Please read this manual be-
fore using
Thank you for purchasing a MUTOH product.
This manual explains the steps for unpacking, mount-
ing and basic installation before using the MUTOH
Full-color inkjet printer VJ-2606.
This manual is intended for owners, installers, and
users of this product.
Understand the contents and instructions in this man-
ual before installing this product.

After unpacking, please confirm that the product has
not damaged and no components are missing.
If any items are damaged or missing, contact
MUTOH local dealer.

2 Assembling
This product has fastening materials in the place
shown below.
Detach all protective materials in accordance with the
following steps.
1.Remove all tapes from each cover.
2.Open the front cover.
3.Remove a screw from the head unit fastening material
(metal plate) using the Phillips screwdriver included
with this printer, and remove the material.
4.Close the front cover.
5.Remove the following components attached to both
sides of the cushioning roller using the Phillips screw-
driver included with this printer.

6.Remove the following components attached to
both sides of the tension roller using the Phillips
screwdriver included with this printer.

7.Open the left maintenance cover, then place the tray.
This completes detaching protective materials.
3 Installation
Procedures and environment for installing this product
are explained.
3.1 Installation environment
Install this product to the appropriate place with refer-
ence to the following.
Do not install the printer in the follow-
ing places where there is a possibility
that the printer may be damaged or
might fall or be fallen by chance.
On a shaky stand
Slanting location
Places where vibration of other machines
etc. is transmitted.
Do not stamp on the printer or do not
place heavy things on top of it. The
printer may be damaged or might fall
or be fallen by chance.
Cover the printer with blanket and
cloth like tablecloth and do not close
the vent. If the vent is closed, the print-
er could accumulate heat inside and
may cause fire.
Do not install the printer in a location
that has high humidity or is dusty.
It could lead to electric shock and fire.
3.1.1 Installation environmental condition
Select an installation location in accordance with the
table below.
For temperature and humidity, avoid locations
such as the following. There is a possibility that
the print quality will be affected.
Places where temperature or humidity may
rapidly change, even though within the required
conditions.
Places that receive direct sunlight, increased illu
mination or direct air, for example from an air
conditioner.
To keep the temperature and humidity constant, in-
stall this product in a location where the air condi-
tion is adjustable.

3.1.2Installation space
Install on a level floor which meets the following con-
dition.
It has enough strength to support the weight of the
printer and the stand.
For the weight of the printer and the stand, refer to
the Operation Manual.

3.2Installation procedure
Install this product to the installation place in accord-
ance with the list shown below.
1.Carry the printer to the installation place.
2.Turn the following adjusters in the direction as
shown below to prevent the printer from moving.
Stands: adjusters (4)
Winding units: adjusters (2)
Feed units: adjusters (2)
3.Set the spirit level on the right and left platens and
adjust so that the printer stays flat.
4.Confirm that the waste fluid valve is closed.
4 Connecting the power cable
This section explains how to connect the power cable.
Make sure that the included power ca-
ble is used.
If other power cables are used, it may
cause an electric shock or fire.
Do not use a damaged power cable. It
may cause an electric shock or fire.
Follow the steps below to connect the power cable.
1.Confirm that the product is turned OFF.
If the [Power] key is pressed, the product is turned
ON. Press the key again, and turn OFF the power.
2.Connect the power cables (x 2) to the AC inlets (x 2)
on the right of the product.
3.Correctly insert the power cable plug into the power
socket.
To use the two power cables plugged in the inlets,
a total capacity of 24 A or over is required. If the
power source cannot supply the required capacity,
plug the two power cables in the different power
sources respectively.

Turning the power ON/OFF
This section explains how to turn ON/OFF the printer.
5.1 Turning the power ON
Follow the procedure below to turn ON the printer.
1.Press the [Power] key on the operation panel to
turn ON the printer.
The Power lamp on the operation panel lights up
in green.
The printer starts initial operation.
When the initial operation is complete, the printer
enters normal status.
5.2 Turning the power OFF
Follow the procedure below to turn OFF the printer.
1.Regarding the operating condition of the printer,
confirm the following.
Printing or other operations are not in progress.
The operation panel is in normal status.
2.Press the [Power] key on the operation panel to
turn OFF the printer.
The Power lamp on the operation panel turns OFF.
If the operation panel is in the following status, the
power is ON.
The [Power] key is pressed in.
The Power lamp lights up in green.
Press the key once again and turn OFF the power.
3.The printer starts operating to turn the power OFF.
The operation panel displays "Power Off".
All the lamps on the operation panel and the LCD
monitor are turned OFF.
The printer automatically turns the power OFF.
After turning OFF the printer, wait for 10 seconds
or longer to turn it ON again.
When not using the printer for a long period, push
the media loading lever to the back.
4.When you will not use the printer for a long period
of time, raise the media loading lever.

6 Installing the ink cartridge
This section explains how to install ink cartridges.
Follow the steps below to install ink cartridges.
1.Turn ON the product.
The printer starts the initializing operation.
After the initial operation is complete, "Start Ink
Charge ->E" is displayed on the operation panel.
2.Press the [Enter] key on the operation manual.
The cleaning fluid which is filled at the factory
shipment is ejected.
After the cleaning fluid is discharged, "Wash Retry?
No" is displayed on the operation panel.
When cleaning the head before ink filling, select "Yes"
to press [+] or [-] keys on the operation panel.
Then press [Enter] key and clean the head.
3.Press the [Enter] key on the operation manual.
"Insert InkCartridges" is displayed on the opera-
tion panel.
4.Take out the ink cartridge from the bag and shake
it gently two to three times before installing.
Slots for ink cartridges are specified depending on
the colors of the ink cartridge.
Match the mark on each slot with the color of the
ink cartridge.
Install the ink cartridges with mark facing to the
product.
Insert the cartridge all the way into the product.
"Ink Refill **%" is displayed on the operation
panel and ink replenishment starts.
The ink replenishment takes about twelve minutes.
Ink filling operation and pause operation are re-
peated during the ink replenishment.
When "100%" is displayed, the ink replenishment
is complete.
After the ink replenishment is complete, "SubTank
Refill" is displayed on the operation panel, and the
SubTank Refill is started.
After the SubTank Refill is complete, "Media End"
is displayed on the operation panel.
If the Nozzle check printing is performed immedi-
ately after the ink replenishment is complete, the
following results may occur.
Printed line becomes blurred.
The data is not partially printing.
In such cases, follow the Operation Manual "6.2.3
Head cleaning" and charge a small amount of ink.
Then, check the printing result.
If there is no improvement in the print result even
after refilling a small amount of ink, leave the
printer for one hour or more, and refill a small
amount of ink again.
If there is still no improvement, contact MUTOH
local dealer.
7 Loading the roll media
This section describes how to load roll media.
Place the roll media in the center of the printer.
Follow the steps below to load roll media.
1. Loosen the fixing knobs of the right and left rear
feed units, and stretch the knobs wider than the
width of the roll media.
2. Place the media on the rail of the feed unit.
3. Lift the left side of the roll media (looking from
the rear), attach it to the feed unit, and fix it with
the fixing knob.
4.Set the other side of the roll media in the same
way as in step 3.
5. Loosen the fixing knobs of the right and left feed
units, move the roll media to the center and tighten
the knobs.
Be sure to press the feed units against the printer
while locking them.

6. Turn the printer ON.
The printer starts initial operation.
"Media End" is displayed on the operation panel.
7.Raise the media loading lever.
"Lever Up" is displayed on the operation panel.
8. Open the front cover.
9.Lift the tension roller on the rear of the printer us-
ing your hands.
The roll media is fed.
10.Pass the roll media through the tension roller first,
and insert it into the media feed slot.
a.When using roll media with the printing side
facing outwards
b.When using roll media with the printing side
facing inwards
Any problems caused by using roll media with
the printing side facing inwards cannot be cov-
ered by the warranty.
11.Pull the roll media approximately 1 m out of the
media feed slot, which is inside the front cover.
12.Display the Manual reel menu on the operation
panel.
a.Press the [Menu] key on the operation panel.
Press the [+] key or [-] key to select "Menu6:
Manual Reel >".
The display enters the Setup menu.
b.Press the [+] key or [-] key to select "Menu6:
Manual Reel >".
c.Press the [>] key on the operation panel.
"<- Order [T-up] Reverse ->" is displayed on
the operation panel.
13.Press the [+] key or [-] key to select "<- Order
[Feed] Reverse ->".
14.While holding the front end of the roll media, wind
the media back for a short distance by pressing the
[>] key on the operation panel so that the media is
not slack or slanted.
If you release your grip on the roll media while it
is being wound, the media may slip off the media
feed slot and fall behind the printer.
Make sure that the right end of the roll media does
not go beyond the media loading mark. It may af-
fect print quality.
When loading roll media, set each side of the media
at least 5 mm away from the edges of the pressurizing
roller. Failing to do so may cause the media to slip
or wrinkle while being printed on.
15.If the distance between the edge of the roll media
and the pressurizing roller is less than 5 mm, follow
the procedure below to adjust the position of the
roll media.
a.Loosen the fixing knobs of the right and left feed
units, and move the roll media to the right or left.
b.After moving the roll media, tighten the fixing
knobs.
Be sure to press the feed units against the print-
er while locking them.
16.Press the [Cancel] key on the operation panel.
The operation panel returns to Normal.

17.Lower the media loading lever.
When you increase the pressure for the media, low-
er the media loading lever further.
18.Close the front cover.
8 Using the winding units
This section describes how to use the winding units.
Using the winding units allows printed media to be au-
tomatically wound around the media tube.
When using the winding units, follow the procedure
below to load roll media.
When using the winding units, make sure to load
media before start printing.
1.Attach the media tube to the winding units.

When using the winding units, make sure to use
the media tube included with this printer.
2.Load the roll media to the printer.

3.Press the [Forward ] key on the operation panel,
and feed the roll media to the media tube on the
winding unit.
4.Pull the roll media out of the media feed slot, and
attach the media to the media tube using tape so
that they are parallel to each other.
When setting roll media to the winding units:
Make sure that there are no wrinkles or slack
parts in either front or rear of the media.
Attach the roll media to the media tube with the
printing side facing outwards. The media cannot
be wound if it is attached with the printing side
facing inwards.
Cut both ends of the roll media so that the media
can be wound correctly as shown below.

5.Press the [Forward ] key, and wind the roll media
around the media tube of the winding unit approxi-
mately one and half times.
This completes attaching the roll media to the me-
dia tube.

Checking printing conditions
Check the condition of the print head after the ink re-
plenishment.
1.Turn ON the printer and load the roll media.

2.Confirm that the printer functions normally.
3.Press the [<] key on the operation panel for two
seconds or more.
Nozzle check printing starts.
4.Check the sample print for blurred or missing
parts in the check pattern.
5.If the nozzle check result indicates that there is a
problem such as mentioned above in the check pat-
tern, clean the head.
Press and hold the [Cleaning] key on the operation
panel for two seconds or more.
"Cleaning **%" is displayed on the operation panel.
6.Head cleaning starts.
If one time of head cleaning was not enough to re-
move blurred or missing parts in the check pattern,
perform powerful cleaning.
If those problems above were not improved after a
few times of head cleaning, refer to the Operation
Manual "7 Troubleshooting" and perform required
procedures.
7.Perform nozzle check again and check the condi-
tion of the print head.
