Series 500
Air Cleaners
2PERFORMANCE OVERVIEW
SPECIFICATIONS
The Dust Free Series 400 and 500 systems were designed to meet the needs of people who are
adversely affected by indoor airborne pollutants. Tobacco smoke, dust, pollen, mold, odors, and
chemicals exist in various environments and each require a specific filtration process to provide
the needed air quality. Realizing that different people have different sensitivities and therefore
different filtration needs, the Series 400 and 500 room air cleaners are designed to collect a
variety of particulate, odor, and chemical pollutants.
The Series 400 and 500 are simple to operate and require little maintenance. Simply plug in the
power cord and turn it on. No tools are required to change the filtration media in either unit. Wood
vinyl cabinet can be maintained with common furniture cleaners. Congratulations and enjoy your
new Dust Free room air cleaner!

BEFORE OPERATING
OPERATION
1. Remove the plastic wrapping from the charcoal filter.
2. On the Series 500 attach the casters.
3. Place the unit in the desired location.
4. Plug unit into a power outlet supplying proper voltage.
The Series 400 and 500 room air cleaners filter the air by using an internal blower that “pulls” the
dirty air through its filters and discharging the clean air through a vent in the top of the unit. The
Dust Free air cleaners employ a three-stage filtering process to remove a wide variety of
contaminants from the air. First, the prefilter removes larger particles that are easily captured.
Second, the HEPA-type filter removes the microscopic particles as small as 0.3 micron. And
third, the activated charcoal filter captures odors and chemicals that may be present.
The Series 400 and 500 operate independent from your HVAC system. For best results the units
should be operated continuously.

MAINTENANCE

CLEANING THE PRE-FILTER
CHANGING THE HEPA-TYPE FILTER
CHANGING THE CHARCOAL FILTER
CLEANING THE CABINET
The pre-filter should be cleaned every 30 to 60 days, depending on the environment.
1. Remove the pre-filter from the unit by grasping the filter and pulling it away from the unit.
2. Clean away lint buildup by shaking or vacuuming the filter.
3. Wash the filter with a mild detergent or cleaner(409, Fantastic, etc.) then rinse with clear water.
4. Allow pre-filter to dry thoroughly before placing it back into the unit.
The HEPA-type filter cannot be cleaned, it must be replaced. Service life of the HEPA-type filter
is dependent on the environment but the filter should last about two years in the average home.
Change the filter if there is obvious discoloration on the discharge side of the filter or there is little
difference in air flow between the units Hi and Lo settings.
1. Unplug the unit.
2. Grasp the pre-filter and remove it from the unit(Series 400 only).
3. Raise the lid(Series 500 only).
4. Remove the fastening bracket(Series 500 only).Slide out the HEPA-type filter and replace it
with the new filter.
5. Replace the pre-filter(Series 400 only).
The charcoal filter should be replaced every 4 to 9 months depending on the environment. The
charcoal filter must be replaced, it cannot be cleaned. To replace the charcoal filter follow the
steps for HEPA-type Filter Replacement but change the charcoal filter instead of the HEPA-type
filter.
The wood vinyl finish of the Series 400 and 500 is very durable and only needs occasional care.
Cleaning with common furniture cleaners and polishes should maintain the finish for many years
to come.
