Preparation
1. Thoroughlyinspectthe areawheretheequipmentistobe
used.Removeallstones,sticks,wire,andotherforeign
objectswhich couldbetripped overandcause personal
injury.
2 Wearsturdy,rough-soledworkshoesandclosefitting
slacks andshirt.Loosefittingclothesor jewelrycan be
caughtin movableparts. Neveroperatethismachinein bare
feetor sandals.
3. Disengageclutchleversand shift(ifprovided)intoneutral
("N")beforestartingtheengine.
4. Neverleavethismachineunattendedwiththe engine
running.
5. Neverattemptto makeanyadjustmentswhileengineis
running,exceptwherespecificallyrecommendedin the
operator'smanual.
6. To avoidpersonalinjuryor propertydamageuseextreme
carein handlinggasoline.Gasolineis extremelyflammable
andthevaporsareexplosive.Seriouspersonalinjurycan
occurwhengasolineis spilledonyourselforyourclothes
whichcanignite.Washyourskinandchangeclothes
immediately.

Operation

handles.

fromthe machinewhileit is inoperation.Stopthe machineif
anyoneentersthearea.
5. Becarefulwhentillingin hardground.Thetines maycatch
inthe groundandpropelthe tillerforward.Ifthisoccurs,let
go ofthe handlebarsanddo notrestrainthe machine.
6. Exerciseextremecautionwhen operatingonor crossing
gravelsurfaces.Stayalertforhiddenhazardsor traffic.

Before Starting
Gas And Oil Fill°Up
Servicetheenginewithgasolineandoil asinstructedin
theseparateenginemanualpackedwithyourtiller.Read
instructionscarefully.
WARNING:Useextremecarewhen
handling gasoline. Gasoline isex-
tremely flammable andthe vapors are
explosive. Neverfuel machine indoors
or while the engineishot or running.
Starting Engine
WARNING:Besure no one isstanding
infront of the tiller while the engine is
running or beingstarted.
1. Attachsparkplugwiretosparkplug.Makesurethe
metalcapontheendofthesparkplugisfastened
securelyoverthemetaltipon thesparkplug.
2. Makesurethatthefineclutchcontrolisdisengaged.
3. PlacethethrottlecontrolintheFASTposition.
4. Forfirsttimestart=up,firmlypressengineprimerfive
(5) times.Forall futurestarts,pressthree(3) times.
Waitabouttwo secondsbetweeneachpress.
5. Placelefthandongastank.Grasprecoilstarterand
pullropeoutslowlyuntilenginereachesthe beginning
ofitscompressioncycle(ropewillpullslightlyharder
atthispoint).
6. Pullropewitha rapid,continuous,fullarmstroke.
Keepa firmgripon handle.Letroperewindslowly.Do
notletrecoilstartersnapbackagainstengine.Repeat
untilenginestarts.
Stopping Engine
1. MovethrottlecontrollevertoSTOPor OFFposition.
2. Disconnectsparkplugwirefromsparkplugand
groundagainsttheengine.
Using Your Titter
Yourfiller(alsoknownasacultivator)isa precisionbuilt
machinedesignedforseedbed preparation,cultivating,
furrowing,and mulching.It isengineeredtominimize
thehardestworkin thevegetableorflowergarden,totill
thesoilforplantingandcultivating,andtoperformmany
otherusefullaborsavingtasksinthegarden.
WheeR Position
Thetillerisshippedwiththewheelsadiustedsuchthat
theunitsitslevel.Beforefilling,thefrontwheelmustbe
raised.Todothis,pullthewheelbracketassemblydown

Tine Width Adjustment
The tilling widthof the unitis 22 inches. Tilling
width can increaseto 24inches by removing
the clevisand cotter pins, slidingeach outer
tine out one inch,and securing
with thepins. Forcultivation, reducethe tine
width to 13inches by removingthe outer tines
completely,Figure54.

shipfora periodoftwo (2) yearscommencingon thedateoforiginal
purchaseandwill,at itsoption,repairor replace,freeofcharge,any

rantyshallonlyapplyifthisproducthasbeenoperatedand maintained
inaccordancewiththeOperator'sManualfurnishedwiththeproduct,
andhasnotbeensubiecttomisuse,abuse,commercialuse,neglect,
accident,impropermaintenance,alteration,vandalism,theft,fire,water,

adiustments,andnormaldeteriorationoftheexteriorfinishdueto
useor exposure.
d. Servicecompletedbysomeoneotherthanan authorizedservice
dealer.
e. MTDdoesnotextendanywarrantyforproductssoldor exported
outsideoftheUnitedStates,itspossessionsandterritories,except
thosesoldthroughMTD'sauthorizedchannelsofexportdistribution.
f. ReplacementpartsthatarenotgenuineMTDparts.
g. Transportationchargesandservicecalls.
No impliedwarranty, includingany impliedwarranty of mero
chantability of fitness for a particular purpose, applies after the
applicable period of expresswritten warranty aboveasto the
parts asidentified. Noother express warranty, whether written or
oral, exceptas mentioned above,given by anyperson or entity,
including a dealer or retailer, with respect to any product, shall
bind MTD.During the period of the warranty, the exclusive remedy
is repair or replacementof the product as set forth above.
Theprovisions asset forth in this warranty providethe sole and
exclusive remedy arising from the sale. MTDshall not be liable
for incidental or consequential loss or damageincluding, without
limitation, expenses incurred for substitute or replacementlawn
careservices or for rental expensestotemporarily replacea
warranted product.
Somestatesdo notallowtheexclusionorlimitationof incidentalor
consequentialdamages,or limitationsonhowlongan impliedwarranty
