Adept Medical STARTable is a stable work surface that provides added X-ray scatter protection for clinicians during trans-radial angiography and revascularisation procedures. It is designed to complement Adept Medical’s STARBoard product and forms part of the STARSystem, however it can also be used independently. The STARTable is made up of two components: the carbon fibre lower section (including a shield containing 0.5mm lead) and the adjustable carbon fibre shelf. The STARTable can be used without the STARBoard, but the STARBoard is recommended.

Support for Trans-radial Angiography and Revascularisation
This guide describes the correct set-up and use of Adept Medical’s STARTable, a product used during trans-radial
catheterisation procedures.
The STARTable is made up of two components. The carbon fibre lower section (including shield containing 0.5mm
lead) and the adjustable carbon fibre shelf are illustrated in Figure 1. Please note: Some of the photographs in this
document show a previous transparent version of the shelf. The functionality is the same.
Intended Use
The STARTable provides a stable work surface and added X-ray scatter protection for clinicians during trans-radial
angiography and revascularisation procedures. These procedures are carried out by Interventional Cardiologists or
Interventional Radiologists. STARTable is designed to complement Adept Medical’s STARBoard product and forms
part of the STARSystem, however it can also be used independently. Figure 3 shows the product in use during a
procedure while Figures 4a and 4b illustrate positioning on the patient.
Before use
Ensure that the product is clean and that there is no visible damage to the product.

Placement of the STARTable
1. Align the centre of the STARTable so that it is
approximately between the hip and knee of the
patient as shown in Figure 6.
Slide the lower carbon fibre section beneath the
mattress so it sits on top of the x-ray table and
comes to rest against its vertical wall (see Figures
5, 6 and 7).
The weight of the patient on the mattress will
support the STARTable.
The vertical wall will sit between the patients arm and the x-ray table as shown in Figure 7.
The overhanging portion of the vertical wall allows for the STARTable to be positioned as far towards the
patient’s feet (and possibly over the controls) as is necessary.
2. Attach the shelf to the STARTable by locating the keyhole features over the blue coloured spigots on the vertical
wall and slide down until the shelf comes to rest. See Figures 5b, 5c, 6b and 8.

3. At this point the STARBoard can be installed if it has not been already. Note: The STARTable can be used
without the STARBoard however the STARBoard is recommended.
4. Once the patients arm and wrist is positioned as desired, the shelf can be adjusted by sliding it along the blue
spigots as illustrated in Figure 5c. See Figures 9 and 10 for examples of the procedural position.
5. Drape the patient and perform other patient preparation as per hospital/clinic protocol. The drapes will cover
the STARTable (refer to Figure 11). The shelf can still be adjusted beneath the drapes as required.
At the end of procedures
6. Remove the drape
7. Remove the shelf from the STARTable. Note: It is not necessary to remove the shelf prior to extracting the
STARTable from under the mattress.
8. Slide the lower carbon fibre section out from under mattress.
Cleaning
The STARTable can be cleaned as per your standard hospital/clinical protocol for similar apparatus. It should be
sprayed and/or wiped down with a suitable cleaning agent. Do not Autoclave!
