Sanyo FXD-RR1 is a high-power FM/AM stereo receiver with a compact disc player. It features a detachable front panel for anti-theft purposes, a digital display, and a variety of sound and display adjustment options. The receiver can store up to 30 radio stations and has a built-in clock with ignition-off recall. The CD player is compatible with CD-R/RW media and supports scan, shuffle, and repeat play modes. The receiver also has a built-in equalizer with presets for various music genres. Additionally, it has a loudness function to enhance the bass response at low volume levels.

CAUTION

• This unit is designed to operate on 12 volts DC, NEGATIVE ground electrical systems only.

• When fuse replacement is necessary, use only a 10 amp fuse. Do not replace with a higher rated fuse. If

the fuse blows often, carefully check all electrical connections for any short circuits and have your car’s

voltage regulator checked also.

• Do not install the unit where it will be exposed to direct sunlight or hot air discharged from the car heater.

• Do not expose the unit to water or moisture.

•To avoid damaging the unit, never insert anything other than a compact disc into the disc slot.

• This unit should not be adjusted or repaired by anyone except qualified service personnel.

If servicing is required, return the unit to an authorized SANYO mobile audio dealer.

• Use the Controls or adjustments or performance of procedures other than those specified herein may

result in hazardous radiation exposure.

• Changes or modifications not expressly approved by SANYO may void the uses’s authority to operate

this equipment.

•To prevent warping the disc, do not expose

it to direct sunlight, high humidity or high tem-

peratures for extended periods of time.

• Fingerprints and dust should be carefully

wiped off the signal surface of the disc

(glossy side) with a soft cloth.

Wipe in a straight motion from the inside to

the outside of the disc. Unlike conventional

records, the compact disc has no grooves to

collect dust and debris. Small dust particles

will have no effect on reproduction quality.

• Do not insert a disc which is cracked into the

unit.

• Do not apply paper or write anything on the

surface of the disc.

• Do not use non-conventional discs such as

heart- shaped, octagonal discs, etc.

The player could be damaged.

Benzene Thinner Cleaning spray

• Never use chemicals such as record clean-

ing sprays, antistatic sprays or fluids, ben-

zene or thinner to clean compact discs.

These chemicals will permanently damage

the plastic surface of the disc.

• When not using the disc player for extended

periods of time, remove the compact disc and

return it to the plastic storage case. This will

protect the disc from dust and exposure to

the sun.

• This unit has been designed to play compact

discs bearing the identification logo shown

on the left. No other discs can be played.

COMPACT DISC CARE

Dirt, dust, scratches and warpage can cause a deterioration in the sound or intermittent skipping some

tracks during play.

Recommended CD-R/RW Media

Data may not be properly written to CD-R/RW media depending on the quality of the media.

If this happens, the data may not be reproduced correctly. We recommend the following

manufacturers to insure proper quality of the media.

DETACHABLE FRONT PANEL

The front panel is designed to be removable for antitheft purposes.

It is recommended that you remove and carry the front panel with you when you leave your car.

HOW TO ATTACH THE FRONT PANEL

Place hole A of the front panel onto the spindle B on the unit, then lightly push the right side in.

HOW TO DETACH THE FRONT PANEL

Remove the CD from the unit, if any, and turn off the power of the unit.

Press the OPEN button, then slide the front panel to the left, and gently pull out the right end of the front

panel.

CAUTION

• Do not attempt to remove the panel in a manner other than that described

above.

• When installing the front panel, do not force it into the unit.

• Do not touch the connection terminals of the panel or the unit. It may cause

poor contact.

• Use a clean, dry cloth when cleaning the terminals.

• Keep the panel out of direct sunlight and high temperatures.

• Prevent the panel from coming into contact with benzene, thinner, or in-

secticides.

• Do not drop the panel.

GENERAL OPERATION

TURNING THE POWER ON........................................1

Install the front panel and press the PWR MUTE button 1 when ACC is on.

TURNING THE POWER OFF............................................................. 1

Press the PWR MUTE button for more than 2 seconds. Display will revert to clock indication.

When you turn on the unit, “ Hello ” will be displayed then “ Welcome ” will momentarily be displayed before

actual power on.

When you turn off the unit, “ See You ” will be displayed then “ Good-Bye ” will momentarily be displayed

before actual power off. You can edit these messages. (See page 12 “TURN ON/OFF MESSAGE EDIT”).

VOLUME LEVEL CONTROL.......................................2

Rotate the VOLUME dial 2 to adjust the volume level.

MUTING THE SOUND.......................................................................... 1

Press the PWR MUTE button 1 while the receiver is on. To restore the previous volume level, press PWR

MUTE button again.

SETTING THE CLOCK........................................3,1,2

The clock uses a 12-hour display system.

1. Repeatedly press the MENU button 3 to display “ Clock adj. ” .

2. Press the PWR MUTE button 1 to enter the clock adjustment mode.

3. Press the following button/dial to set the clock.

PWR MUTE 1 : To switch hour/minute blink.

VOLUME dial 2 : Adjust the hour and minutes.

4. Press the MENU button 3 to activate the clock. After few seconds, the unit returns to previous indication.

IGNITION-OFF CLOCK RECALL ........................................................ 3

Press the MENU button 3 while the ignition switch is in the “ OFF ” position.

The display will illuminate showing the time and then automatically shut off after 5 seconds.

SWITCHING THE SOURCE ...................................4,5

You can connect the auxiliary equipment (Portable cassete player, etc) to this unit. Each time the CD

button 4 is pressed, the operation source will change over as shown below;

Press the BAND ATP button 5 to return to radio mode.

If the CD button 4 is pressed when no CD has been loaded into the unit, The CD mode will skip to the AUX

mode.

Adjust the input volume of the external equipment.

It is displayed only AUX mode.

• Lim vol (Limit volume)

Adjust the volume at the time of power on. You can adjust with the actual sound.

• Mute Lev (Mute level)

You can adjust the mute level with the actual sound.

When an item that is not supported is selected, “ No Name ” is displayed, following which Trk/Time is

displayed.

You can adjust with which priority items are to be displayed in the Sub display. Display priority can be

set for the following 2 items ;

The scroll speed of the display indication can be switched.

Fast

: Fast.

Slow : Slow.

•Scroll type (Display type)

The scroll type of the display indication can be switched.

: Scrolls across the display with pause.

Rolling : Scrolls across the display.

•LV Meter(Level Meter)

The sensitivity of the level meter display can be switched.

0:No meter is indicated.

: The level meter goes upward/downward.

2:The level meter goes up dividing from the center segment.

3:Only the very top segment light.

4:The remaining segments light. (Opposite of 3)

•LV Sens (Level sens)

The sensitivity of the level meter display can be switched.

: Normal sensitivity.

Hi : High sensitivity.

• Contrast

The contrast of the display can be adjusted.

The demonstration of each function is repeatedly shown on the display screen. The demonstration

starts about few seconds after power off.

LOCAL/DISTANT (LO/DX) SELECTION ........................................... 4

This feature is used to select the strength of the signals at which the radio will stop during Automatic

Tuning. Press the BAS-X LO/DX button 4 for more than 2 seconds to select the Local (LO) setting and only

the strongest (local) stations will be received. The “ lo ” indicator appears in the display window.

Pressing again for 2 seconds will select the Distant setting and the radio will stop at a wider range of

signals, including weaker more distant stations. The “ lo ” indicator will go out on the display window.

ENHANCING THE BASS SOUND (BAS-X)....................................... 4

Press the BAS-X LO/DX button 4 to display the BAS-X INDICATOR “

” on the display window.

Each time you press the BAS-X LO/DX button 4, current mode appears on the display window and the

mode change as follows.

BAS-X 0 (No BAS-X enhanced)

Note

Settings for BASS, TREBLE, LOUDNESS and BAS-X can be made to each of

the following modes independently: FM, AM, CD and AUX.

You can edit the turn on/off message and store it in memory. Following four messages can be edit with 11

characters each.

1. Repeatedly press the MENU button 1 to display the “Message” on the display window.

2. Press the PWR MUTE button 2 to flash the “Hello”.

3. Rotate the VOLUME dial 3 to select the desired message you want to edit.

4. Press the PWR MUTE button 2, then enter the character.

A. Rotate the VOLUME dial 3 in a clockwise direction to select the desired characters.

B. Press the TUN/TRK or button 4 to move the flashing cursor.

C. Repeat steps A. and B. to complete entering the entire message.

5. Press the PWR MUTE button 2 to store the message. The new message flashes.

6. To return to the previous indication, Press MENU button 1.

Note

• If you make no button input or dial operation in 30 seconds, the message edit

will turn off automatically.

• Make sure the “ Message ” will be “ on ” .

• When entering a name, pressing the following buttons affects the display of

characters as follows.

: Changes to inputting letters. (Starts with “ A ” or change of a capital letter and a small

letter.)

: Changes to inputting numbers. (Starts with “ 0 ”.)

: Changes to inputting characters. (Starts with “ < ”.)

: Enters a space (blank).

ERASING THE TURN ON/OFF MESSAGE ................1,2,3

You can erase the turn on/off message if so desired.

1. Repeatedly press the MENU button 1 to display the “ Message ” on the display window.

2. Press the PWR MUTE button 2, then rotate the VOLUME dial 3 to select the desired message you want

to erase.

3. Press the PWR MUTE button 2 to flash the first character of the message, then press the MENU button

1 for more than 2 seconds.

4. To return to the previous indication, Press MENU button 1.

Repeat steps 1. and 3. if you want to erase other message.

RADIO OPERATION

SELECTING RADIO MODE ........................................1

Press the BAND ATP button 1 to switch from CD mode to the radio mode.

Each time the BAND ATP button is pressed, the selected band changes as shown below.

• Automatic tuning

Press the TUN/TRK or Button 2.

When the button is pressed, the system will start automatic tuning and stop at the next receivable

station.

• Manual tuning

To select higher frequency station, press the TUN/TRK button 2 for more than 0.5 seconds.

The “ MAN ” indicator appears in the display window.

To select lower frequency stations, press the TUN/TRK button 2 for more than 0.5 seconds.

To quickly scan up or down in frequency, press and hold the TUN/TRK or button 2. Release the

button when the display approaches the desired frequency, then press and release the button repeat-

edly until the desired frequency is displayed.

After 4 seconds of completing Manual Tuning, the tuning control will revert to the Automatic Tuning

mode.

STORING PRESET STATIONS.......................................................... 3

The preset buttons 3 can be used to store 6 stations in each band (FM 1, FM 2, FM T and AM , AM T) for

convenient access to your favorite stations.

• Programming stations

1. Select the desired band, then tune in the station you want to store in memory.

2. Press and hold one of the preset buttons 3 for more than 2 seconds until the frequency indicator flashes

twice. Repeat steps 1. and 2. to program additional stations.

• Quick tuning

Select the desired band, then press one of the 6 preset buttons 3.

ATP (AUTO TRAVEL PRESET) OPERATION ................................... 1

The Auto Travel Preset function searches for and memorizes the 6 strong stations in one of the two bands

(FM T, AM T) in order of signal strength.

This feature is useful when you are driving in an unfamiliar location and want to memorize local stations

without changing the standard preset stations.

A total of 12 stations (6 FM and 6 AM) can be programmed.

•To set the stations

Select the desired band. Press and hold the BAND ATP button 1 for more than 2 seconds.

• Quick tuning of ATP stations

Select the desired band, then press one of the 6 preset buttons 3.

Note

This function is available for FM T and AM T.

SCAN OPERATION ............................................................................ 4

1. Press the BAND ATP button 1 to select the desired band.

2. Press the SC/PS button 4. The system will select and receive each receivable station for 10 seconds.

3. To stop scanning and retain the station currently selected, press the SCAN button 4 again.

PRESET SCAN OPERATION .............................................................. 4

This function scans each of the preset stations stored in the selected band (both manual preset and auto

travel presets).

1. Press the BAND ATP button 1 to select the desired band.

2. Press the SC/PS button 4 for more than 2 seconds. The system will select and receive each receivable

preset station for 10 seconds.

3. To stop scanning and retain the station currently selected, press the SC/PS button 4 again.

STORING THE STATION NAMES/AUX TITLE

You can assign a name to each radio station and store it in memory. As much as 30 station names can be

stored composed with 11 characters each.

1. Tune in a station whose name you want to store.

2. Press the MENU button 1 for more than 2 seconds.

The “ Name edit ” will light then the “_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _” on the display window. The first “ _ ” flashes.

STORING THE AUX TITLE .................................................... 2,1,3,4,5

1. Press the CD button 2 to select the AUX mode.

2. Press the MENU button 1 for more than 2 seconds.

The “ Name edit ” will light then the “_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _” on the display window. The first “ _ ” flashes.

3. Enter the characters.

A. Rotate the VOLUME dial 3 in a clockwise direction to select the desired characters.

B. Press the TUN/TRK or button 4 to move the flashing cursor.

4. Press the PWR MUTE button 5 to store the station name. The station name flashes.

5. To return to the previous indication, Press the MENU button 1.

Note

• If you try to store more than 30 station names, “ **FULL** ” will be displayed.

• If you make no button input or dial operation in 30 seconds, the message edit

will turn off automatically.

• When entering a name, pressing the following buttons affects the display of

characters as follows.

: Changes to inputting letters. (Starts with “ A ” or change of a capital letter and a small

letter.)

: Changes to inputting numbers. (Starts with “ 0 ”.)

DIRECT ACCESS TO MEMORIZED STATIONS VIA St. Call ..... 1,3,5

You can search for the memorized AM & FM station names in the memory.

1. Press the MENU button 1 to display the “ St. Call ” on the display window.

2. Rotate the VOLUME dial 3 to select the desired station name.

3. Press the PWR MUTE button 5 to tune in the desired station.

ERASING THE STATION NAMES ............................................... 1,5,3

1. Tune in any station and press the MENU button 1 for more than 2 seconds.

2. Press the PWR MUTE button 5. The station name or “ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ ” flashing.

3. Rotate the VOLUME dial 3 to select the name of the station that you want to erase. To erase all the

names of the stations, display “ * ALL del * ”.

4. Press the PWR MUTE button 5, then press the MENU button 1 for more than 2 seconds. Repeat steps

3. and 4. if you want to erase other names.

5. To return to the normal radio reception, Press the MENU button 1.

ERASING THE AUX TITLE ............................................................. 2,1

1. Press the CD button 2 to select the AUX mode.

2. Press the MENU button 1 for more than 2 seconds. The first character of AUX title will flashes.

3. Press the MENU button 1 for more than 2 seconds again to erase the AUX title.

1. Press the OPEN button 1 and insert the disc into the CD slot with the labeled side facing up.

2. Close the front panel. Playback begins automatically.

The system remains in CD mode and Disc IN indicator “ ” appears in the display window.

During playback of a CD, the CD running indicator “ ” spins.

Press the eject button to eject a disc located behind flip down front panel.

SWITCHING TO CD MODE................................................................ 2

Press the CD button 2 with the power on to switch from radio mode to CD mode.

When the CD mode is switched on while a disc is loaded, play resumes from the point at which play was

stopped.

When the entire disc has played, the unit returns to the first track and play resumes.

The CD player continues playing the disc until the BAND ATP button 3 is pressed, or the disc is ejected.

SKIPPING TRACKS ........................................................................... 4

Press the TUN/TRK button 4 to skip to the beginning of the next track.

Press the TUN/TRK button 4 to skip to the beginning of the track currently playing.

Press the TUN/TRK button 4 twice to skip to the beginning of the previous track.

Press and hold the TUN/TRK or button 4 for more than 0.5 seconds to search quickly (with sound) in

the forward or reverse direction.

When the button is released, the CD resumes normal play.

Notes

• Some CD-Rs (depending on the equipment used for its recording or the con-

dition of the disc) may not play on this unit.

•You cannot play CD-R that is not finalized. (A finalize process necessary for

a recorded CD-R disc to be played on the audio CD player.)

• The unit will turn-on automatically when a CD is inserted if the ignition switch

is “ON”.

While playing a CD, press the Preset 6 button 5.

To resume playing, press the Preset 6 button again.

REPEAT MODE .................................................................................. 6

Press the Preset 5 (RPT) button 6 to play the current track repeatedly.

The “ RPT ” indicator appears in the display window.

To cancel this mode, press the Preset 5 (RPT) button 6 again.

SHUFFLE MODE................................................................................ 7

This function plays the tracks on a CD in random order.

Press the Preset 4 (SHF) button 7 to begin shuffle play.

The “ SHF ” indicator appears in the display window.

Press the button 4 to select another random track.

To cancel this mode, press the Preset 4 (SHF) button 7 again.

SCAN MODE (PLAYING THE BEGINNING

OF EACH TRACK) ............................................................................. 8

This function plays the first 10 seconds of each track sequentially.

Press the SCN button 8 to begin the scan mode.

The “ SCAN ” indicator appears in the display window.

To cancel this mode, press the SCN button 8 again.
