Introduction
This chapter provides information you should know before using the product.
About the Product
This product is an industrial use, multi controller with diverse uses.
It contains a 600 MHz ARM processor(T.I. Cortex-A8) and 256 MB of DDR2 SDRAM, and is a
platform for the execution of open source applications.
In addition, this product makes use of SD cards, which have excellent cost performance, and it also
supports high-speed and high-capacity SDHC cards as the startup device.
It is equipped with a variety of extension I/O features such as those for display output, analog input,
digital I/O, audio output, LAN, USB2.0, etc.
This product is the best choice for applications which require a greater space-saving and power-saving
controller than the PC.
Features
Powerful execution platform supporting fanless operation
It is a powerful general-purpose execution platform for open source applications equipped with SoC
“AM3517” that incorporates a 600MHz ARM processor (T.I. Cortex-A8) and system memory of
256MB.
Equipped with Linux OS
With Linux OS (Kernel 2.6), it allows users to freely develop applications for diversified fields using
vast amounts of open source resources.
Equipped with a variety of extension I/O features
The product is equipped with an array of extension I/Os including display out, 4-channel analog input
(AI), digital I/O (DIO) of 4 inputs and outputs each, audio output, LAN, and USB2.0.

Handling Precautions
DANGER
- Do not use the product where it may be exposed to flammable or corrosive gas. Doing so may result
in an explosion, fire, electric shock, or failure.
- Do not put or insert metallic substances such as wire rods into USB ports or the SD slot on the
product.
Doing so may result in fire, electric shock, or failure.
CAUTION
- Do not use or store the product in a location exposed to extremely high or low temperature or
susceptible to rapid temperature changes.
Example: - Exposure to direct sun
- In the vicinity of a heat source
- Do not use the product in extremely humid or dusty locations. It is extremely dangerous to use the
product with its interior penetrated by water or any other fluid or conductive dust. If the product
must be used in such an environment, install it on a dust-proof control panel, for example.
- Avoid using or storing the device in locations subject to shock or vibration.
- Do not use or store the product in the vicinity of devices that generate strong magnetic force or
electric waves. Doing so may cause malfunctions (freeze or reboot).
- Do not use or store the product in the presence of chemicals.
- Before inserting/removing an SD card or plugging/unplugging connectors or cables, be sure to
unplug the power cable.
- Do not modify this product. CONTEC will bear no responsibility for any problems or issues
resulting from the modification of this product.
- In the event of failure or abnormality (foul smells or excessive heat generation), unplug the power
cable immediately and contact your retailer.
- To connect with peripherals, use a grounded, shielded cable.
- To clean this product, wipe it gently with a soft cloth dampened with either water or mild detergent.
To prevent peeling or discoloration of paint, do not use chemicals or volatile solvents, such as
benzene or paint thinner.
- Component Life :
Battery-------The internal calendar clock is backed by a Lithium primary battery.
The backup time at a temperature of 25°C with the power disconnected is 10 years or
more.
Contact your retailer about replacing a battery.
* Replacement of expendables is handled as a repair (there will be a charge).
- When connecting cables, first check the shapes of connectors (such as USB connectors), and then
insert them in the correct orientation. After they are connected, do not put too much load on the
connected part. Doing so may result in poor contact or damage to this product and the connected
part.

- Do not touch these product's metal plated terminals with your hands.
Otherwise, this product may malfunction, overheat, or cause a failure.
- It may cause a trouble in recognizing and operating the device according to the kind of USB hub.
If you use the USB hub, we encourage you to take advantage of the CONTECs product loan
service to confirm operation before purchasing.
- The specification of this product is subject to change without notice for enhancement and quality
improvement. Even when using this product continuously, be sure to read the manual of contecs
website and understand the contents.
- Be sure to attach the setup guide to it if handing over this product.
- As for the product with a D-SUB connector, the appropriate tightening torque for the cable

4) USB port
The controller has 2 interface ports compatible with USB2.0 (High/Full/Low Speed).
You can save data by plugging a USB flash drive into the port. Do not use a USB flash memory while
the controller is being operated in an environment where the noise level is high.
The power supply capacity of the USB port is 500mA. When connecting a USB device that draws
high current to this product, check its AMP draw so that the power supply capacity of the power supply
unit will not be exceeded.

The data transfer mode setting switch is used to switch between full duplex and half duplex. Set the
appropriate data transfer mode for the device with which you are communicating. Bits 1 to 6 are used
to set the data transfer mode. SW1 corresponds to Port 0 and SW2 to Port 1. The default is “half
duplex”.

CAUTION
Do not use with bits 1 and 2 both set ON as this may result in damage to this product.
Setting of Terminator
The terminator setting switch controls whether or not a terminator is inserted into each signal line. Set
the terminators on or off in accordance with the devices with which you are communicating. The
terminators on the module are 100
resistors.
Each bit in the switch corresponds to a different signal line: bit 7 for RxD, bit 8 for CTS, bit 9 for TxD,
and bit 10 for RTS.
If you wish to use a terminator of other than 100
, set the terminator switch OFF and insert an external
terminator. The following examples show the status when terminators are inserted/not inserted for
half-duplex and full duplex settings respectively.
