VideoImpression 1.5 A Sample Project
In this tutorial, we’ll walk though creating a sample movie file. Remember that there is also a quick-start
tutorial and overview in the program’s Help file.
1. To begin, click on the New icon.
You will appear on the Album
screen. Some sample albums
will be available, but let’s create
our own. From the album drop-
down, select “New.” A blank,
untitled album will appear.
2. Click on the Get icon. An Open window will appear, allowing you to browse your system to select
the still image and movie files that you’d like to add to your album. You can add multiple files at once
by holding down the Ctrl key on your keyboard and single-clicking the files that you want. Also, you
can name your album by clicking over its current title and typing in a new name.
3. As you can tell from the above images, we’ve added one still image file (JPG), one movie file (AVI)
and one audio file (WAV). What we’ll do is combine them to form one movie file, with a soundtrack.
You can run two audio files simultaneously (in our example, we’ll only use one). Below is a diagram
of the Storyboard. The Storyboard is the frame for your project; in it you’ll place all the components
that you want to create your movie or presentation. Add to your Storyboard by clicking and dragging
a thumbnail from an album to the board. Alternately, click on the thumbnail you’d like to add, and
then click on the Add to Storyboard icon. Here, we’ve added all of the files.
4. You can add Transitions between components on the Storyboard. Transition effects an vary from
“wipe” and “dissolve” effects to special effects, such as “fire” and “magic mirror.” To add a
Transition:
1. Click on Edit Movie.
Alternately, you can double-click on a Transition icon on the
Storyboard.
2. Click on Effect.
3. You’ll be taken to the Transitions screen. From here, you can add Transitions by clicking on the
Add to Storyboard icon after selecting the desired Transition. Alternately, you can click and
drag a Transition to the Storyboard.
4. After you’ve finished adding your Transitions, you can go back to the Album screen by clicking
on the Edit Movie icon.
5. Text and text effects can be added to your presentation. From the Album screen, click on the
Storyboard component (image or movie file) that you want to add text to. After it’s highlighted, click
on the Edit Movie icon. From here, you can adjust the brightness/contrast of the image, and add
Transitions and Text (which is what we want). Click on the Text icon.
6. Below, the various text options are diagrammed. Click on the Play button to preview your text effect.
After you’ve added your text and effect (if applicable), you can do a variety of things. You can go back
to the Album screen, you can go to the Transitions screen, or you can play your movie (click on the
Play Movie icon).
Let’s take a look at our Storyboard now:
* Remember that you can drag and drop components of your Storyboard (i.e. swap image positions,
change Transition locations, etc.).
7. When you’re ready to save or play your completed project, click on the Play Movie icon. From here,
you’ll have playback and save options available. You can also email your project if you have a MAPI-
compliant mail program.
