To clean panels, use clean water on a damp cloth.

When assembling northbeam™ BARN BOARD WALL COVER, please handle all the panels and/or

hardware with care to avoid any possibilities of damages and/or injuries.

WHAT IS COVERED

WARRANTY

We warrant the product to be free from defects in material or workmanship for a period of one year

from the date of original retail purchase. The word “defects” is dened as imperfections that impair the

use of the product. Defects resulting from misuse, abuse or customer negligence will void this warranty.

This warranty does not cover commercial use, hardware, acts of nature, re, freezing

and abusive use. This warranty does not cover defects due to alteration or accidents. This

warranty does not cover scratches, scus or other cosmetic damages that may result

from normal use of the product.

WHAT IS NOT COVERED

This material may have a strong natural hemlock wood scent. If this is an issue, it is advised that the

material be aired out in a well ventilated area for 48 hours prior to installation.

MEASURING THE WALL:

PRODUCT CONDITIONING & WALL PREPARATION:

Unwrap the barn board from the packaging & spread

the wood pieces out at in the room that they will be

installed. This allows the wood to adjust to the

temperature and moisture conditions of your room.

Take care when handling the boards not to damage

the edges.

Ensure the wall is clean by wiping it down with a

damp cloth, then letting the surface dry.

Remove any electrical or light switch covers.

Tape-o the surrounding area to prevent it getting

covered in paint.

Paint the wall in a dark colour to help minimize any

show through where gaps may be present.

Measure the length and height of your wall and multiply the

two. You’ll get the total square footage of your wall.

Eg: 12’ x 8’ = 96 sq. ft.

Recommended to measure at both the top and bottom of

the wall and from both ends of the wall (as the wall may not

be perfectly square).

Add 5-10% for waste when cutting and installing the boards.

This will help you determine the quantity of barn board

pieces required to complete your project.

One barn board package covers 51.70 square feet (Note that some patterns are more

elaborate and will require more boards to complete.)

Using a stud nder (or tape measure), level and pencil, nd and layout the studs (draw a line

all the way to the oor).

Measure from the ceiling down to the width of your rst board on both ends. With your level,

draw a line to connect the two points to create your horizontal reference line.

Most houses are not 100% square, so the rst row or starter course must be installed level

depending on whether the desired installation will be horizontal or vertical.

BARN BOARD INSTALLATION:

Prior to installation, arrange the boards for the

desired visual eect on your oor.

Use a level to install the rst row of barn board

at the bottom of the wall, working upwards.

This will reduce any visible installation

variances that may occur if the wall is not

perfectly square.

Complete the entire rst row (starter course)

of barn boards before beginning the rows

above.

Recommended that you use construction adhesive in addition to either nails or screws. In a

zig-zag pattern, apply permanent construction adhesive (following the manufacturer’s

instructions) to the back of each board.

Set the rst board in place along the layout from Step 2 and reinforce it with nails or screws into

the wall stud.

You can either use an air-nailer to face nail the boards OR a hammer and nishing nails, leaving

the nails raised above the face by 1/8”. Then use a nail punch to fully drive in the nails.

Leave a 1/2” - 3/4” buer from the ends and edges of each board before nailing/screwing to

prevent the wood from splitting.

If using screws, it is recommended that you pre-drill each screw hole to avoid splitting the wood.

If you cannot locate the studs, it is recommended you use drywall screws.

For greater holding power and to avoid face nailing you can also use an air-nailer or top nail at a

45-degree angle.

Check that the board ends are square to ensure a smooth and snug t when joining them

together.

Always check that each row is level and square.

If installing the boards vertically, make sure the rst row is perpendicular (90 degrees) to the oor.

Measure out each row and cut each piece as required using an electric or traditional miter saw.

Be sure to check your measurements twice to insure the cut is correct.

You can use touch up paint/stain to touch up each end-cut.

When you have to cut out for a light switch or electrical outlet be sure to leave a half-inch space

around the outlet to allow the cover to be installed ush to the drywall. Alternatively talk to an

electrician to learn how to shut o the power to those outlets.

Remove the cover and the nail or screw holding the electrical box in place against the stud.

Extend the position of the electrical box out the thickness of the accent board 3/8” and re-fasten

the box to the wall stud.

Alternatively you can purchase electrical box extenders or spacers and longer switch plate

screws. Proceed to cut out boards to leave a quarter-inch of space around the outlet – enough for

the cover to conceal the gap.
