Continuity Testing
Notes:
Electrified cabling cannot be used when testing
continuity.
If LED lights appear weak or if the tester unit has
not been used for an extended period, replace
the 9V battery.
When testing an uninstalled patch cable,
the Main and Remote testers may remain
connected. When testing installed cable, the
Remote Tester will need to be removed from
the Main Tester. Connect one end of the cable
to the appropriate connector on the Main
Tester and the other end of the cable to the
appropriate connector on the Remote Tester.
If this is the first time using the product, insert
a 9V battery into the Main Tester unit’s battery
compartment. After inserting the battery,
initiating testing is as simple as connecting
the desired cable and flipping the unit’s On/Off
switch. Turning the switch to the On position
will cause the LEDs to blink fast during testing,
while turning the switch to S will cause LEDs
to blink slow. Otherwise, testing is the same
for both.

Continuity Testing
When a connection is established between
one end of the cable to the other, the Pin
LEDs will flash in succession to indicate the
pins for which a connection is found (see the
bullets below for pin listings). Pins that do not
illuminate for a cable/connector are open.
RJ45 (UTP) – Pins 1 through 8 should be
connected
RJ45 (STP) – Pins 1 through 8 and the
S/G pin should be connected
RJ11 – RJ11 cables can be 2-wire, 4-wire,
or 6-wire. 2-wire RJ11 cables use pins 3
and 4; 4-wire cables use pins 2-5; and
6-wire cables use pins 1-6.
Open Connection
If wires in a cable are not connected from
one end to the other, the Pin LEDs for those
wires will not illuminate on either the Main or
Remote Testers. If only one wire is connected,
none of the Pin LEDs on the Main and Remote
testers will illuminate.

Continuity Testing
No Connection
When a connection cannot be found between
the connectors of a cable being tested, none
of the Pin LEDs on the Main and Remote
Testers will illuminate. As a result, either the
cable is not plugged into the connector on the
Remote Tester or no intact pin connections are
established from one end of the cable to the
other.
Crossed
If cable wires are crossed—such as in a
crossover cable—the Pin LEDs of any pin(s)
where a connection is found will illuminate to
indicate which pins are crossed.
Short
If there is a short in two or more wires, the Pin
LEDs for the corresponding wires will illuminate
on the Main Tester only.

PoE Detection and Identification
Note: If LED lights appear weak or if tester has not been
in use for an extended period, replace the 9V battery.
1. If this is the first time using the product,
insert a 9V battery into the Main Tester
unit’s battery compartment.
2. Connect the open end of a LAN cable
coming from a PoE source to the Main
Tester unit’s PoE port.
3. Turn the Main tester unit switch to the On
position.
4. Possible testing results are shown in the
