Remove the diffuser & trim from the base by rotating anti-
clockwise to unlatch then pull away.
Loosen the three gear tray retaining screws, rotate the gear
tray anti-clockwise to align the screw heads with the large
aperture of the keyhole slots & remove the gear tray
away from the base. There is a retaining strap to assist with
installation.
Prepare the mains supply cable & fixing points on the chosen
mounting surface ensuring it is able to retain the weight of
the luminaire.
Pass the mains supply cable through the hole & grommet
provided in the base, position the base to the mounting
surface & secure using the screws provided.
It is the installer’s responsibility to ensure the fixing points
& cable entry point are appropriately sealed to maintain
the IP54 rating. Silicone bathroom sealant or equivalent is
recommended.
Route the mains supply cable to the terminal block on the
gear tray & terminate ensuring correct polarity is observed.
WARNING: THIS LUMINAIRE MUST BE EARTHED.
It is important that supply cables fitted to luminaires with an
electronic ballast do not run adjacent to leads connected to
the ballast output terminals so as not to affect radio
frequency interference suppression.
Secure the supply cable using the clamp provided in the base.
Refit the the gear tray & secure by retightening the screws.
Refit the diffuser & trim by placing over the base & rotating
clockwise until it locks into position.
Reconnect power supply & check for correct operation.

Further Instructions for Emergency version
In addition to the above instructions, a secondary “un-switched” live supply should be fed to the luminaire, in line
with the “switched” mains supply. This “un-switched” supply MUST be taken from the same phase as the
“switched” supply & MUST be wired at the switchboard so that upon test, it is isolated at the same time as the
“switched” supply.
Route to the terminal block & terminate, ensuring correct polarity is observed.
Connect the battery supply to the module by joining the connectors, ensuring correct polarity is observed.
When power supply is reconnected, check the green LED fitted to the luminaire illuminates. This indicates that the
batteries are charging.
The batteries should be allowed to charge for at least 24 hours before carrying out a full discharge test to check
batteries are charging correctly & maintained duration is being achieved.
OPERATION / MAINTENANCE
Cleaning should be carried out at regular intervals so as not to impair photometric performance or thermal safety of
the luminaire.
Excessive & prolonged operation in emergency mode (working from battery supply) will result in lamp ends blackening
& reduction of life.
Average battery life is four years, after which time they should be replaced with a suitable equivalent.
This luminaire MUST be disconnected before the circuit it is installed on is subjected to any high voltage or insulation
resistance testing, otherwise irreparable damage will occur to luminaire components.
When the lamp operates from the battery supply it will be at a reduced light level, so ensure cleanliness of luminaires is
maintained so as not to affect performance.
To maintain full operational status, spare lamps should be held for immediate changing in case of failure.
TESTING FOR EMERGENCY LUMINAIRES
Recommended routine test procedures in line with BS 5266 & BS EN 50172:
Monthly Functional Test
Simulate a mains supply failure by isolating the circuit (ensuring if it is safe to do so) or by way of a test key switch if
fitted into the circuit.
Do this for a period of time sufficient to check that the maintained lamp illuminates.
Once complete, ensure the normal supply is restored & that the LED charge indicator illuminates.
Log result / comments in the Testing Log Book (see next page).
Annual Discharge Test
Simulate a mains supply failure by isolating the circuit (ensuring if it is safe to do so) or by way of a test key switch if
fitted into the circuit.

This should be for the full testing duration period for the luminaire (the reference M3 = Maintained for 3 hours & M1
= Maintained for 1 hour).
Check that the maintained lamp illuminates & remains illuminated for the full testing duration period.
Once complete, ensure the normal supply is restored & that the LED charge indicator illuminates.
Log result / comments on the Testing Log Book (see next page).
Note: BS5266 allows a 1 hour test to be performed as an alternative every 6 months for the first 3 years of the system,
but the guidance document to the Fire Precaution Regulations calls for the annual test at all stages of equipment life.

Positioning
The luminaire with detector should be sited so that the occupants of the room fall inside the detection patterns shown
in the appropriate diagram below.
The diagram is based on a ceiling mounting height of two and a half metres. Note that the lower the sensor is
installed, the smaller the detection range will be.
If wall mounted, the detection zone will vary depending on the surroundings but perpendicular reach will be at least
ten metres.
The area closest to the sensor & also the
area more perpendicular to the sensor will
have higher sensitivity.
The distance quoted are approximate & may
vary depending on surroundings.
Avoid direct sunlight entering the sensor.
Do not site within one metre of forced air
heating or ventilation.
Do not fix to a vibrating surface.
Avoid metallic objects directly in front of
the sensor head.
These sensor kits are capable of switching
/ controlling more than one luminaire in a
‘master & slave’ set up. This is done by
linking non-sensored fittings (slaves) to the
one with the sensor fitted (master) using the
live output from the sensor.
NOTE! DO NOT link other fittings containing
MW sensors together in this way, as it can
cause false triggering of the sensors.
Settings
The following adjustments can be made using the three dials located on the sensor
unit. DISTANCE, TIME and LUX are adjustable via three rotatable dials.
1. DISTANCE
Rotate the dial to control the diameter of the detection pattern, from one metre
minimum (fully anti-clockwise) to ten metres maximum (fully clockwise). The LED
setting indicator will flash to indicate the setting selected, e.g. ten flashes = ten
metres diameter.
2. TIME
Rotate the dial to control the length of time the luminaire will stay on after occupancy
has ceased. From ten seconds minimum (fully anti-clockwise) to 30 minutes maximum
(fully clockwise).

The LED setting indicator will flash to indicate the setting selected as follows:
3. LUX
Rotate the dial to control the ambient light level at which the sensor will allow the lamps to switch on. This range from
two lux minimum (fully anti-clockwise) to only switch on when very dark, through to 2000 lux maximum (fully clockwise)
to always switch on regardless of ambient light. Note that the fully clockwise setting should be used to check functionality
on initial installation.

Fault Finding
If you are experiencing a problem please check through the following before making contact with our Customer Services
Department:
Fault - Load does not come on
Check to see if the live supply to the circuit is working.
If the supply & wiring are good, check the LUX setting. Increase the LUX level setting to allow the sensor to turn on at
a higher ambient light level (rotate dial clockwise).
Fault - Load does not go off
Ensure that the area is left unoccupied for longer than the selected timer setting.
Make sure that the sensor is not adjacent to circulating air, heaters or lamps.
If the unit “false triggers” reduce the DISTANCE level to narrow the area of detection (rotate dial anti clockwise).
