The hook of the safety line is attached to a suitable place during every action.
5. Preparation of the Rescue Carriage
The IMMOOS rescue carriage type SS1 / SS2 is mainly used for rescuing persons on ropeways.
4.1 Braking and Safety
The IMMOOS rescue carriage type SS1 / SS2 enables a rescuer to reach the occupied cable car vehicle along the rope (stran-
ded rope) during a ropeway rescue.
Version 1:
The rescue carriage type SS1 mGB / SS1-Twin / SS2 mGB has automatic brakes (centrifugal and dead man's brake). It is admit-
tet for maximum 105% rope inclination.
Version 2:
The rescue carriage type SS1 oGB does not have automatic brakes. It is admittet for maximum 50% rope inclination.
Securing with a retaining rope is not necessary.
4.2 Description
The rescue carriage basically consists of:
- A body with a drive braking roller, guide roller and counter-pressure roller.
- A centrifugal brake for limiting the speed at approx. 1.8 m/s. (only version 1)
- A dead man's brake which is activated automatically when releasing the dead man's brake lever.
- A foldable suspension as connection to the lower part.
- Quick release pin on both sides for adjusting the correct rope diameter.
- A handbrake with counter-pressure roller for mechanical braking.
- Turning handle to adjust the brake, acting on the counter-pressure roller
- A suspension with 3 fixing points for the rescuer and materials.
- Suspension line (safety line 2 m with rope shortener Grillon and 2 karabiners)
- Descent and ascent aid with 1 karabiner
Accessory options:
- Hand cranks
- Battery-driven hand drill with special bolts
- 2. Suspension for rescuer (rope sling 24 cm and karabiner)
The "rescuer on the rope" is protected against falling by means of the additional safety line attached to the rope with a hook.
4. Application and Description
7
The rescuer secures the IMMOOS rescue carriage type SS1 / SS2 on the safety harness using the laterally adjustable
stay rope 2 m (chapter 3, position 3).
The lower quick release pin of the foldable suspension is removed on one side and the lower part swung away.
The device is mounted onto the rollers over the rope (stranded rope) and then the lower suspension is swung back and
locked using the quick release pin.
The counterpressure roller is pressed lightly against the rope with the brake lever and the catch engages with the too-
thed insert. Then lock the device in place with the deadman’s brake.
The counterpressure roller can also be braked if needed through the locking screw.
The rescue carriage is thus attached to the rope. The dead man's brake and braked counter-pressure roller prevent
the rescue carriage from driving away.
The hook of the safety line is attached to a suitable place during every action.
6. Mounting the rescue carriage
Pay attention to correct direction of motion (directional arrow) of the rescue carriage.
The upper quick release pin is used for limiting the foldable suspension.
If the rope diameter is almost at the lower limit of a range and the rollers of the rescue carriage are already a little
worn, the next smaller range can be set.
In general, as soon as it has been placed on the rope, the hand brake lever in the device must always have a reserve
downward of at least two to three teeth.
In these cases, the ranges can be used as follows:
SS1 / SS1-Twin SS2
Range: Eective rope diameter: Range: Eective rope diameter:
12 - 24 mm 12 - 27 mm 30 - 46 mm 30 - 50 mm
24 - 44 mm 24 - 48 mm 46 - 64 mm 46 - 68 mm
44 - 60 mm 44 - 60 mm 64 - 75 mm 64 - 75 mm
8
Adjust the device on both sides to the rope diameter by means of the lower quick release pin and
insert the upper quick release pin as a stop.

When mounting the rescue carriage, make sure that the counterpressure roller is pressed slightly
onto the rope with the brake lever and the catch engages with the toothed insert.
The locking screw, if needed, is turned only until the roller is not completely blocked.
If the counterpressure roller is blocked, the danger exists that the rubber will be damaged and the
counterpressure roller will lose its function.
The rescuer climbs to the device using the descent and ascent aid, shortens the stay rope to the minimum using the
rope shortener Grillon and attaches himself/herself to the stay rope below the rescue carriage.
For the rescuer’s own safety, the hook of the additional stay rope is hanged on the overhead car cable (stranded
cable). This should be adjusted so that it runs loosely over the cable when moving and has no braking eect. But it
should also be made only as long as necessary.

Ascending to the tower
Attach the fall arrest device to the wire rope.
11
The hook of the safety line is always attached to an appropriate place during every operation.
Adjust the rope diameter with the quick release pins.
Remove a ball lock pin with
T-handle so that the lower part
flips open and the device can be
mounted on the ropeway.
Tilt the carriage slightly down-
ward until the lower part is
against the stop bolt and the
lower ball lock pin can be inserted
again.
Press the hand brake lever down-
ward until all rollers lie on the rope
and the catch engages at the too-
thed insert. Then lock the device in
place with the deadman‘s brake.
Hang the hook of the stay rope on
the haul rope and push it to the
SS1 / SS2. Using the ascending
and descending aid, get down
from the platform.
Shorten the length of the stay rope until the hook is still free and cannot follow after the haul rope
outside the brake lever.
12
The hook of the safety line is attached at a suitable place during every action.
During the run, all (three) rollers must stay constantly on the rope.
During the first action, the locking screw is screwed onto the counter-pressure roller, depending on the inclination of
the rope, to the point that the roller can rotate.
With your right hand, grab the black handle of the brake lever and place your thumb on the pushbutton so that an
accidental actuation of the pushbutton is not possible.
With the left hand, push the deadman’s brake forward until the brake pad is slightly above the overhead car cable
(stranded cable).
During the run, the hand brake may be opened only so far that the catch remains engaged in the toothed insert and
the valley-side (white) roller lies firmly on the rope.
7. Travelling with the Rescue Carriage Type SS1 / SS2, Sloping Rope
The speed at the IMMOOS carriage typ SS1 / SS2 mGB (Version 1) is regulated by the automatic centrifugal brake
(max. approx. 1.8 m/s).
The speed at the IMMOOS cariage typ SS1 oGB (Version 2) is limited by the handbrake lever and the counter-pressure
with turning handle.
If the hand brake is opened too far during the run, the deadman’s brake will be
ineective.
13
The hook of the safety line must be attached to a suitable place during every
action.
Screw the locking screw on the counter-pressure roller to the point that the roller can rotate
Insert hand cranks (optional) into a free opening of the roller axle.
During travel, the counter-pressure roller must rotate on the rope.
A battery-driven hand drill with special bolts can also be used instead of the hand crank (optional).
2 hand cranks for simulta-
neous assembly left/right
(optional)
Battery-driven hand drill and special bolts
optional
8. Travelling with the Rescue Carriage Type SS1 / SS2, Flat Rope
14
The journey must be stopped before reaching the roller battery or driving up to the stop pad.
The hook of the safety line must be attached to a suitable place during every action.
Stop before the grip of the cable car vehicle.
Before the grip of the cable car or before the roller battery at the cable car tower, the speed is reduced by pulling the
hand brake lever.
The immediate stop takes place by taking the hand o the dead man’s brake.
9. Stopping at the Grip of a Cable Car Vehicle or Pulley Array
The hook of the safety line must be attached to a suitable place during every action.
The lever of the dead man's brake is folded away upwards.
Before getting o the rescue carriage and changing to the cable car vehicle, the handbrake lever is released slightly
to make it easier to move the device over the grip and take it o the rope (stranded rope).
To move the rescue carriage over the grip of the cable car vehicle, the quick release pin with T-grip is pulled out from
the inner side of the grip.
The lower part of the rescue carriage is swung away and the rescue carriage is brought to the other side over the
stop pads and grip.
After that, the lower part is folded together and the suspension is locked with the quick release pin.
10. Moving the Rescue Carriage at the Grip of the Cable Car Vehicle
15
The rope grip is driven over when the device is open.
The hook of the safety line must be attached to a suitable place during every action.
11. Taking the Rescue Carriage o the Rope
If the rescue carriage is taken o the rope, the quick release pin with T-grip is pulled out from one side.
The lower part of the rescue carriage is swung away and the rescue carriage is removed from the rope.
16
12. Storage
Store the IMMOOS rescue carriage type SS1 / SS2 in a dry area without extreme temperature fluctuations.
Always dry naturally, i.e. never near fire or other sources of heat.
Avoid contact with acids, corrosive liquids and oils.
After use or if dirty, the IMMOOS rescue carriage type SS1 / SS2 must be cleaned if necessary. Blow
out the centrifugal brake with compressed air.
Always be sure to spray cogwheels with "Interflon Fin Super" before storing.
13. Inspection, Cleaning, Maintenance and Repair
As we all know, emergency ropeway rescues are seldom. As a result, the IMMOOS rescue carriage type SS1 is used
very little (except for the exercises required by law).
For this reason, the following time periods for inspection, cleaning, maintenance and repairs must be observed:
- Each time before use Visual examination (inspection) by the user
- At least once per year Examination (inspection) by approved specialist
(Exception Austria: In accordance with Regulation relating to
Operating Material)
- Once the sliding vehicle has travelled Maintenance by the manufacturer
a distance of 10,000 m or by a person authorised by him
or at a minimum every 8 - 10 years
Visual examination (inspection) and cleaning
Each time before using the rescue carriage, it must be examined visually by the user.
After use or if dirty, clean the rescue carriage if required.
Blow out the centrifugal brake with compressed air.
To preserve the cogwheels, lightly oil them with good silicon oil (e.g. weapon oil).
17
Annual examination (inspection)
Examinations (inspections) must be carried out and documented by an approved specialist at least once per year
The annual examination (inspection) basically comprises:
- Completeness check of the rescue carriage
- Visual inspection of all individual parts
- The centrifugal brake must be blown out with compressed air
- To preserve the cogwheels, lightly oil them with good silicon oil (e.g. weapon oil)
- Wearing parts (rubber rollers etc.) must be replaced as required
- Functional test
In cases of doubt, the manufacturer or a person authorized by him must carry out inspection and maintenance.
Maintenance work should be done at a minimum every 10,000 m travelled on the rope or every 8 to 10 years.
The distance travelled must be documented (form attached)
Once the sliding vehicle has travelled a distance of 10,000 m on the rope of after 8 – 10 years at the latest, the IM-
MOOS rescue carriage type SS1 / SS2 must be serviced by the manufacturer or by a person he has authorized.
If there exist several numbers of IMMOOS rescue carriages SS1 / SS2 , we recommend using for training and instruc-
tion purposes always the 1-2 same carriages. Thus the not used carriages have to be checked only at the 10-years
check-up for an annual inspection and a functional check, but not for a revision. Coasts can be saved easily.
Repair
Repair work may only be carried out by the manufacturer or by a person he has authorized.
Damaged or incomplete devices must not be used.
In case of doubt, the rescue carriage must not be used.
