Customizing the
You can customize various camera features to suit your
picture-taking preferences. You can do it with Custom
Functions. Custom Functions can be set and used only
in Creative Zone modes.
Setting Custom Functions _
_ Select [Custom Functions (C.Fn)].
_ Under the [_] tab, select [Custom
Functions (C.Fn)], then press <_>.

Select the Custom Function No.
_ Press the <_ > key to select the
Custom Function No., then press
Change the setting as desired.
_ Press the <AV> key to select the
setting (number), then press <_E_>
_ Repeat steps 2 and 3 if you want to
set other Custom Functions.

Custom Function Settings _
Custom Functions are organized into four groups based on the function
type: C.Fn [: Exposure, C.Fn [[: Image, C.Fn Ill: AutofocusfDdve, C.Fn
IV: OperationlOthers.
C,Fn [: Exposure
0: lt3ostop
1: lt2ostop
Sets 1/2-stop increments for the shutter speed, aperture, exposure
compensation, AEB, flash exposure compensation, etc. Effective when you
prefer to control the exposure in less fine increments than 1/3-stop increments.
_The exposure level Will be displayed in the Viewfinder and On the LCD
monitor as shown below.
0: Off
1: On
For the [SO speed, "H" (equivalent to BSO 12800) wil! be setectable.
However, if [C.Fn-6: HighBight tone priority] is set to [1: Enable], "H"
cannot be seL
0: Auto
The flash sync speed is set automatically within a range of 1/200 sec. to
30 see. to suit the scene's brightness.
1:11200o1160 sec. auto
When flash is used with aperture-priority AE (Av), this prevents a slow
flash-sync speed from being set automatically in low-light conditions. It
is effective for preventing subject blur and camera shake. However,
while the subject will be properly exposed with the flash, the background
will come out dark.
2:1t200 sec. (fixed)
The flash°sync speed is fixed to 1/200 sec. This more effectively
prevents subject blur and camera shake than with setting 1. However,
the background may come out darker than with setting 1.

For 1 sec. or longer exposures, noise reduction is performed
automatically if noise typical of long exposures is detected. This [Auto]
setting is effective in most cases.
2: On
Noise reduction is performed for all exposures of 1 sec. or longer. The
[On] setting may be effective for noise that cannot be detected or
reduced with the [Auto] setting.

® At ISQ 1600 and higher, noise might be more pronounced with setting 2

appear until the noise reduction is completed. (You cannot take another picture.)
Reduces the noise generated in the image. Although noise reduction is
applied at all ISO speeds, it is particularly effective at high ISO speeds. At
low ISO speeds, the noise in the shadow areas is further reduce& Change
the setting to suit the noise level.

With Setting 2, the maximum burst for continuous sh00iing will greatly
decrease.

Improves the highlight detail The dynamic range is expanded from the
standard 18% gray to bright highlights. The gradation between the grays
and higMighte becomes smoother.
_ With setting 1, the [Disable] settin£ automatically laKes effect for the
Auto Lighting Optimizer U:.103) and it cannot be changed.
With setting 1, noise may eecome shghtiy more pronounced tiqan usual.
With sett qg 1, the settable ISO speed range will be 200 6480.
Also. the <De-> icon wili be displayed on the LCD monitor and in the
viewfinder when highlight tone priority is enabled.
CoFnIll: AutofocuslDrive
The AF-assist beam can be emitted by the camera's built-in flash or by an
external, EOS-dedieated Speediite.
O: EnabJe
1: Disable
The AF-assist beam is not emitted.
2: Enable external flash only
If an external, EOS-dedicated Speedlite is attached, it wil! emit the AF-
assist beam when necessary. The camera's built-in flash will not fire the
AF-assist beam.
3: IR AF assist beam only
Among EOS=dedicated Speedlites, only those which have an infrared
AF-assist beam will be able to emit the beam. This prevents any
Speedlite which uses a series of smal! flashes (like the built=in flash)
from firing the AF=assist beam=

Prevents camera vibrations caused by the reflex mirror action which can
disturb shooting with super telephoto lenses or close-up (macro)
shooting. See page 106 for the mirror Iockup procedure.
C,Fn IV: Operation/Others
0: AF/AE Book
1: AE moeklAF
Convenient when you want to focus and meter separately. Press the
<-_(_> button to autofocus, and press the shutter button halfway to appby
AE lock.
2: AFtAF mock, no AE Book
Bnthe AI Servo AF mode, you can press the <-)(_> button to stop the AF
operation momentari}y. This prevents the AF from being thrown off by
any obstacle passing between the camera and subject. The exposure is
set at the moment the picture is taken.
3: AE/AF, no AE Boek
This is useful for subjects which keep moving and stopping repeatedly.
Bnthe AI Servo AF mode, you can press the <_> button to start or stop
the AI Servo AF operation. The exposure is set at the moment the
picture is taken. Thus, the optimum focusing and exposure will always
be achieved as you wait for the decisive moment.
When 1 or 3 is set, pressing the Remote Switch (p1205) halfl_vay Will not
work.

You can assign a frequently-used function to <8>. Press <8> when the
camera is shootingoready.
O: Normal (disabled)
1: linage quality
Press <_> to display the image-recording quality setting screen on the
LCD monitor.
Press the < _;_> key to select the image-recording quality, then press
<:_>.
2: Flash exposure compensation
When you press <8>, the flash exposure compensation setting screen
will appear.
3: LCD monitor On/Off
Assigns the same function as the <D[SR> button.
4: Menu display
Assigns the same function as the <MENU> buttom
5: ISO speed
Assigns the same function as the <[SO> button.
O: Display on
When the power switch is turned on, the shooting settings wil! be
displayed (p_44).
1: Previous display status
If you pressed the <D[SR> button and turned off the camera while the
LCD monitor was off, the shooting settings will not be displayed when
you turn on the camera again. This helps to save battery power. The
menu screens and image playback will stitl be displayed when used.
If you pressed the <DISR> button and turned off the camera while the
LCD monitor was on, the shooting settings will be displayed when you
turn on the camera again.

Data for verifying whether the image is original or not is appended to the
image automatically. When the shooting information of an image
appended with the verification data is dispbayed (p.173), the <_> icon
will appear.
To verify whether the image is original, the Original Data Security Kit
OSK-E3 (sold separately) is required.

Registering My Menu*
Under the My Menu tab, you can register up to six menu options and
Custom Functions whose settings you change frequently.
"/ Select [My Menu settings].
® Under the [_] tab, select [My Menu
settings], then press <_>.
_ Select [Register to My Menu].
® Select [Register to My Menu], then
press <_>.

Register the desired items.
® Select the item to be registered, then
press <_>.
® On the confirmation dialog, select
[OK] and press <_> to register the
item.
® You can register up to six items in My
Menu.
® To return to the screen in step 2,
press the <MENU> button.
About My Menu settings
® Sort
You can change the order of the registered items in My Menu. Select
[Sort] and select the item whose order you want to change. Then
press <_>. With [_] displayed, press the <AY> key to change
the order, then press <_>.
® DeJete item/items and Delete alJ items
You can delete any of the registered items. [Delete itemlitems]
deletes one item at a time, and [Delete all items] deletes all items.
® DispJay from My Menu
When [Enable] is set, the [_] tab will be displayed first when you
display the menu screen.

When you set the copyright information, it will be appended to the
image as Exif information.

information], then press <_>.

When Autofocus Fails
Autofocus can fail to achieve focus (the focus confirmation light <O >
blinks) with certain subjects such as the following:
Subjects difficuJt to focus
® Very low-contrast subjects
(Example: Blue sky, solid-color walls, etc.)
® Subjects in very low light
® Extremely backlit or reflective subjects
(Example: Car with a highly reflective body, etc.)
® Near and far subjects covered by an AF point
(Example: Animal in a cage, etc.)
® Repetitive patterns
(Example: Skyscraper windows, computer keyboards, etc.)
In such cases, do one of the following:
(1) With One-Shot AF, focus an object at the same distance as the
subject and lock the focus before recomposing (p.48).
(2) Set the lens focus mode switch to <MF> and focus manually.
_ If an Extender (sold Separately)is attached and the maximum aperture Of
the lens is f/5_6 or sma!ier (large[ f/number), AE w!l! not be possible

Using a Household Power Outlet
With the AC Adapter Kit ACK=E8 (sold separately), you can connect the
camera to a household power outlet and not worry about the battery
level.
Connect the power cord.
_ Connect the power cord as shown in
the illustration.
_ After using the camera, unplug the
power plug from the power outlet.
_ onnect the DC Coupler.
_ Connect the cord's plug to the DC
Coupler.
_:_.,_,insert the DC Coupler.
_ Open the cover and insert the DC
Coupler until it locks in place.
_:. Push in the DC cord.
_ Open the DC cord hole cover and
install the cord as shown.

This remote controller enables you to take pictures wirelessly up to
about 5 meters/16.4 feet from the camera. You can either shoot
immediately or use a 2=sec. delay.

® Point the remote controller toward the camera's remote control
sensor and press the transmit button.

Remote Control Shooting
Remote Switch RS_60E3 (Sold Separately}
This remote switch has a 60 cm/2,0 feet cord and enables you to press
the shutter button halfway or completely, It connects to the camera's
remote control terminal,
Using the Eyepiece Cover
if you take a picture without looking at the viewfinder, light entering the
eyepiece can throw off the exposure, To prevent this, use the eyepiece
cover (p,23) attached to the camera strap,
During Live View shooting and movie shooting, attaching the
eyepiece cover is unnecessary.
Remove the eyecup.
_ Push the bottom of the eyecup
upward,
_ ttach the eyepiece cover.
_ Slide the eyepiece cover down into
the eyepiece groove to attach it,

EOS-dedicated, EX=series 8peediites
Basically operates like a built-in flash for easy operation,
When an EX=sedes SpeedHte (sold separately) is attached to the
camera, almost all the autoflash control is done by the camera, in other
words, it is like a high=output flash attached externally in place of the
built=in flash,
For detailed instructions, see the EX-series Speed[ite's instruction
manual, TMs camera is a Type=A camera that can use all the features
of EXosedes Speedlites=
Shoe-mount Speedlites Macro Lites
_ W th an EX-series Speed [e not compatible with flash function settLngs
(p.147), only [[=lash exp. comp] and [E=TTL [1meter,] can be se_for

External Speedfites
Canon $peediites other than the EX=serieS
® With an EZJEtEGIMLITL=sedes SpeedJite set in TTL or AoTTL
autoflash mode, the flash can be fired at fuji output only.
Set the camera's shooting mode to <M> (manual exposure) or
<Av > (aperture-priority AE) and adjust the aperture setting before
shooting.
® When using a Speedlite which has manual flash mode, shoot in the
manual flash mode.
Using Non=Canon FJash Units
Syne Speed
The camera can synchronize with compact, non=Canon flash units at
11200 sec. or slower. Be sure to test the flash unit beforehand to make
sure it synchronizes properly with the camera.
Cautions for Live View shooting
A non-Canon flash wiii not fire during Live View shooting.
