About this software
The Vodafone Connect Card Utility for VC701SI is a software for use with a Pocket PC
running Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 Software for Pocket PC (Pocket PC2003).
System Requirements
The Vodafone Connect Card Utility for VC701SI requires a Pocket PC running Pocket
PC2003 with a Compact Flash Type II or PCMCIA Type II slot.

Introduction
Precautions about the Software
Please read the VC701SI Users Guide before using the Vodafone Connect Card Utility
for VC701SI.
TheVC701SI might not operate correctly when the battery of the Pocket PC falls below
a certain level. Check the battery level of your Pocket PC and charge if needed to
operate the VC701SI stably.
Do not remove the VC701SI from the Pocket PC while it is in use (the LED is on).
Disconnect any connections before powering OFF the Pocket PC.
The VC701SI may become warm in use, but this is not a malfunction. Please hold sides
of the VC701SI to remove it.
Please read the manual of the USIM card for details about the USIM card, PIN, and PIN
unlock code.
Please read the manual of your Pocket PC for details about how to use the Pocket PC
and installed applications.

The VC701SI cannot dial up a connection with the USIM card set to [Validate PIN
authentication]. Set the [Validate PIN authentication] off.by using the Vodafone Connect
Card Utility for VC701SI.
Transferred data volumes and Total charges are the values assuming that you are using "Vodafone
(Packet)" Access Internet as the connection. If you are using any other connection, those values may
not be accurate.
Transferred date volumes and Total charges are the values estimated and may not be actual values.
Connecting with the VC701SI while performing an Active Sync may affect the Transferred data
volumes and the Total charges.
Function Description
Startup
PIN authentication
If the USIM card is set to [Validate PIN authentication] , a dialog box
prompting PIN input will appear when you start the Vodafone Connect
Card Utility for VC701SI.
Main Window
Card phone number Display the phone number of the USIM card.
Card status Display icons signifying the signal strength and the card status.
Transferred data volume
Display the sum of sent and received bytes since the last reset.
Total charges
Display the estimated total charges since the last reset.
Reset history
Reset the transferred data volume and total charges. Stores the date and
time of the last reset.
Connect
Dial up (Connect to the
Access Point)
Dial up the selected Access Point and quits the Vodafone Connect Card
Utility for VC701SI.
Create/Edit/Delete
connections
Allow you to create, edit or delete a dial up connections.
Access Internet (Packet communication and 64k Digital communication)
has been configured as the default connections.
Settings
Change card settings
Allow you to configure the settings of VC701SI, such as: LED on/off,
enable/disable packet filtering, and create/edit/delete APN settings.
Change security settings
Allow you to configure the security settings of the VC701SI, such as:
validate PIN authentication and change PIN.
Tools
Show history
Display the connection history data which includes the transferred data
volumes and the total charges for the last fifty records ( see page 25).
History Settings
Allow you to set to show the charge information, unit price for Packet
Communication and to clear all history data.
Help
Software version
Display the current version of the Vodafone Connect Card Utility for
VC701SI.

Display the customer support information of the Vodafone Connect Card
VC701SI.
1.Functions Overview
Functions
Vodafone offers a direct connection to the Internet called Access Internet, which
eliminates the need to have an account of other independent ISPs. Vodafone's Access
Internet service is charged at a special rate.
Following setup information for the connection to Access Internet will be configured.

You can activate the service by simply starting up the Vodafone Connect Card Utility for
VC701SI once after installing it. "Vodafone (Packet)" is set as the default connection at
the initial startup of the application.
NOTE: It is also set as the default if you tap [Load default] in the Connections window.

Close all applications before installing or uninstalling the software.
Uninstall first before reinstalling the software.
By installing this software you agree with the End Users License Agreement
(EULA), which is displayed during the installation procedure. Please read the
EULA carefully when installing the software.
Using Active Sync

Step
Prepare the installer: VodafoneConnect.PPC_E_ARM.CAB.
Click the [Explorer] button on Microsoft ActiveSync on your PC to start the Explorer.
Navigate to the [My PocketPC] -> [Temp] folder in explorer and copy the installer to the Temp
folder.
Go to [Start] -> [Programs] -> [File Explorer] on your Pocket PC.
Open the [My Device] -> [Temp] folder in File Explorer.
Tap the installer file to start the installation.
If the attribute on the installer file is not set to "Read Only", the installer file will automatically be
deleted after the installation.
Using a Memory Card

Step
Copy the installer file [VodafoneConnect.PPC_E_ARM.CAB] onto an SD or CF memory card.
Insert the memory card into your Pocket PC.
Go to [Start] -> [Programs] -> [File Explorer] on your Pocket PC.
Open the [My Device] -> [
] folder in File Explorer.
Tap the installer file to start the installation.
[SD Card] will appear in File Explorer if you are using an SD memory card, or [CF Card] will appear if
you are using a CF memory card.
If the attribute on the installer file is not set to "Read Only", the installer file will automatically be
deleted after the installation.

Go to [Start] -> [Settings] on your Pocket PC.
Tap the [System] tab and tap [Remove Programs] in the Settings window.
Select [Vodafone Connect Card Utility] from [Programs in storage memory]
Tap [Remove] to uninstall the program.

Today Window
The Today Window is the standard window for all Pocket PC2003 programs. In standard
configurations, this window is where you can start all the applications installed on your
Pocket PC. Above window shows the menu that displays when you tap [Start].
4.Using the Software
Starting up the Utility





Starting the Vodafone Connect Card Utility
Go to [Start] -> [Programs] and tap the Vodafone Connect
Card Utility icon to start the software. You will see the
Main Window ( see page 9) if the software has been
executed properly. If the [Validate PIN authentication] is
set on the USIM card, a PIN input dialog box will appear
( see page 12).
Starting the Utility while the VC701SI is in use
The Vodafone Connect Card Utility will not start if the
VC701SI is in use by any other applications such as
Internet Explorer.
Quitting the Vodafone Connect Card Utility
The Vodafone Connect Card Utility will be closed in any case below:
Tapping the
on the Main Window.
Tapping [Connect] to establish a connection or tapping the URL on the Help window.
Other application is executed.
The VC701SI is removed from the Pocket PC.
The Pocket PC turns to suspend/resume mode.
If you restart the Vodafone Connect Card Utility for VC701SI immediately after tapping the button on
the Main Window or starting another software, the Shutdown window may appear or the Vodafone
Connect Card Utility for VC701SI may not close properly.
The Vodafone Connect Card Utility may not close properly depending on the settings of the Pocket
PC's functions such as the power management.
Program Menu
Main Window
The Main Window displays the Card Phone No., signal strength and Charge information.
You can access the each window of the Vodafone Connect Card Utility for VC701SI by
tapping any one of icons. Each function is explained in detail in the following pages:
Connect - Dial up the specified connection or go to the connection window where you
can create/edit/delete a connection or restore the default connections (
see page 16) .
Settings - Go to the Settings Window where you can configure the card settings or
security settings ( see page 21) .
Tools - Go to the History Window where you can see the history data and configure
settings (
see page 25) .
Help - Go to the help window where you can see the Vodafone Connect Card Utility
version number, Customer Support phone numbers and the support page URL
( see page 27).
Main Window






















Card Status
The Card Status shows the signal strength, USIM card status and whether the VC701SI is
inserted into your Pocket PC or not.
Icon Description
No signal
The VC701SI is not receiving a signal.
You cannot dial up.
Signal Strength
There are four levels of signal strength: faint, weak, moderate, normal represented by the
number of bars. You may not be able to dial up when the signal strength is faint or weak.
Check the signal strength before dialing up.
NO CARD
The NO CARD icon appears when the VC701SI is not inserted in the Pocket PC.
NO USIM
The NO USIM icon appears when the USIM card is not inserted in the VC701SI, PIN input has
been cancelled or a USIM card from another carrier is inserted.
PIN LOCK
The PIN LOCK icon appears when the USIM card is being locked after an incorrect PIN has
been input 3 times consecutively.
Card Phone Number
Card Phone No.displays the phone number stored in the USIM card.
When the number cannot be displayed "-------------" will appear.
Charge information and Reset History Button
History data displayed in this utility differs from the data in the utility of the
Windows edition.
The charge information shows the transferred data volumes, total charges and date and
time of last reset. Date and time of last reset shows the time when you tap [Reset] button
of a main window. Transferred data volume shows the sum of sent and received bytes
since last time you tap [Reset]. Total charges shows total charges calculated by the Unit
price of Packet Communication since last time you tap[Reset].
If you do not want to
display the charge information, go to the History Settings window (
see page 26) and
uncheck [Show connection history].
The following dialog box will appear when you tap the [Reset] button.
Tap [OK] to reset the charge information and update the [Date of last reset]. All of the
total of connections since the last reset will be saved in the history file before being reset.
( see page 25 for details)
Tap [Cancel] to cancel the reset and return to the Main Window.
The USIM card has a PIN to prevent unauthorized use of the card. In an initail state, a PIN
is set to a some value (see the manual of the USIM card), but it is recommended that you
change this to another PIN to ensure security. You can change the PIN with the Vodafone
Connect Card Utility (
see page 24).
The VC701SI cannot dial up a connection on Pocket PC2003 with the USIM
card set to [Validate PIN authentication].
PIN Authentication
PIN Input
When the USIM card is set to [Validate PIN authentication], the following PIN input
dialog box will appear.
Input your PIN, and tap [OK].
If you tap [Cancel], the Main Window (
see page 9) will appear with "PIN LOCK"
status. The number of input tries will not decrease even if you cancel PIN input.
PIN authentication succeeded
If you entered the correct PIN, the following dialog box will appear.
Tap [OK]. The Security Window ( see page 23) will appear so you can disable
[Validate PIN authentication]. If you tap [Cancel], the Main Window (
see page 9) will
appear.
PIN Authentication

PIN authentication failed
If you entered an incorrect PIN, the following dialog box will appear.
Tap

to return to the PIN Input Dialog Box.
If you enter an incorrect PIN for 3 times consecutively, the USIM card will be
locked and further input is not available. (see PIN Lock).
PIN Lock
If you enter an incorrect PIN for 3 times consecutively, the following dialog box will
appear. In order to clear PIN Lock, you need to enter a PIN Unlock Code (PUK code).
After you enter the PIN unlock code, you need to set a new PIN.
Tap

to display the PIN Unlock Code Input dialog box ( see page 14).
Please contact Customer Service ( see page 31) to get the PIN Unlock
Code. Please be prepared to provide identification to the Customer Service
Representative to confirm the USIM card is yours.
When the USIM card is locked, you need to enter the PIN unlock code to restore it.
Unlocking the PIN
PIN Unlock Code Input
If you enter an incorrect PIN for 3 times consecutively or the utility detects a locked
USIM card at startup, the following PIN Unlock Code Input dialog box will appear.
Enter the PIN Unlock code, and tap [OK].
If you tap [Cancel], the Main Window (
see page 9) will appear with "PIN LOCK"
status.
Unlocking the PIN succeeded
When you enter the correct PIN Unlock Code, the new PIN will be stored in the USIM
card and the Vodafone Connect Card Utility for VC701SI will continue as if you entered
the correct PIN (
see page 12).
It is recommended to make a memo of the new PIN just in case that you forget
it.

Unlocking the PIN failed
If you entered an incorrect PIN Unlock Code, the following dialog box will appear.
Tap

to return to the PIN Unlock Code Input Dialog Box.
USIM Card Lock
If you enter an incorrect PIN Unlock Code for 10 times consecutively, the USIM card will
completely lock out any further input and the following dialog box will appear. The same
dialog box will appear when you startup the Vodafone Connect Card Utility with a locked
USIM card.
Tap

to go to the Main Window ( see page 9) with "PIN LOCK" status.
You will need to contact Vodafone Customer Service (
see page 31) for
information on how to restore your USIM card from USIM lock mode.
Using the Connect Button
A popup menu with [Dial up] and [Connections] appears when you tap the [Connect]
button. If you tap [Dial up], the Dial up confirmation dialog box will appear. If you tap
[Connections], the Connections window will appear (
see page 17 for details).
Dial up
When you tap [Dial up], a dialog box will appear asking if you want to dial the selected
connection. When you tap [OK] to dial up connection, the Vodafone Connect Card Utility
will be closed.
NOTE: If the "Vodafone-VC701SI" is not set as the default modem or the VC701SI is not
available, the VC701SI will not be able to dial up. Check the [Connections] settings if you
have a trouble in dialing up.







Connection Settings Window
You can create/edit/delete connection settings in the Connections Settings window.
You can also restore the Access Internet default settings: "Vodafone(Packet)" and
"Vodafone(64k Digital)" after you edited or deleted their default.

Selected Connection Allow you to select a connection to dial up. Tap the radio button in front of the
Access Point Name to select a connection..
Create New Connection Allow you to create a new connection
see page 18 for details).
Edit Connection Allow you to edit a connection. Tap on the Access Point Name and [Edit] to edit the
connection ( see page 18 for details).
Delete Connection Allow you to delete a connection. Tap on the Access Point Name and [Delete] to
delete the connection ( see page 20 for details).
Restore Access Internet
Settings
Allow you to restore the connection defaults. Tap [Load default] to reset the Access
Internet settings:
Vodafone(Packet) and Vodafone(64k Digital) ( see page 20
for details).
Tap

to return to the Main Window ( see page 9).







Creating and Editing Connections
Item Description
Access Point Enter the Access Point name.
Any alphanumeric character except
:
/"<>*\|? can be used up to 20 characters
long.
User ID Enter the User ID.
Any alphanumeric character can be used up to 64 characters long.
Password Any single byte alphanumeric character can be used up to 64 characters long.
Phone Number Enter the dial-up number for the connection.
Any single byte alphanumeric character can be used up to 64 characters long.
Cancel Discard all input and returns to the Connection Window.
Create Create a new connection based on the input information.
Apply Store the connection with the changes.
Option Open the [Option Settings] window ( see page 19).

Option Settings
Item Description
Primary DNS Enter the address of the primary DNS server. Each input field should be the value
from 0 to 255.
Secondary DNS Enter the address of the secondary DNS server. Each input field should be the value
from 0 to 255.
Primary WINS Enter the address of the primary WINS server. Each input field should be the value
from 0 to 255.
Secondary WINS Enter the address of the secondary WINS server. Each input field should be the
value from 0 to 255.
APN Enter the APN for the connection.
Up to 100 alphanumeric characters including dash ( - ) and dot ( . ) can be used. A
symbol: a dash ( - ) or a dot ( . ) cannot be used at the beginning or end of an APN.
No need to configure to use Access Internet.
Cancel Discard all the input and return to the previous window.
OK Close the Option Settings window and return to the previous window ( see page
18). It does not store any settings until you tap the Create/Edit button in the Create/
Edit Window.
