Getting Started Guide
Syncro® CS 9361-8i and Syncro CS 9380-8e
Controllers
Before you install your Syncro® CS 9361-8i or Syncro CS 9380-8e controllers, take a few
minutes to read this getting started guide. This guide describes how to install your
Syncro CS controllers and SAS drives, configure shared storage and drive groups, install
drivers, and use the management utilities. Also, this guide directs you to the
documentation and drivers available on the LSI website.
The Syncro CS solution supports two controllers (of the same model) that are installed
in separate servers. Each controller uses a CacheVault® Flash Module (CVFM) and a
CacheVault Power Module (CVPM) to protect and back up cached data in case of host
power loss or server failure.
The CVFM04 module is pre-installed on your controllers. Connect the CVPM02 module
to the clip on the remote mount board. Connect the CVFM04 module by cable to the
CVPM02 module. Next, install the controller and the remote mount board in available
PCI Express® (PCIe®) slots on the motherboard. Perform these steps for both controllers.

Step 3: Configuring Shared Storage
CAUTION: Electrostatic discharge (ESD) can damage the Syncro CS card and the
CacheVault modules. Make sure that you install the card and module at an ESD-safe
workstation that meets the requirements of EIA-625 – “Requirements For Handling
Electrostatic Discharge Sensitive Devices.” When you install the card and module, follow
the ESD-recommended practices in the latest revision of IPC-A-610.
Install the Syncro CS
controller assemblies.
This figure shows the
installation of the Syncro CS
9361-8i controller as an
example. You can install the
Syncro CS 9380-8e controller
in the same way.
NOTE: Some PCIe slots support only
PCIe graphics cards. RAID
controllers installed in these PCIe
slots do not function.
