Connecting the Camera
Both the HD and SD variants of the MKIV
camera have a 12 pin Binder male which
carries all power and control signals.
The MKIV H also has a BNC female
connector for the HD-SDI video out signal.
The image on the right shows the camera’s
12 pin Binder male connector.
The power/comms cable has several connections:
12 pin Binder female
D-Type for comms and
DC power input
RCA jack for composite
video out
To start using the MKIV follow these steps:
1. Plug the mains power supply into a wall
socket.
2. Insert the Power/Comms cable into the 12
pin binder connector on the base of the
camera, as shown in the image on the right.
Ensure the connector lugs are aligned before
pressing it home gently.
3. HD Variant - Connect the HD-SDI video out
BNC connector to a suitable video monitor
using a BNC cable.
4. SD Variant - Connect the RCA jack to a suitable
video monitor.
5. Apply power to the camera by inserting the
plug on the end of the mains power supply
into the socket on the rear of the D-Type
connector.

The MKIV camera supports serial communication control over RS232 and RS485. It supports PelcoD,
PelcoP Sony Visca & Panasonic protocols.
The user may choose to use a software controller of their choice or use the VE Camera Controller.
This software application is included on the USB memory stick in the kit. It can also be downloaded
from the Visual Engineering website:
www.visualengineering.co.uk/support
The user should install the Software application on a PC. The image below shows what the software
application looks like.

It is necessary to connect a USB to serial comms lead to the PC. The operating system of the
computer will allocate this a COM port number.
Once this connection between the comms lead and the computer’s operating system has been
made the user can go ahead and connect the application to the COM port. In the example below
the port COM3 has been selected. Now select Connect.
Now that the software application is connected to the comms lead the functions of the software
can be used. In the example below the pan right command has been selected. This will cause the
MKIV camera to pan right. Similar commands for pan left, tilt up & down and zoom functions can
also be tried out using the intuitive software user interface.

Both the MKIV H and MKIV D cameras have a
12 pin Binder connector that carries all power
and comms signals.
The pinout for this connector is detailed in the
table on the right.
The D-Type connector which is part of the
power/comms cable is wired to connect directly
to a controlling PC. The D-Type pinout detailed
in the table below is consistent with this.
