Installation Instructions

These Instructions are an addendum to the

DaVinci Fireplace

Installation Manual

This addendum is only for use with the Indoor / Outdoor Window Kits, replacing

the framing dimensions section and providing addition installation instructions for

the “Extruded Aluminum Window Kit”.

Qualified Installers Only:

 This unit may only be installed by qualified installers.

 We recommend that the sealed glass panel be installed by a qualified

glazier or specially trained ‘Da’ Vinci installer.



InstallationOrder

We strongly recommend having a qualified framer on hand while installing the exterior

window onto a DaVinci custom fireplace. This process requires very precise

measurements. A framer may be required to match the position of the fireplace to the

external framing.



MethodA:ExternalGlassFrameInstalledtoFramingFirst

a) Attachtheexternalglassframetotheexternalframing(useappropriatewindowsillprotectionaround

thewindowopening).

b) Verifytheplatformheightandhowitlinesupwiththeexternalwindowopening.Thismeasurement

mustbeprecise–double‐checkthisdimensionwiththefireplaceandthealignmenttrack.

c) Ifusinganalignmenttrack(thesteelcomponentunderthefireplaceusedtoaligncategory2units),

placeitintopositionandsecureusingonlyafewscrews.Checkthealignmentofthetracktomake

sureitwillpositionthefireplace1/8”fromtheexternalglassframe(+or–1/16”).

‐‐Ifitistooclosetotheexternalframe,thefireplacewillnotfit.

‐‐Ifitistoofarfromtheexternalframe,theexternalglassframewillnotsealtothefireplace.

Youmaywishtoplacethefireplaceonthetrackandnotateitspositiontotheexternalglassframe.If

itisnot1/8”fromtheexternalglassframe(checkall4sides)notatethedimension,removethe

fireplace,thenre‐alignthealignmenttracktothecorrectdimension.

d) Attachthebutylgaskettotheexternalglassframe.

e) Positionthefireplaceontheplatform/alignmenttrack(makesureyouinstallthefireplacefacingthe

correctdirection–thefireplacecontrolsshouldbeaccessibleafterinstallation).

f) Securetheexternalglassframetothefireplace.

g) Installtheremainingexternalglassframecomponents.



MethodB:AttachExternalGlassFrametoFireplaceFirst

a) Lineupthefireplaceplatformwiththeexternalopening.Makesuretoleavetheexternalopening

toolarge(minimum6”inalldirections).

b) Verifytheplatformheightandhowitlinesupwiththeexternalwindowopening.Thismeasurement

mustbeprecise–double‐checkthisdimensionwiththefireplaceandthealignmenttrack.

c) Attachthebutylgaskettotheexternalglassframe.

d) Securetheexternalglassframetothefireplace.

e) Positionthefireplaceontheplatform/alignmenttrack(makesureyouinstallthefireplacefacingthe

correctdirection–thefireplacecontrolsshouldbeaccessibleafterinstallation)..Beforesecuringthe

fireplace/alignmenttracktotheplatform,verifytheexternalwindowlinesupwiththeexternalwall

framingandsheathing.Youmayneedtoalterthe“front/back”alignmentslightlytoaligntheexternal

glassframe.

f) Installtheremainingexternalwallframing/sheathing(useappropriatewindowsillprotectionaround

thewindowopening).NOTE:Becausetheframeisattachedbeforetheframing,youmayneedtotuck

theframing/sheathingunderthewindowledges.

g) Installtheremainingexternalglassframecomponents.





 Fireplacemustbeplaceddirectlyonwoodornon‐combustiblesurface(notonlinoleumorcarpet).

 Fireplaceshouldbelocatedoutoftrafficandawayfromfurnitureanddraperies.

 Fireplacemaybeplacedinabedroom.



The3/16”butylsealcomessuppliedonaroll.Toattachtheseal,startatthecenterbottomoftheframeand

attach,lininguptheedgeofthetapewiththeoutsideedgeofthealuminumframelip.



Note:Makesurethebutyltapedoesnotcoveranyofthemountingholesinthealuminumframeasthiscould

causedamagetothesealbywrappingaroundthemountingscrewduringattachment.



Caution:

Butyltapeisstickyandwilladhereoncontact,takecaretoattachinthecorrectpositionbefore

applying.



Butylsealattachment:

 Usingdenaturedalcoholcleanaluminumframeattachmentarea(avoidfingerprints).

 Startatbottomcenterofframeandapplyinglightpressure,unrollthe1/16”butyltapetoforma

continuousseal(donotremovebackingpaperatthispoint).

 Checkandmakesureallmountingholesareclear.

 Presstapefirmlyintoplace.



ColdClimatetip:

Ifinstallingundercoldconditionsthebutyltapemaybecomerigidandhardertohandle.Ifthisisthecase

warmthetapeslightlywithaheatgun(donotoverheat).Ifthealuminumframeiscoldittoowillbenefit

fromaslightwarmingtohelpthetapeadhere.


