DESCRIPTION: These aluminum valley cover plates are designed to cover the lifter valley on Big Block Chevy engines equipped with
Edelbrock Big Victor 3 cylinder heads. Part number 77730 is for use with standard (9.800”) deck height engine blocks while part number
77732 is for use with tall (10.2”) deck height engine blocks. Part number 77739 a raw version with an extra thick flange allowing custom
deck heights to be accommodated. These valley plates are intended for blocks with a 4.84” bore spacing.
In addition to covering the lifter valley, this cover completes the cross flow coolant recovery system unique to the BV3 cylinder heads. By
drawing water from individual cylinders and combining them together at the thermostat housing, more uniform cooling of the cylinders
is achieved and more consistent cylinder to cylinder performance can be accomplished. A thermostat housing may be used for radiator
return or, if a fill neck is used, a boss on the front can be drilled for a pipe thread fitting.

1. Be sure that the mating surfaces of the block and the surface of the cylinder heads that will meet the valley cover are
thoroughly clean and free of any oils or debris before installation. Use alcohol or lacquer thinner on a lint-free rag to clean.
2. Apply a continuous, 1/8” bead of automotive RTV silicone sealer to the end sealing surfaces on block and along bottom of
the intake flange on the cylinder heads where they will meet the valley cover.
3. Pay special attention to the corners of the cylinder heads where they meet the end seal surfaces (Use a bit more silicone
here).
4. Position the valley cover in place on the engine and install the bolts (not included) with washers (not included).
5. Tighten bolts in a crisscross pattern, starting in the center and working your way to the ends until all bolts are snug tight.
6. Place the intake manifold in position and torque manifold bolts following the factory torque spec and sequence.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
NOTE: Installation of these valley plates requires eight (8) 5/16” bolts per side for a total of 16. Bolts are not included.
