hot air gas-red air heaters
In support of engineering, installation, servicing, and maintenance 52.10.03.2017.eng
Introduction
The AlfaTOP premium series is making use of the burners with continuously con-
trolled capacity, based on the heat e ciency measurements. This system of burner
capacity smooth control implies considerably lower gas consumption. The AlfaTOP
series is advantageous for optimum air temperature at the unit outlet. Capacity con-
trol of Lersen Flexi Drive provides an optimum temperature gradient with steady
comfortable temperature at the unit outlet, without any overheated air ow. As
such, the AlfaTOP units preclude substantially any hot air strati cation across the
hall cross-section and increase the economic bene ts as against the systems esta-
blished as a standard. Obviously, the TOP premium brand is making use of the best
material series. The units to be installed horizontally include a comfortable remote
control, which provides necessary control functions from the service height.

This Manual forms a part of the product and cannot be used independently. Read
it carefully as it contains vital information on installation, usage, and maintenance
of the heater units. Keep these Instructions for future references.
Should the equipment be sold or transferred onto another user, see to it that
these Instructions are always handed over along with the equipment for their use by
the new owner. The manufacturer or importer renounces responsibility for the da-
mages caused by unskilled installation, usage, and maintenance, damages caused
by unauthorized personnel and contrary to standards and regulations. Your product
is covered by the warranty for the duration and upon the conditions as speci ed in
the manufacturer/importer-issued Warranty Note.
Startup of the assembly may only be carried out by an authorized LERSEN service
centre. Installation must be carried out in accordance with the applicable standards
and pursuant to the manufacturer’s instructions contained herein, solely by skilled
personnel. Incorrect installation or use may result in material damages or personnel
injuries. Should it be the case, the representative or manufacturer renounces any re-
sponsibility. This equipment must solely be used for the purpose for which it has
been made.
Any other use is hazardous. Only an authorized LERSEN service centre may carry
out startup of the unit, including the change should a di erent gas be used. Check
the local fuel distribution conditions, overpressure, and system setup for their com-
patibility before installation. The equipment must not be started up where the tem-
perature dropped below 5°C (it is good idea to permanently keep the space at a mo-
derate temperature).
Any transportation-attributable damage shall solely be settled from the hauler’s
insurance. The hauler is expected to acknowledge such damage.
The user is obliged to observe the standards on using the gas- red appliances,
mainly then ČSN EN 416-1, ČSN EN 13410, ČSN 06 1510, ČSN 73 4210, NV 178/2001
Coll., incl. their amendments, ČÚBP Ordinance “On Gas- red Equipment Inspections,
Overhauls, and Testing that also stipulate the equipment safety conditions“.
The User is obliged to ensure, at least once a year, inspection and maintenance of
the has- red equipment by a Lersen brand workshop or by a certi ed maintenance
engineer. If the User fails to do so, the warranty becomes inapplicable and da-
mages, if any caused in service, may not be claimed.
If the equipment remains unused for more than 3 month, end branch of the
gas line must be deaerated.
Non-stop running for not less than 30 minutes should be provided during the
very operation of the Lersen gas- red equipment. You will thus exclude excessive
amounts of condensate that would otherwise be generated at the beginning of ope-
ration due to insu cient exchanger saturation with heat and ue extraction. It
is advisable to use a condensate trap at the beginning of the ue duct. The trap
must regularly be checked or continuous condensate drainage must be ensu-
red.
Should there be any modi cations done on the main or secondary gas line or the
gas pressure changed in the gas line to which the Lersen gas- red appliances are co-
nnected, it is absolutely necessary to shut down such appliances and carry out re-co-
mmissioning. Otherwise the manufacturer renounces all responsibility for any da-
mages or harm to health.

Installation Rules
The Alfa units must be installed in compliance with the applicable standards
and regulations. Design engineer, installer, and User are responsible for proper and
safe installation.
The Alfa units must not be run:
in aggressive atmospheres
in strong electromagnetic elds
in heavily dusty or humid environments
in environments with explosion hazard
Should the unit have to be installed in a non-permissible environment as above,
every individual installation is subject to assessment by the relevant authorities in
accordance with the applicable regulations.
Installation of the equipment must be carried out by a quali ed sta member,
competent to do the work, according to the manufacturers instructions and appli-
cable standards (ČSN 06 1008, ČSN EN 416-1, ČSN 33 2000, ČSN 38 6420, TPG 704
01).
Commissioning, maintenance, repairs, and technical care may only be carried
out through an authorized LERSEN Service Centre.
Manufacturer renounces responsibility for damage due to unskilled installation.
a) For the conditions upon which the units can be connected to the gas system
and power supply see the “Gas/Electro Connections” (page 23).
b) Type and installation of the ue duct must comply with the ČSN 734201 stan-
dard. The combustion air ow rates must comply with TPG 704 01.
For the ue duct type installations see the “Extraction Systems: Type Examples”
(page 20).
c) Installation must be carried out in respect of the adequate safe space for ma-
king adjustments and technical care.
d) The ČSN 06 1008 standard must be respected whenever the safe distance of
the Alfa- TOP/ECO units and their ue ducts from the building material surfaces is
to be determined.
e) Always make a careful inspection once the installation is completed. Run the
system for at least one cycle time in order to nd out that the system works as in-
tended, mainly in respect of the limit control function. Recommendation is to en-
trust the heater commissioning solely to a skilled expert personnel. The hot air he-
aters require an expert technical care without which a reliable operation, fuel
savings, and everlasting high e ciency can hardly be achieved. If it becomes nece-
ssary to change over to operation/ventilation, our recommendation is to use the re-
mote control with the heating/ventilation selector switch, code DOAL000001.

of all Client’s obligations to Lersen CZ, s.r.o. Should these obligations not be
settled, the performances ordered with Lersen CZ, s.r.o. shall be suspended until
settlement of all the Client’s liabilities.
If the maintenance engineer nd out at the location of his response that
the conditions for the maintenance response are not satised, the equipment/
building structure is not prepared, or the equipment is inaccessible for making
the maintenance task, the Client having ordered the maintenance response shall
be invoiced for vain response. Its price shall consist of a xed payment, traveling
expenses for the distance over 100 km, and the rate for every tackled hour of the
maintenance engineer’s work.
FlexiDrive is proprietorship system able to modulate the Lersen units’ capacity.
In principle, this system senses and evaluates the ue temperature, regulating
accordingly the capacity of the equipment so that the combustion process e cien-
cy is always at its highest level and gas consumption at its lowest level.
The ue temperature is a very precise and quick indication of the building’s heat
demand levels. If the building is unheated and heat demand high, the ue tempe-
rature level is below its set point. With increasing e ect of heating in the interior,
when a warmer air passes through the exchanger, temperature of the ue at the
exchange output is also growing. FlexiDrive will respond by reducing the units in-
put.
Along with growing air temperature in the room even the Δt of the air being he-
ated should conveniently fall to preclude any adverse strati cation phenomenon,
i.e. hot air accumulation under the ceiling.
By reducing the sets capacity while keeping the air ow rate through the ex-
changer at ever constant level FlexiDrive will reduce the Δt value to preclude thus
any air strati cation in the interior.
Flue temperature
Depending on length and type of the fume extraction system the ue tempera-
ture should range between 170°C and 220°C.
The following applies here:
a) if the fume extraction system is shorter or equipped with the condensate re-
moving system, the ue temperature may get close to 170°C.
b) if the fume extraction system is longer, but not equipped with any condensa-
te removing system, a higher temperature should be set.
It broadly applies that higher equipment e ciency levels and lower gas con-
sumption levels will be achieved at lower ue temperatures and vice versa
LERSEN FlexiDrive Modulation
Large amounts of smoke arise during the commissioning, coming from the com-
bustion chamber, exchanger, or radiation tubes while being red, activating po-
tentially the re protection sensors.

Method of Use
Only properly skilled personnel may install the unit in compliance with the
applicable regulations and decrees; wrong installation could cause people or
animal injury or damage to property for which the manufacturer cannot be
responsible. See “Gas/Electro Connections” (page 24-26).
The fuel supply inlet piping should thoroughly be cleaned and any foreign
material that might cause damage to the unit removed before connection of this
hot air unit. In the event of disrespect the manufacturer renounces responsibility
for any damage or injuries. Warranty claims are excluded in this case.
Consider carefully the schedule of hot air units’ locations and capacities, based
on the space you want to heat or ventilate. For a pertinent example see Fig. 1.
It is moreover necessary to satisfy the minimum installation parameters – see
Fig. 2. A clear space has to be allowed for on the side, making the burner and
exchanger accessible.
It is recommendable to use the WINDMAX secondary cowl aps that will
extend the air ow reach where the installation height is more than 3 m.

Appliances rated for over 7 kW
10.3.1 For the appliances rated over 7 kW the ue extraction through the fa-
çade wall, led out into open space, can only be selected in the following situations,
provided that the solution is justi able in technical terms:
a) an industrial complex, an appliance rated not over
40 kW, given the compliance with the conditions under 10.3.2, 10.3.5 and 10.3.7.
No windows may be above the outlet duct opening.
b) within reconstruction of residential houses and in case of family houses whe-
re it is impossible to extract the ue via a chimney open above the building roof;
the appliances rated up to 14 kW, given the compliance with the conditions under
10.3.2 thru 10.3.9.
10.3.2 NO2 a CO air pollution limits must be satis ed at the windows of resi-
dential rooms and the rooms where the people hang out, near the ue exhaust out-
let on adjoining and opposite façade if the ue is exhausted into open space throu-
gh a façade wall.10) The least distances to adjoining or opposite residential or
family houses are identical with those under 10.3.8.
10.3.3 Installation of the appliances as under 10.1.1 must be without prejudi-
ce to the requirements of other Acts and regulations (such as Building Act and rela-
ted Ordinances, Building Protection Regulations, Anti-explosion Safety Regulati-
ons, etc.).
10.3.4 Appliance of the type C with their ue led out into open space throu-
gh a façade wall, if not equipped with any ue fan or burner with forced air intake,
must not have their thermal capacity in excess of 7 kW.
10.3.5 Flue outlet opening must always be behind the fade wall (outer sur-
face of a perimeter wall). Extension of the outlet duct may only be carried out sub-
ject to the appliance manufacturers consent. The duct opening must not be under
any balcony or under the roof overhang.
10.3.6 No in ammable material may be on the fade less than 0.5 m from
the opening horizontally and vertically and less than 1.5 m from it above the ope-
ning.
10.3.7 Height of the opening on residential houses must not be less than 4 m
above ground.
10.3.8 In case of industrial complexes, the distance between the ue outlet
duct opening and neighbouring or opposite industrial buildings must be at least 10
m, and/or 15 m where the building has windows.
10.3.9 Every installation of an appliance must be accompanied in the design
documents by a schematic diagram of the opening. Zone of protection must be de-
lineated in the documents. This schematic diagram must give a clear image of rela-
tionship with other ue exhaust openings, windows, doors, additional openings,
etc. The documentation must include description, illustration or evidence or the re-
lationship with adjacent or opposite buildings.
10.3.10 For admissible distances from openings and the protective zones deli-
neating method see Annex B (to the Standard).
10) Act No. 86/2002 Coll.
Flue Extraction for Capacities
Over 7 kW
Flue Extraction/Air Inlet
Fuel Extraction System:
Installation
Combustion air requirements
AlfaTOP/ECO hot air units must be installed in the adequately ventilated spaces
pursuant to the applicable regulations, so that a good combustion is achieved. If
the combustion air supply is not adequate or the air is polluted, the combustion
process becomes ine cient and the unit may su er damage. Necessity of adequa-
te air supply applies to all the fuel- red equipment, including those with forced
u e e x t r a c t i o n . L a c k o f c o m b u s t i o n a i r w i l l b r i n g a b o u t e v o l v e m e n t o f c a r b o n o x i -
des, which may be toxic.
All the joints on the air feeding and ue extracting ducts must be sealed with a
suitable sealant, so that any spurious combustion air intake and ue leaks beyond
their proper destinations could be avoided.
Where a unit is installed on the pivoted bracket, the air suction and ue extrac-
tion systems must be connected via a suitable exible hose.
Should a thrust ue extraction system be used, it must be connected to the ro-
oftop ue extraction duct.
To avoid the condensate in ltration back into the unit it is a good idea to have,
against its freezing up, a condensation trap installed during the winter season. Ma-
nufacturer renounces responsibility for the damage caused like this should the con-
densation trap not be installed.
Always make sure that the ue extraction and air intake stacks are tted with a
protective grillage not allowing the birds to get in. For the ue extraction system
components see the “Suction & Extraction Itemson pages 21-22 hereof. Or con-
tact LERSEN.
The ue extraction systems must be installed in compliance with applicable
standards and regulations. Installation conditions applicable to the ALFA hot air
units hereof must also be met.
• Type and installation of the ue duct must respect
ČSN 73 4201 and TPG G 800 01.
• Flue duct must be freely terminated in an uncovered position, so that the ue
does not need to overcome any resistance on its way out and that the ue may not
enter back into the building through windows.
• As designed, the ue duct should minimize condensate accumulation, being of
the design that precludes any condensate comeback into the gas- red appliance.
