Photosensitivity
A very small perc entage of in dividuals may ex perience ep ileptic seiz ures when
exposed to cer tain light patterns or f lashing li ghts. Exposur e to certain p atterns
or backgrou nds on a tel evision s creen or w hile playing video gam es, includi ng
games played on the PSP™ system, ma y trigger an epilep tic seizure in these
individuals. Certain conditions may trigger previously undetected epileptic
symptoms even in persons who have no history of prior seizures or epilepsy. If
you, or anyon e in your family, has a n epilepti c condition, consult your
physician prior to playing . If you ex perience an y of the f ollowin g symptoms
while playing a video game - dizziness, altered vision, eye or muscle twitches,
loss of awareness, disorientation, any involuntary movement or convulsions -

Radio waves
Radio waves m ay affect electronic equipment or medical devices (fo r example,

Precautions
Before using this product, carefully read this manual and retain it for future
referenc e.
Safety
This product has been designed with the highest concern for safety. However,
any electric al devic e, if used impr operly, h as the potent ial for ca using fir e,
electrica l shock or p ersonal injury. To h elp ensu re accident -free oper ation,
follow these guidelines:
Observe a ll warning s, precau tions an d instruct ions.
Regularly inspect t he AC adaptor and AC power cord for da mage and f or dust
build-up around the p ower plug or electr ical outle t.
Stop use, unplug the AC powe r cord fr om the elec trical o utlet and disconne ct
any other cables immediately if the device functions in an abnormal manner,
produces u nusual soun ds or smel ls or beco mes too hot to touch.
Call SCEA Co nsumer Ser vices at 1-8 00-345-76 69 if the dev ice does not
operate properly.
Use and handling
Use in a wel l-lit ar ea and keep t he scree n a safe dis tance from your face .
Avoid prol onged use of t he PSP™ syst em. To help pre vent eyestr ain, take a
break of ab out 15 minu tes duri ng every hou r of play.
If you experi ence any of th e followin g health probl ems, disc ontinue use of the
system immedi ately. If s ymptoms persi st, consul t with your physician .
– Dizzines s, nausea, fa tigue or s ymptoms simil ar to motion s ickness
– Discomfor t or pain in a part of t he body, su ch as eyes, ears, hand s or arms
Keep the sy stem and a ccessories out of t he reach of small ch ildren.
Small child ren may swa llow the Memory Stick Duo™ or wrap the cables/
straps arou nd themsel ves, which may inflict injury or cause an accident or a
malfunction.
Do not us e the system while drivi ng or ridi ng a bicyc le. Lookin g at the scr een
or operating the system while driving an automobile or riding a bicy cle may
result in a traffic accident.
Take extra care when using the s ystem whi le walking.
Be careful not to pin ch your fin gers when cl osing the d isc cove r.

Do not use the system or a ccessories near wate r.
Use only atta chments/acc essorie s specifie d by the m anufactur er.
Do not use the headphone s if the y cause dis comfort t o your sk in.
If the supp lied headp hones caus e discomfor t to your ski n, discont inue use
immediately. If symptoms do not subside even after discontinuing use, seek
medical attention.
Do not expose the system or accessories to high temperatures, high humidity,
or direct su nlight.
Do not leave the system or accessories in a car with the windows closed
(particul arly in su mmer).
Do not expose the system or accessories to dust, smoke or steam.
Do not allow liquid or small particles to get into the system or accessories.
Do not place the system or acce ssories on surfaces t hat are til ted, unstab le or
subject to vib ration.
Do not throw or drop the s ystem or acc essories, o r subject the devi ces to
strong phys ical shock . Handle the analog sti ck with care.
Do not forcib ly twist t he PSP™ sy stem or ex pose the sy stem to s trong
physical sh ock during gameplay, as do ing so can da mage the sys tem or cause
the disc co ver to op en, ejectin g the di sc.
Do not put heavy object s on the system or acce ssories.
Do not touch or insert f oreign obje cts int o the connec tors of the system o r
accessories.
Do not place the system close to items with a magnetic strip, such as credit
cards.
Do not touch the system or AC adapto r for an exte nded peri od of time whi le
in use. Depen ding on the condition s of use, the system or AC adaptor may
reach temper atures of 40° C/104° F or more. Extend ed contact under thes e
conditions ma y cause l ow-temperatur e burns*.
* Low-temperature burns are burns that occur when the skin is in contact with objects of
relatively low temperatures (40°C or more/104°F or more) for an extended period of ti me.
AC adaptor and AC power cord use
Do not touch the plug of the AC power cor d with wet ha nds.
Do not touch the AC power cord, AC adaptor or the system, if connected to
an electrica l outlet, during an el ectrical st orm.
Do not use a power source other than the supplied battery pack, AC adaptor
and AC power c ord.

Precautions
Do not al low dust or f oreign ma tter to bui ld up around the syst em or acces sory
connector s. If there is dust or foreign matter on the syst em's connect ors or the
AC power co rd, wipe it off with a dry clot h before c onnecting. Dust or ot her
matter on the connectors can result in fire or electrical shock.
Unplug the AC power cord from the electrical outlet and remove the battery
pack from the system before cleaning or when you do not intend to use the
system for an extended period of time.
Protect t he AC power co rd from be ing walked on or pinc hed partic ularly at
plugs, convenience receptacles and the point where they exit from the system.
When disconnecting the AC power cord, hold it by the plug and pull straight
out from t he electrica l socket. Ne ver pull by the cord an d do not p ull at an
angle.
Do not use the system to play games or video when the system is covered with
any type of f abric. If yo u want to pa use or tempor arily store t he syste m while
playing games or video, put the system in sleep mode before placing it in the
pouch. Also do no t use the AC adapto r when covered with fabric. This may
help to avoid overheating.
Do not conn ect the AC po wer cord to a voltage tra nsformer or i nverter.
Connectin g the AC power cord to a v oltage tra nsformer fo r overseas travel or
an inverter for use in an automob ile may cau se heat to b uild up in t he AC
adaptor an d may caus e burns or a malfunctio n.
LCD screen
Red, blue or green spots (bright spots) or black spots (dark spots) may appear
in certain location s on the LCD screen. The appeara nce of suc h spots is a
normal occurrence associated with LCD screens and is not a sign of a
malfunction. LCD screens are made using highly precise technology.
However, a very s mall number of da rk pixels or con tinuously lit pixels exis t
on each screen. Also, a distorted image may remain on the screen for several
seconds after the system has been turned off.
Direct expos ure to sunlig ht may damage th e system's LCD screen. Be care ful
when using the system outdoors or near a wi ndow.
When usin g the system i n a cold en vironment, you may not ice shadows on
the graphics or the s creen may ap pear dark er than usu al. This is no t a
malfunction , and the s creen will r eturn to no rmal when the temperatur e goes
up.
Do not leav e still imag es display ed on the screen for an extended period o f
time. This may cause a f aint ima ge to be le ft permanent ly on th e screen.

Memory Stick Duo™
For best results, follow these guidelines:
Do not touch the connecto r area (A) with your hands or with metal objects.
Do not press hard when writing on the memo area (B).
Do not insert a Memory Stick Duo™ into a device designed t o accept onl y
standard-s ize Memory St ick™ media .
Do not use or store a Memory Stick Duo™ in the following:
– Place s subjec t to high t emperatures , such as i n a hot ve hicle
– Loca tions expo sed to dire ct sunlig ht
– Loca tions tha t are very h umid or co nducive to corrosio n
Use the suppl ied case to carry or st ore the Memo ry Stick Duo™.
x Recorded data
Do not use the Memory St ick Duo™ in the followin g ways, as doi ng so may
result in data loss or corruption:
Removing the Memory Stick Duo™ or turning off the system while it is
loading or saving da ta or bein g formatted .
Using it in a location that is exposed to static electricity or electrical
interference.
If, for an y reason, software or data loss or corrup tion occur s, it is us ually
not possi ble to reco ver the s oftware or data. It is recommended that you
regularly back up software and data. Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.
and its subs idiarie s and affilia tes will not be held liabl e for any damag es or
injury in the case of software o r data los s or corr uption.
In accordance with copyright law, no recorded data may be used for

Pouch and wrist strap
If you want to paus e or temporari ly store the system while play ing games or
video, put t he syste m in sleep mo de before pl acing it in th e pouch. Thi s may
help to avoid overheating.
Put both the PSP™ sys tem and the r emote con trol in hold mode to he lp
prevent un intended operation .
Keep the po uch and wri st strap out of th e reach of s mall chi ldren.
Never disassemble the system or supplied accessories
Use the PSP™ system and accessories according to the instructions in this
manual. No aut horizatio n for the a nalysis or modificati on of the sys tem, or th e
analysis a nd use of it s circu it configu rations, is provided. Disassem bling will
void the system warranty. Additionally, there is a risk of fire, electrical shock
or malfunct ion. The LCD s creen, in pa rticular, contains d angerous, hi gh-
voltage par ts, and the laser beam for readi ng UMD™ may c ause visua l
impairmen t if exp osed direct ly to th e eyes.
Overseas use
Depending on the coun try, there are limita tions on t he use of certain ty pes of
radio waves . In some cas es, use of t he system may lead to a f ine or oth er
penalty.
Moisture condensation
If the PSP™ system or UMD™ is brought directly from a cold location to a
warm one, moisture may condense on the lens inside the system or on the
UMD™. Should t his occur, t he system may not operate properly. In this case,
remove the UM D™ and turn off and unplug th e system. Do not put the UMD™
back in until the moisture evaporates (this may take several hours). If the
system still does not operate properly, contact our technical support line at
1-800-345- 7669 for a ssistance .
UMD™ handling
Do not touch the opening on the rear of the disc (recorded surface of the disc)
with your fingers.
Do not allow dust, sand, foreign objects or other types of dirt to get on the
disc.

If the UMD™ becomes dirty, gently wipe the exterior and recorded surfaces
of the UMD™ us ing a soft cloth. Do no t use solve nts or oth er chemical s.
Cleaning
For safety reasons, unplug the AC power cord from the electrical outlet and
remove the battery pa ck from th e system bef ore cleani ng.
x Cleaning the exterior surface
Wipe gentl y with a dam p cloth, and then dry the surfa ce. Do not us e solven ts or
other chem icals to clean th e exterior of the P SP™ system.
x Cleaning the LCD screen
Wipe gently wi th a soft cl oth.
x Cleaning the connectors
Do not use when the conne ctors of the s ystem, AC adapto r or the AC power
cord are not clean. Remo ve the di rt with a dry cloth or co tton swab. I f used
when dirty, the flow of electrica l current may be obst ructed.
If the headpho nes or remot e control c onnectors b ecome dirty , this coul d cause
noise or in terrupt ions in s ound. Wip e the conn ectors with a dry, sof t cloth to
keep in cle an condit ion.

Battery pack precautions
Do not handle a damaged or leaking battery pack.
Contact with the material can result in injury or burns to the eyes or skin. Even
if foreign substance s are not i mmediately v isible, ch emical chan ges in the
material c an result i n injurie s occurri ng at a lat er time.
Handle the battery pack with care.
The battery pack may exp lode or pres ent a fire or chemical bur n hazard if it is
not handled car efully.
Do not allow the battery pack to come into contact with fire or subject it to
extreme te mperatures such as i n direct s unlight, i n a vehicle exposed to the
sun or near a heat sou rce.
Do not caus e the bat tery pack t o short- circuit.
Do not dis assemble or tamper with the batt ery pack.
Prevent da mage to the battery pack. Do not c arry or s tore the b attery pack
with metal items such as coins or keys. If damaged, discontinue use.
Do not thr ow or drop th e batter y pack or su bject it t o strong physical shock.
Do not put heavy obj ects on or a pply press ure to the battery pac k.
Do not allow the battery pack to come into contact with liquids. If it becomes
wet, discontinue use until it is completely dry.
Keep the batter y pack out of the re ach of small chi ldren.
If the PSP™ system will not be used for an extended period of time, remove
the batte ry pack and store it i n a cool, dr y place ou t of the re ach of chil dren.
Use only the supplied battery pack or a replacement marked for use with the
PSP™ system.
Use only the desi gnated AC adapto r to charge the batter y pack.
Warnings
If you come into cont act with m aterial from a le aking bat tery pack, take the
followin g actions:
If the ma terial gets into th e eyes, do not rub. Imm ediately flush the eyes
with clean wa ter and s eek medical attentio n.
If the mat erial comes into cont act with th e skin or clothes, i mmediately
rinse the af fected are a with clea n water. Cons ult your p hysician i f
inflammatio n or sore ness develo ps.
