3 Installation
uOnly use the enclosed modules and seals.
uProtect device and cable against destruction.
uAvoid electrostatic charging on plastic housings and cables.
uTo avoid electrostatic charging, ensure the equalisation of potential of metal parts (connector
housing, fixing elements, protective housing, etc.).
uOnly open or close M12 fittings in a sufficiently clean environment.
uTo avoid soiling, do not remove the dust caps from the cable glands or the plugs until introducing
the cables or attaching the socket.
uDo not mount the device in the dust flow.
uAvoid dust deposits on the product.
Further information Ò Operating instructions.
3.1 Special conditions for safe operation
uFor devices with terminal chamber (cable gland) and cable devices, ensure sufficient strain relief or
lay the cable firmly.
uAvoid direct exposure to high levels of UV light (sunlight). Mount the device in a protected place.
The housing and housing parts made of plastic have been tested in accordance with EN 60079-0 for
group II and for a low mechanical risk with an impact energy of 4 joules.
uUse ifm sockets EVC**A with Ex certificate (certificate number BVS 08 ATEX E 109 U).
uSecure the sockets by tightening the coupling nut sufficiently according to the requirements of the
socket.
uDo not separate the connector when energized.
uApply a durable warning in suitable form close to the connector reading: “Do not separate when
energized” or use the enclosed label to ensure a durable marking.

4 Electrical connection
The unit must be connected by a qualified electrician.
uObserve the national and international regulations for the installation of electrical equipment.
The AS-i (US) / AUX (UA) circuits are insulated from each other and from device surfaces that could be
touched with basic insulation according to IEC 61010-1 (secondary circuit with max. 32 V DC, supplied
from the mains circuit up to 300 V of overvoltage category II).
4.1 Voltage supply / fuse
Observe the maximum current rating of the M12 connections (→ tech. data)
ATTENTION
No current limitation within the unit.
wIf the M12 connectors are overloaded (overcurrent), damage to the unit or fire is
possible.
wEach supply connection AS-i + / AUX + (AS-i operation) or + 24 V DC (US) / + 24 V DC
(UA) (IO-Link operation) must be limited to the values of the technical data (current
consumption) by external measures.
uDevice protected.

5 Maintenance, repair and disposal
uMaintenance intervals are application-specific and therefore need to be defined by the operator
depending on the operating conditions.
uDuring maintenance, examine especially those parts on which the type of protection depends (e.g.
integrity of the components of the cable gland, of the seals).
uCarry out cleaning considering the technical data (protection rating) and the connection technology
used.
uCleaning agents must be checked by the system manufacturer / operator for their suitability for the
device materials (→ Technical data) and the connection technology used.
uThe cleaning agents must not damage the device materials.
No modifications or repairs may be made to the device.
uIn case of a fault please contact the manufacturer.
uAfter use, dispose of the unit in an environmentally friendly way in accordance with the applicable
national regulations.
uIf required, request data sheets and EU declarations of conformity / certificates from the
manufacturer (Ò cover sheet / back).
