Instrument Panel Cluster – Diesel Engine

Note: The instrument panel cluster is designed to

let you know about many important aspects of your

vehicle’s operation. It is important to read your

Owner Manual and become familiar with the infor-

mation being relayed to you by the lights, gauges

and indicators, as well as what action can be taken

to ensure safety and to prevent damage.

On diesel models, the cruise light acts as a dual-

function display. For the first 10 seconds after

entering the Run mode, it functions as both cruise

and EPR lights. After 10 seconds, it functions as a

cruise light only.

REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY

FEATURES

Remote Keyless Entry (RKE)

Transmitter (if equipped)

(Lock): Press this button once to

lock all the doors. The parking lamps will

flash and the interior lamps will turn on

briefly. Press the button again within five

seconds and the parking lamps will flash

and the horn will chirp briefly to indicate

locking has occurred.

(Unlock): Press this button once to

unlock the driver’s door. The parking

lamps will flash twice and the interior

lamps will turn on. Press the button

again within five seconds to unlock the

remaining doors. The parking lamps will

flash.

(Panic Alarm): Press this button

while the ignition is turned off to activate

the alarm. The horn will sound and both

the interior and exterior lamps will flash

for up to 30 seconds. To stop the alarm,

press the button again, wait for 30 sec-

onds or start the vehicle.

(Cargo Door): Press this button to

unlock the cargo doors only.

If you notice a decrease in the range of

the RKE transmitter, try this:

• Check the distance. You may be too

far from your vehicle, especially

during rainy or snowy weather.

• Check the location. Other vehicles or

objects may be blocking the signal.

• Check to determine whether battery

replacement or resynchronization is

necessary.

Note: The RKE system will not operate

if the hood is open or if the key is in the

ignition.

RKE Resynchronization

For added security, the RKE transmitter

does not send the same signal twice to

the vehicle. This prevents anyone from

recording and playing back the signal to

gain entry into the vehicle.

If your RKE transmitter is not operating

properly, resynchronization may be

necessary. To resynchronize the system,

stand close to your vehicle, and then

press and hold the Lock and Unlock

buttons on the RKE transmitter at the

same time for seven seconds. The

door locks should cycle to confirm

resynchronization has occurred.

RKE Transmitter Battery

Replacement

Under normal use, the battery in your

Remote Keyless Entry transmitter

should last about four years. If you have

to get close to your vehicle before the

transmitter works, it’s probably time to

change the battery.

Automatic Volume (if equipped)

With Automatic Volume, the audio sys-

tem will adjust to compensate for road

and wind noise as you drive, increasing

the volume as vehicle speed increases.

Each higher setting will automatically

provide more volume compensation.

AUTO VOL (Automatic Volume): Set

the volume at the desired level; then

press this button to select Low, Medium

or High. AUTO VOL

will appear on the

display.

To Replace the Battery:

1. Use a flat, thin object to open the

transmitter.

2. Remove and replace the battery.

Make sure the positive side of the

new battery faces down.

3. Snap the transmitter back together.

4. Resynchronize the transmitter.

See Section 2 of your Owner Manual.

Note: Use care not to touch any of the

transmitter circuitry. Static from your

body transferred to these surfaces may

damage the transmitter.

AUDIO SYSTEM FEATURES

(if equipped)

To turn off Automatic Volume, press the

AUTO VOL button until AUTO VOL OFF

appears on the display.

See Section 3 of your Owner Manual.

Seek and Scan Controls

Press the right or left arrow to seek

the next or previous station and stay

there.

To scan radio stations (playing the

station for a few seconds and then going

to the next station), press and hold

either arrow for two seconds until you

hear a beep. Press either arrow again

to stop scanning.

To scan preset stations, press and hold

either arrow for four seconds until you

hear two beeps. Press either arrow

again to stop scanning.

Playing a Cassette or CD (if equipped)

When playing a cassette or CD, press

the right or left arrow to go to the

next or previous track.

Press and hold the right or left arrow to

continue moving forward or backward

through the tape or the tracks on the CD.

The six-disc CD player (if equipped) also

enables you to scan each loaded CD.

Press and hold the right or left arrow

for more than two seconds to scan each

track on the CD. Press and hold the

right or left arrow for more than four

seconds to scan the first track of each

loaded CD.

Note: The radio will only seek and scan

stations with a strong signal.

Audio Adjustments

Setting the Tone

To adjust the bass and treble (and

midrange on the six-disc CD system),

press the Audio button or knob (depend-

ing on your audio system) until BASS or

TREB (or MID) is displayed. Press and

hold the up or down arrow or turn the

knob to increase or decrease.

Adjusting the Speakers

To adjust the balance between the right

and left speakers or the fade between

the front and rear speakers, press the

Audio button or knob (depending on

your audio system) until BAL or FADE

is displayed. Press and hold the up or

down arrow or turn the knob to move

the sound right or left and front or rear.

Centering the Tone and Speakers

To adjust both tone and speaker controls

to the center position, exit the Audio

mode and then press and hold the

Audio button or knob for more than two

seconds. A beep will sound and CEN

or ALL CENTERED will be displayed,

indicating bass, treble, balance and

fade have been centered.

Radio Data System

The Radio Data System (RDS) has the

capability to:

• Seek only stations broadcasting

selected types of programs

• Receive announcements concerning

local and national emergencies

• Display messages from radio stations

RDS features are available only on

FM stations that broadcast RDS signals.

These features will work only when the

RDS information is available. RDS

stations may provide the time of day,

a program type (PTY) for current

programming and the name of the

program being broadcast.

CONVENIENCE FEATURES

Manual Front Seat Adjustment

To Move the Seats Forward or

Rearward: Lift and hold the bar located

under the front of each seat. Slide the

seat to the desired position and release

the bar. Try to move the seat with your

body to ensure it is locked in place.

See Section 1 of your Owner Manual.

Note: CDs with any affixed labels may

jam in the CD player. Label a CD using

a permanent marker. If more than one

CD is inserted into the slot at one time,

or if scratched or damaged CDs are

played, the CD player could be

damaged. When using the CD player,

use only CDs in good condition without

labels; load one CD at a time; and keep

the CD player and the loading slot free

of foreign materials, liquids or debris.

Reclining Front Seatbacks

To Adjust the Seatbacks: Lift the lever

located on the inboard side of each front

seat. Move the seatback with your body

to the desired position and release the

lever. Try to move the seatback with

your body to ensure it is locked in place.

See Section 1 of your Owner Manual.

Trip Odometer

The trip odometer can tell you how far

your vehicle has been driven since the

trip odometer was last set to zero.

To Toggle between the Trip Odometer

and the Regular Odometer:

Momentarily press the Reset button

located on the instrument panel cluster

next to the trip odometer display. Do not

hold the Reset button.

To Reset the Trip Odometer: Press

and hold the Reset button for one sec-

ond while the trip odometer is displayed.

You can also display the odometer read-

ing with the ignition off by pressing the

Reset button.

Power Front Seat Adjustment

The power front seat can be adjusted

while seated, using the controls located

at the front center of the seat cushion.

To Raise or Lower the Seat: Move the

center knob up or down.

To Move the Seat Forward or

Rearward: Move the center knob

toward the left or right.

To Raise or Lower the Front of the

Seat Cushion: Move the right lever up

or down.

To Raise or Lower the Rear of the

Seat Cushion: Move the left lever up

or down.

PASSlock

System

Your vehicle is equipped with the

PASSlock

theft-deterrent system, which

is a passive theft-deterrent system that

enables fuel to the engine if the ignition

lock cylinder is turned with a valid key. If

a correct key is not used or the ignition

lock cylinder is tampered with, fuel is

disabled.

During normal operation, the SECURITY

light will go off approximately five sec-

onds after the key is turned to Run.

If the engine stalls and the SECURITY

light flashes, the PASSlock system has

entered a tamper mode. Wait until the

light stops flashing before trying to

restart the engine.

If the SECURITY light comes on while

driving and stays on, there may be a

problem with the PASSlock system. You

will be able to restart the engine if you

turn the engine off; however, your vehi-

cle may not be protected by PASSlock

and you should see your GM dealer.

Door Locks

Lockout Protection

This feature protects you from locking

the vehicle with the key in the ignition.

If the power door lock switch is pressed

when either the driver’s, passenger’s

or rear doors are open, all of the doors

will lock and then the driver’s door will

unlock. This feature does not include the

side cargo door.

Cargo Door Relocking

This feature secures the side cargo

door after unloading cargo. If the side

cargo door is open when the Lock button

on the power door lock switch or the

Remote Keyless Entry transmitter is

pressed, all doors will lock and then

relock after the side cargo door is

closed. The side cargo door must be

closed within several minutes for the

relock to occur.

Rear Door Security Locks

(if equipped)

Security locks can be engaged on the

passenger-side rear door, the side slid-

ing door and the driver-side and passen-

ger-side 60/40 swing-out side doors so

that passengers can’t open the doors

from the inside.

To engage the security locks, move the

lever on the door to the (Lock) posi-

tion. Move it to the (Unlock) position

to return the doors to normal operation.

Exterior Lamp Control Switch

The exterior lamp control switch, used to

operate the exterior lamps, is located on

the left side of the instrument panel. The

switch can be rotated to each of the

following four positions:

(Defeat): Turns off the Daytime

Running Lamps.

(Daytime Running Lamps): Turns

on the parking lamps and the instrument

panel lights only.

(Parking Lamps): Turns on the

parking lamps, taillamps, instrument

panel lights and license plate lamps. If

active, the Daytime Running Lamps will

turn off.

(Headlamps): Turns on the head-

lamps and parking lamps. If active, the

Daytime Running Lamps will turn off.

• To switch the headlamps from low

beam to high beam, pull the turn

signal/multifunction lever toward

you until it clicks and release it.

Exterior Lamps

• To use the flash-to-pass feature

(which momentarily turns on the high-

beam headlamps, even if the head-

lamps are off), pull the turn signal/

multifunction lever slightly toward

you, but not so far that it clicks.

Release the lever to turn off the

high-beam headlamps.

Daytime Running Lamps

Daytime Running Lamps (DRLs) can

make it easier for others to see the front

of your vehicle during the day. When the

DRLs are on, only the parking lamps

and instrument panel lights will be on.

The DRL system will come on when the

ignition is on, the vehicle is shifted out

of Park and the exterior lamp control

switch is in the (DRL) position.

To Turn Off the DRLs: Turn the exterior

lamp control switch to the (Defeat)

position.

Reading Lamps: Press the button next

to each lamp to turn it on or off.

See Section 3 of your Owner Manual.

Cruise Control

The cruise control functions are located

on the turn signal/multifunction lever.

(Off): This position turns off the

system.

(On): This position turns on the

system.

(Resume/Accelerate): Push the lever

to this position to resume the set speed

or to increase the set speed.

(Set): Press this button at the end

of the turn signal/multifunction lever to set

the speed or to decrease the set speed.

When the cruise control is active, the

CRUISE light in the instrument cluster

will illuminate.

Interior Lamps

Instrument Panel Brightness

The instrument panel brightness control

knob ( ) is located next to the exterior

lamps control switch on the left side of

the instrument panel.

Press and release to extend the knob;

then turn it to adjust instrument panel

brightness.

Turn the knob clockwise all the way to

turn on the interior lamps.

Dome Lamps

Entry Lighting: When a door is opened,

the dome lamps will come on. When the

door is closed, the lamps will remain on

for 15 seconds or until the vehicle is

started.

Exit Lighting: When the key is removed

from the ignition, the dome lamps will

come on for 40 seconds.

Dome Lamp Override: To turn off the

automatic operation of the dome lamps,

press this button ( ) located below the

exterior lamp control switch. Press it

again to return the lamps to automatic

operation.

Note: The Dome Lamp Override button

will not override the entry lighting fea-

ture if the Remote Keyless Entry trans-

mitter is used to unlock the vehicle.

(Mist): For a single wipe, twist the

band down to this position and release.

For additional wipes, hold the band at

this position.

(Off): Twist the band to this position

to turn off the wipers.

Delay: Twist the band up to set the

delay time between wipes (the top of the

band equals a shorter delay).

(Low): Twist the band up to this

position for steady wiping at low speed.

(High): Twist the band up to this

position for rapid wiping at high speed.

Windshield Washer

(Washer): To spray washer fluid,

turn the paddle at the top of the turn sig-

nal/multifunction lever toward the wind-

shield and release. There will be a slight

delay before the wipers are activated.

This is normal and allows the washer to

clean the entire windshield.

Setting Cruise Control

1. Move the lever to .

2. Accelerate to your cruising speed.

3. Press the button and release it.

4. Remove your foot from the accelera-

tor pedal.

5. The CRUISE light will illuminate.

Adjusting/Canceling Cruise Control

To Resume the Set Speed after

Braking: Move the lever to the

position.

To Increase the Set Speed: Move or

hold the lever to the

position, or use

the accelerator pedal to get to a higher

speed and push the button.

To Decrease the Set Speed: Push or

hold .

To Deactivate the Set Speed: Press the

brake pedal. The system will remain on.

To Turn Off Cruise Control: Move the

lever to .

Windshield Wipers

The windshield wiper functions are locat-

ed on the turn signal/multifunction lever.

Temperature Control: Turn the right

knob to increase or decrease the

temperature for the rear-seating area.

The air conditioning system on the main

climate control panel must be turned on

to direct cooled air to the rear-seating

area; otherwise, the rear of the vehicle

will remain at cabin temperature.

The front swing-out side door has a

check strap in the doorframe to keep the

door from opening beyond 90 degrees.

To Open the Door Beyond 90

Degrees:

1. Close the door partially.

2. Pull the check strap toward you.

3. Open the door.

Use care not to overextend the door

when the check strap is not engaged.

When the door is closed, the check

strap will automatically re-engage.

Rear Climate Control

(if equipped)

60/40 Swing-Out Side Door

(if equipped)

The rear heating and air conditioning

system works with the main climate

control system and regulates the

temperature, fan speed and air delivery

for the rear-seat passengers.

Using the front control panel, the driver

can operate the rear climate control,

adjusting the fan speed, airflow and

temperature setting.

Turn the front fan knob to the Rear

Control position to allow rear-seat pas-

sengers to use the rear control panel.

This disables the front control panel.

Control Panel Operation

(Fan): Turn the left knob to LO, MED

or HI to increase or decrease the fan

speed in the rear-seating area. Turn the

knob to OFF to turn off the fan.

(Vent): Turn the center knob to this

mode to direct most of the air to the

upper outlets.

(Floor): Turn the center knob to this

mode to direct most of the air to the

floor outlets.

Turn the knob to any position between

these two modes to blend the airflow.

PERFORMANCE FEATURES

StabiliTrak

– Stability Control

System

StabiliTrak

is an advanced computer-

controlled vehicle stability enhancement

system that automatically uses the func-

tions of the antilock brakes, traction con-

trol and stability control to help you keep

the vehicle continuing in the same direc-

tion that the steering wheel is pointed.

When activated, the system may reduce

engine power to the wheels and apply

braking to individual wheels as neces-

sary to help you maintain directional

control of the vehicle.

When you first start your vehicle and

begin driving, you may hear or feel the

system going through several diagnostic

3. Install the pin marked “R” on the pas-

senger’s side and the pin marked “L”

on the driver’s side.

4. Push the pins down into the retaining

clips. Check that the pins are locked

in place.

5. Connect each shoulder belt by insert-

ing the latch plate into the buckle

attached at each outboard position of

the bench seat.

Rear-Seat Removal and

Installation

To Remove the Rear Seats:

1. Disconnect each shoulder belt on the

bench seat by pressing the tip of a

key into the release hole of the safety

belt buckle while pulling up on the

safety belt.

2. Locate the two locking pins on the

inboard sides of the seat floor latch.

If there are floormats, the pins are

under a flap cut into the mat. The

driver-side pin has a gray handle

marked with an “L.” The passenger-

side pin has a black handle marked

with an “R.”

3. Pull each pin handle up to disengage

the pins. Pull out the pins.

4. Pull the seat rearward about two inch-

es and lift the seat from the floor rails.

5. Remove the seat.

To Install the Rear Seats:

1. Position the seat into the open slots in

the floor rails and push the seat for-

ward, hooking the seat onto the rails.

2. Install the locking pins into the seat

base on the inboard sides of the seat

floor latch. Move the seat to line up

with the pins in the seat base.

Oil Life System

The Oil Life System calculates engine oil

life based on vehicle use and illuminates

the (Change Engine Oil) light when

it’s necessary to change your engine oil

and filter. This is based on engine

operation and driving conditions, not

mileage. The Oil Life System should be

reset to 100% only following an oil

change.

To Reset the Oil Life System:

1. Turn the ignition key to Run with the

engine off.

2. Fully press and release the accelera-

tor pedal slowly three times within

five seconds.

If the Change Engine Oil light flashes

for five seconds, the system is reset.

4. Turn the key to Lock.

checks. You may also feel a reduction in

acceleration or hear a noise or vibration

while the system is active. This is normal.

StabiliTrak Button

Parts of the StabiliTrak system can be

turned off at vehicle speeds below 20

mph. The system automatically will turn

back on when vehicle speed exceeds 20

mph. It is recommended to leave the

system on at all times for normal driving.

It may be necessary to turn off the sys-

tem if the vehicle is stuck in sand, mud

or snow.

To disable the system, press and hold

the (StabiliTrak) button, located on

the instrument panel, for more than five

seconds. The STABILITRAK NOT

READY light will illuminate and three

chimes will sound. Press the button

again to turn the system back on.

The Duramax Diesel engine is equipped

with a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF)

that will filter or trap particulates (solid

particles in the exhaust exhibited as

black smoke) before they can be emit-

ted into the atmosphere. The DPF will

occasionally need to be cleaned of

accumulated solids. During a cleaning,

the exhaust gas temperature is warmed

so that the accumulated particulate mat-

ter in the DPF will be safely converted to

harmless gases. This feature has been

designed to operate automatically, with

limited driver involvement.

For effective DPF cleaning, the vehicle

will need to operate continuously for

approximately 20 minutes and at speeds

greater than 30 mph. If the vehicle is

returned to idle during the cleaning

process, the driver may notice a slightly

different sound or a slightly elevated

engine idle speed. This is normal.

If the vehicle is not being operated in a

manner to allow effective automatic DPF

cleaning, the CLN EXH FILTER warning

lamp will illuminate.
