SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS
Read and follow manufacturer instructions carefully. Fol-
low all local electrical codes during installation. All wiring
must conform to local and national electrical codes. Improper
wiring or installation may damage thermostat.
Understand the signal words — DANGER, WARNING,
and CAUTION. DANGER identifies the most serious hazards
which will result in severe personal injury or death.
WARNING signifies hazards that could result in personal
injury or death. CAUTION is used to identify unsafe practices,
which would result in minor personal injury or product and
property damage.
Recognize safety information. This is the safety-alert
symbol ( ). When this symbol is displayed on the unit and in
instructions or manuals, be alert to the potential for personal
injury. Installing, starting up, and servicing equipment can be
hazardous due to system pressure, electrical components, and
equipment location.
GENERAL
The branch box accessory for the mini VRF (variable refrig-
erant flow) system allows the connection of multiple indoor
units to an outdoor unit. Each branch box allows 4 indoor unit
connections. The accessory is available for use with the mini
VRF (variable refrigerant flow) system units listed in Table 1.
See Fig. 1 for branch box dimensions. Figure 2 shows an ex-
ample installation.

INSTALLATION
Install the branch box between outdoor unit and indoor units.
Branch boxes must be mounted indoors; they are not approved
for outdoor installation. Branch boxes must not be connected
in series. Figure 3 summarizes branch box installation.
Piping to Indoor and Outdoor Units — Mini-
mum straight pipe lengths are shown in Fig. 4 and summarized
below:
The distance between the outdoor unit and the nearest
pipe bend must be greater than 40 inch.
The distance between the branch box input connection
and the nearest pipe bend must be greater than
40 inch.
The distance between the branch box output connection
and the nearest pipe bend must be greater than
20 inch.
The distance between an indoor unit and and the nearest
pipe bend must be greater than 20 inch.
Maximum pipe lengths and elevation differential are shown
in Fig. 5.
CONNECTING PIPING Hand-tighten nuts, then tighten
with wrench. Do not exceed the torque limits shown in Table 2.
Table 2 — Torque Limits
Use the adapters provided to connect smaller piping to larg-
er piping, placing a seal (provided) between the adapters. See
Fig. 6. Seal and cap any unused inlet pipes as shown in Fig. 7.
Drain Piping — When installing drain piping, keep the
following points in mind:
The drainpipe from the branch box must be tightly insu-
lated to prevent condensation.
Prevent water backflow into the branch box during shut
down by installing the pipe with downward gradient
greater than 1 in. per 100 inches.
Do not allow the drain pipe to bend or pull on the branch
box. Instead, place pipe supports every 30 in. to
40 inch.
See Fig. 8.
ROTATING DRAIN CONNECTION — The drain connec-
tion on the branch box can be rotated as needed, either before
or after installation. See Fig. 9.
