2. ESSENTIAL FIREARM SAFETY GUIDELINES

TheserearmsafetyguidelineshavebeenpreparedbyZenithFirearms,basedupon

currentlyavailableinformation.Theyareprovidedtoyouasacourtesyandintheinterest

offurtheringsafety.Theseguidelinesarenotcomprehensive,nordotheymodifyor

replacerules,recommendations,standards,orregulationsmadebylegalauthoritiesor

manufacturers.

Asaresponsiblerearmssupplier,Zenithbelievesthatnoissueismoreimportantthan

rearmsafety.Weurgeyoutolearnandpracticethefollowingguidelinesandtomake

themyourhabitwhenhandlingrearms.Thiswillhelpensuresafehandlingofyour

rearm(s)andhelppreventaccidents.Wealsoencourageyoutocompleteanapproved

rearmssafety-trainingcourse.

THE 3 CARDINAL FIREARMS SAFETY RULES

1. Alwayshandlearearmasifitisloaded

Evenifyoudeterminethatarearmisunloaded,always,always,alwayshandleitlikeitIS

loaded.Whenyouhandlearearm,therstthingyoushoulddo(withtherearmpointed

inasafedirection),isopentheactiontoidentifywhethertherearmisloaded.Ifyoudo

notknowhowtoopentheaction,donothandletherearm.Andremember,removing

amagazinealonedoesnotmakearearmunloaded,astheremaybearoundinthe

chamber.

2. Alwayskeepyourngeroutofthetriggerguardandoffthetriggeruntilyouareready

toshootyourtarget

Donotplaceyourngerinsidethetriggerguarduntilyouhaveplacedarearm’ssights

onyourtargetandhavedecidedtore.Thebestplacetorestyourngerinthemeantime

isabovethetriggerguardalongtheframe.Bywaitinguntilyouareaimedatyourtarget,

ifthetriggerweretobepressed,youwillguaranteethatashotwilltravelsafelyinthe

directionofyourintendedtarget.

3. Alwayskeeparearmpointedinasafedirection,beforeandbeyondyourtarget

Itisimportanttoidentifyyouractualtarget,butitisjustasimportanttoknowwhatliespast

andbeforeyourtarget.Asafedirectionisanydirectionwhereanunintentionaldischarge

ormisswillnotcauseinjuryordamage.Indeterminingasafedirection,rememberthat

aroundcanricochetoffanobjectlikeaoor,waterorwall,orgothroughwalls,oors,

ceilings,andwindows.Whetherinahouseoroutdoors,thesafestdirectionisthemuzzle

angleddowntowardtheoor.Andneverpointatorcrossthemuzzleofarearm(loaded

orunloaded)atanypartofanyperson’sbody—thelaserrule!

ALWAYS KEEP CHILDREN AND OTHERS SAFE BY STORING FIREARMS SECURE AND AWAY

FROM UNAUTHORIZED PERSONS

Youshouldalwaysstorerearmsandammunitionoutofthesightandreachofchildren

andanyoneelsewhoisnotanintendeduserornotphysicallyormentallycapableof

handlingandusingthemproperlyandsafely.Storerearmsinasafestorageplace–

ideally,oneyoucanlock.

CAREFULLY READ THE ENTIRE INSTRUCTION MANUAL THAT COMES WITH YOUR

FIREARM

Youshouldonlyusearearmifyoufullyunderstandhowtosafelyoperateit.Allrearms

comewithaninstructionmanualcreatedbythemanufacturer.Iftherearmdoesnotcome

withaninstructionmanual,contactthemanufacturerdirectlyandrequestone.

ALWAYS DETERMINE THAT THE FIREARM IS SAFE TO OPERATE

Beforeshooting,makesuretherearmisingoodworkingorder,thatthebarrelisclear,

andthattherearmissafetooperate.Thisisespeciallyimportantwhenhandlinga

rearmthathasbeenstoredorunusedforalongperiodoftime.

ALWAYS USE CORRECT AMMUNITION

Neveruseimproperorincorrectammunition.Onlyuseammunitionthatisrecommended

bytherearmmanufacturerthecaliberofyourrearm.Mostrearmshavethecaliber

engravedorstampedonthebarrel.Yourammunitionshouldhavetheexactsamecaliber.

Ifyouusetheincorrectammunition,itcandestroyarearmandcauseseriousinjury.

Additionally,itvoidsyourwarranty.

WHENCLEANINGAFIREARM,MAKESUREITISNOTLOADED

Oneofthemostcommonstatementsfollowinganaccidentaldischargeis:“Iwascleaning

therearmanditwentoff!”Whenyoucleanarearm,makesureitisnotloaded.You

shouldkeeptheammunitioninanotherroomuntilyouhavenishedcleaningtherearm

andarereadytoreload.

NEVER USE FIREARMS WHILE USING DRUGS OR ALCOHOL

Whenyouhandlerearms,yourjudgmentmustNOTbeimpaired.YoushouldNEVER

handlerearmswhileundertheinuenceofalcohol,illegaldrugsorwhileusinglegal

prescriptionmedicationthatcanmakeyoutiredoraffectyoursenses,reexes,or

judgment.

USE EYE AND EAR PROTECTION

Alwayswearpropereyeandearprotectionwhileshootingrearms;earprotectionwillhelp

preventhearinglossfromtheextremedecibellevelofgunre,andeyeprotectionwillhelp

preventejectiongases,ricochetedobjects,casings,oranyforeignobjectsfromdamaging

youreyes.Besmart,besafe.

3. BEFORE USING YOUR PISTOL

YourTisaspistolissemi-automatic,meaningthatitis

automaticallyreloadedandreadytoreagainafter

eachshot.

YourTisaspistolcanreevenwithoutamagazine

inserted.Forthatreason,ejectingthemagazineor

insertinganemptymagazinedoesnotmakeyour

pistolsafe.Rather,toensureyourpistolissafe,

youmustejectthemagazine,emptythechamber,

andthenvisuallyinspectthechambertoensureno

cartridgeorotherobstructionispresent.

Possess,carryanduseyourpistolinaccordancewithallrelevantlocal,state,andfederal

laws.Ifyoupurchasedthisrearmsecondhand,haveitcheckedbyaqualiedarmoreror

gunsmithtoensureitissafetooperate.

ATTENTION: Keep your ﬁ rearm in a safe place where children cannot

access it. Always store your ﬁ rearm unloaded and store the key to the lock

separately from the ammunition.

IMPORTANT: When not in

use, your ﬁ rearm should be

secured with a lock to prevent

unauthorized use. A cable

lock, such as shown here must

be used to prevent the ﬁ rearm

from locking into battery to

prevent use.

5. OVERVIEW OF SAFETY MECHANISMS

YourTisaspistolisequippedwithagrip

safety.Whenengaged,thissafetyfeature

providesablockinfrontofthetrigger

mechanismthatpreventsring.Whenthe

shootergripsthepistolrmly,thissafety

featuredisengagesandceasestopresent

abarriertoring.However,disengagement

ofthisfeaturehasnobearingontheother

safetyfeatures.Inorderforthepistoltore,

thethumbsafetymustalsobedisengaged.

Thethumbsafety(2) canbeengaged

anddisengagedwhenthehammer(1)

isinthecockedposition.However,when

thehammerisintheforwardposition,

thethumbsafetycannotbeengagedor

disengaged.

Thehammer safetyisengagedwhenthehammeriscockedandthethumbselectorlever

isswitchedintotheupposition.Whenthehammerisnotcocked,thissafetycannotbe

engaged,however,itcanbeengagedifthehammerishalf-cocked.

Ifthehammerisfully-cockedandyouwanttoengagethehammersafety,dothefollowing:

• Safelyunloadthepistolandperformaninspectiontoensureyouhavedoneso.

• Gripthepistolrmlyandpointitinasafedirection.

• Whilegraspingthehammerrmlybetweentwongers,squeezethetrigger,andslowly

guidethehammertoitshalf-cockedposition.

• Lockthehammerbyuseofthethumbsafetyselector.

Whenthehammersafetyisengaged,thehammerwillnottouchtheringpin.

ATTENTION: Do not attempt to engage the hammer safety when the

chamber is loaded. The pistol will ﬁ re if the hammer slips from between

your ﬁ ngers, possibly resulting in injury or death to yourself or others.

6. LOADING

Aftermakingsurethatyourpistolisclean,andthatthe

ammunitionisclean,dryandofthecorrectcaliberandtype,

holdthemagazinewithonehandandinsertammunition

cartridgesintothemagazinewiththeotherhanduntilthe

magazineisfullyloaded.

Insertthemagazineintothepistol,thenretracttheslideand

releaseit.Atthispoint,thechamberisloadedandyourpistol

isreadytore.

IMPORTANT: Always keep your ﬁ nger off the

trigger while loading your pistol, and always

point the barrel in a safe direction.

7. FIRING

• Gripyourpistolrmlyinsuchawayasto

disengagethegripsafety.

• Pointthepistolatyourintendedtargetand

assumeapropershootingstance.

• Aimthepistolpreciselyatyourintendedpointof

impactwithinthelargertarget.

• Whenyouarereadytore,placeyourngeron

thetriggerandlightlysqueezethetrigger.The

pistolwillreonecartridge,andthenreadyitselftoreasubsequentcartridge.

• Squeezethetriggeragaintorethissubsequentcartridge,andrepeatthisprocedure

untilyouwishtostopringoruntilyourunoutofammunition,atwhichpointtheslide

willlockinitsretractedposition.

IMPORTANT: If you are untrained or inexperienced, and have a misﬁ re, a

malfunction, or in the event the pistol stops ﬁ ring before the magazine is

empty, unload the pistol and utilize the assistance of a qualiﬁ ed ﬁ rearms

instructor before attempting to operate your Tisas pistol.

8. UNLOADING

Whenthelastcartridgeinthemagazineisred,theslidelocksinitsretractedposition.To

unloadfromthispoint:

• Pointthebarrelinasafedirection.

• Ejectthemagazinebypressingthemagazinereleaselever.

• Pulltheslidetotherearandvisuallyinspectthechambertoconrmthatitisempty.

• Slowlyreleasetheslidetoitsforwardposition.

Ifyouwishtounloadbeforethemagazinehasbeenemptied,whentheslideisina

forwardposition,orwhenthehammerisinthefully-cockedposition:

• Pointthebarrelinasafedirectionandkeepyourngeroffthetrigger.

• Ejectthemagazinebypressingthemagazinereleaselever.

• Pulltheslidetotherearandvisuallyinspectthechambertoconrmthatitisempty.

• Releasethehammerbyfollowingtheprocedureforthatspecicaction.

ATTENTION: In order to ensure that your pistol is unloaded, eject the

magazine and then visually inspect the chamber by pulling the slide

rearward.

9. DECOCKING THE HAMMER

• Pointthebarrelinasafedirectionandmakesure

yourpistolisunloaded.

• Gripthepistolproperlywithyourdominanthand

asifpreparingtore.

• Graspthehammerbetweenthethumbandindex

ngerofyourotherhand.

• Squeezethetriggerandslowlypushthehammer

untilthehammersafetyisengaged.Donot

releasethehammeruntilthehammertsintoitshalf-cockedposition.

ATTENTION: Always store and carry your pistol with its chamber empty

and its hammer safety engaged. When your pistol is loaded, do not try to

release the hammer, as doing so may ﬁ re your pistol and cause injury or

death to yourself or others. Also, release the hammer slowly by grasping

it ﬁ rmly between two ﬁ ngers. Fast release of the hammer can result in

damage to the ﬁ ring pin.

10. TROUBLESHOOTING

CAUTION: When troubleshooting, always safely unload your ﬁ rearm while

pointing in a safe direction.

Slide will not lock forward into battery:

• Donotattempttomanuallyforcetheslideintobattery.

• Pointyourbarrelinasafedirection.

• Ejectthemagazine.

• Retracttheslidetofacilitateextractionandejectionofthechamberedcartridge.

• Ifthecartridgedoesnotextractandeject,locktheslideinitsretractedposition.

• Inspectthecartridgeandcarefullyattemptmanualextraction/ejection.Ifthecartridge

cannotbeextracted/ejected,seektheassistanceofaqualiedarmorerorgunsmith.

ATTENTION: This problem may be the result of a dirty ﬁ rearm, incorrect

ammunition, or an incorrect magazine. Do not attempt manual extraction/

ejection of a severely impounded cartridge, as doing so may result in a

serious accident and/or injury.

Squib load, inadequate charge in cartridge:

• Thiscanberecognizedbyaweakreportwhenred,possiblyalightrecoilofthe

operationandafailedejection.

• Stopringimmediately.

• Unloadyourrearminasafemanner.

• Retractandlocktheslidetotherearandinspectboththechamberandthebarrelto

determinewhetherornottheyareobstructed.

• Ifanobstructionispresent,keepyourpistolpointedinasafedirectionandobtain

assistancefromaqualiedarmorerorgunsmith.

IMPORTANT: If the chamber/barrel becomes obstructed and you continue

to ﬁ re, the pistol may explode, resulting in serious injury or death to

yourself or others.

Troubleshooting other malfunctions:

• Replaceanydamagedmagazinesorammunitioncartridges.

• Inspectandcleanthechamber.

• Cleanthemagazine.

• Cleanthethumbsafetyselectorandthecartridgeramp.

• Ifaftertakingthesestepsyourpistolcontinuestomalfunction,obtainassistancefrom

aqualiedarmorerorgunsmith.

ATTENTION: Carry out all troubleshooting operations in a safe location

with the ﬁ rearm pointed in a safe direction.

ATTENTION: Cleaning solvent is a ﬂ ammable material and should be kept

away from a ﬂ ame.
