Quick Start Guide
Suspending the KLA Series Loudspeakers
WARNING!: Read and follow these instructions carefully. If the loudspeakers are not suspended properly, they could fall,
causing personal injury and damage to the equipment.
Rules for Suspension
• Consultaprofessionalmechanicalorstructuralengineer,licensedinthejurisdictionofthesoundsysteminstallation,toreview,verify,andapprove
allattachmentstothebuildingorstructure.
• Employtheservicesofacertiedprofessionalriggerforhoisting,positioning,andattachingtheequipmenttothesupportingstructure.
• Correctuseofallsuspensionhardwareandcomponentsisimperativeinsoundsystemsuspensionanddeployment.
• Alwayscalculatesuspendedloadsbeforeliftingtomakesuresuspensioncomponentsandhardwareareusedwithintheirrespectiveloadlimits.
• Consultlocalcodesandregulationstofullyunderstandtherequirementsforsuspendedloadsinthevenueinwhichyouwillsuspend
theequipment.
• UseonlytheKLAAF12ArrayFrameortheM10installationpointsforsuspendingthearray.
• Beabsolutelycertainoftheintegrityofanystructuralmemberintendedtosupportsuspendedloads.Hiddenstructuralmemberscanhavehidden
structuralweakness.
• Neverassumeanything!Ownerorthird-partysuppliedsuspensionattachmentpointsmaynotbeadequateforsuspendingtheloads.
• Beforelifting,alwaysinspectallcomponents(enclosures,suspensionbrackets,pins,frames,bolts,nuts,slings,shackles,etc.)forcracks,wear,
deformation,corrosion,missing,loose,ordamagedpartsthatcouldreducethestrengthoftheassembly.Discardanyworn,defective,orsuspect
partsandreplacethemwithnewappropriatelyload-ratedparts.
Shock Loading
Whenaloadiseithermovedorstopped,itsstaticweightismagnied.Suddenmovementscanmagnifythestaticweightseveraltimes.This
magnicationofstaticweightiscalled"shockloading".Shockloadingposesadangertoequipmentandworkers.Theeffectsofshockloadingcanbe
instantaneous,ormayremainundetectedunlesstheequipmentisvisuallydamaged.Properpreparationforshockloadingrequirescarefulplanning
andknowledgeofequipment,suspension,andliftingpractices.
Shockloadingofequipmentandstructuresisusuallyconnedtoliftingandinstallation,butnaturalforces(winds,earthquakes,andsoon)canimpose
shockloadsseveraltimesthestaticload.Becauseofthis,structuresandsuspensionequipmentmustbecapableofsupportingseveraltimesthe
weightofthesuspendedequipment.
