First Time Use
Remove the steamer and all accessories 1.
from the packing. Peel o any adhesive labels.
Wash the lid, rice bowl, steam baskets and drip tray 2.
in warm, soapy water before rst use. Rinse and dry
thoroughly. Do not immerse the base in water.
Wipe the inside of the water basin with a damp 3.
cloth.
Check that the voltage rating on the base 4.

Unpacking the Steamer
Remove all packaging from the steamer. Retain the packaging. If you dispose it please
do so according to local regulations.
The following items are included:
Congratulations on the purchase of your new Currys Essentials Steamer.
We recommend that you spend some time reading this instruction manual in
order that you fully understand all the operational features it oers. You will
also nd some hints and tips to help you resolve any issues.
Read all the safety instructions carefully before use and keep this instruction
manual for future reference.

Do not add any salt, pepper, seasonings, herbs,
wine, sock or any liquid other than tap water to
the water basin.
Make sure that the steamer is correctly assembled
before using. Never use other baskets and parts other
than those specially designed for use with this steamer.
The timer operates regardless of whether the steamer
is plugged into the mains socket or not. Be sure that
the ON indicator illuminates when setting the timer.
During the operation do not touch the base, baskets
or lid as they get very hot.
Operation
Place the steamer on a at, sturdy surface away from 1.
walls and overhanging cupboards.
Pour cold water into the water basin. Do not exceed 2.
the maximum mark or less than the minimum mark.
Place the drip tray in the base making sure it sits at.3.
Select how many steam baskets you will need. Stack 4.
the steam baskets in the sequence shown on page 7.
If you want to cook rice using the rice bowl. Place 1 5.
volume of rice and 1.5 volume of water in the rice
bowl (220 grams rice max, 330ml water) and then
place the rice bowl in steamer basket no. 1.
Cover the steam basket with the lid.6.
Plug the steamer into the mains socket. The Power 7.
indicator will illuminate. Do not operate the steamer
without steaming basket and lid in place.
Set the time for cooking the food according to the 8.
recipes on page 12–15. The ON indicator (GREEN)
will illuminate and after a while the steaming will
begin. Condensation during steaming is normal .

To prevent burns, always use oven gloves or a cloth when removing the lid or
steaming baskets as hot steam will escape. Remove the lid slowly with the inside
of the lid pointing away from you and let the steam escape gradually. Hold the lid
over the steamer to allow the condensation to drain into the steamer.
Do not reach into the steamer while steaming. If you need to check on cooking
progress, use a long handled utensil.
When the steaming is complete, the timer will sound and the ON indicator will go 9.
o. The steamer will then switch o automatically.
In order to prevent foods from being overcooked, turn the timer to O position 10.
and unplug the steamer immediately. Remove the steam basket, use a cloth, and
place it on a plate or on the reversed lid. If you have used the rice bowl, remove
this carefully, holding it by its sides.
After use, unplug the steamer and allow it to cool completely before putting it 11.
away.
Useful Hints and Tips
Steaming times stated in the charts and recipes are intended as a guide. If you have •
followed the instructions and the food is still not suciently cooked, simply steam
for a little longer until satised.
A single layer of food steams faster than several layers. Therefore, the cooking time •
for a larger quantity of food will be increased, for example 2lb of cauliower will
need longer to steam than 1lb.
For best results, be sure pieces of food are similar in size. If pieces vary in size and •
layering is required, place the smaller pieces on the top.
Do not crowd food in the steaming basket or rice bowl. Arrange the food with •
spaces between the pieces to allow for maximum steam ow.
When steaming large quantities of food, remove the lid about halfway through the •
steaming time and stir using a long handled utensil, protecting your hands from the
steam with oven gloves.
Never steam meat, poultry or seafood from frozen. Always thaw completely rst.•
All the times stated in the Steaming Charts and Recipes are based on the use of cold •
water, but to slightly reduce the steaming time you may use warm (but not boiling)
water to start.
The rice bowl is an ideal container for steaming other foods such as fruit, vegetables, •
vegetable pates, puddings. etc.
Always place the largest pieces of food with the longest cooking time in the lower •
basket.
You may place dierent foods in the upper and lower baskets, but as condensation •
will drip from the upper basket be sure the avours compliment each other.

While steaming meat or poultry and vegetables, always place the meat or poultry in •
the lower basket so that juices from raw or partially cooked meat cannot drip onto
other food.
Steaming times for food in the upper basket are usually slightly longer so allow a •
minimum of extra 5 minutes.
If you are cooking food with dierent cooking times, place the food that requires •
the longest cooking time in the lowest basket and start cooking it rst. When the
timer reaches the setting for the next basket of food, remove the lid using oven
gloves or a cloth, and add the basket to the stack on the power base. Cover with the
lid and continue steaming.

Set the timer to 20-25 minutes.3.

Cleaning Your Steamer
Never immerse the base, mains cable or mains plug in water.•
Unplug at the mains socket and leave the steamer to cool completely for min. 30 •
minutes before cleaning.
Do not clean any part of the steamer with abrasive cleaners e.g. scouring powders, •
scouring pads, wire wool, washing soda, or bleach.
Do not clean clear plastic bowls with the abrasive pad of a cleaning sponge.•
We recommended washing the lid, rice bowl and drip tray in hot water and •
washing-up liquid. Rinse and dry thoroughly.
Empty the water basin and change the water after each use.•
Do not immerse the base in water. Fill the water basin with warm, soapy water and •
wipe with a cloth. Rinse thoroughly. Descale the interior after every 7 to 10 uses (see
direction below).
Wipe the base with a damp cloth.•
Descaling the Water Basin
After 7 to 10 uses in hard water areas, scale deposits may build up on the heating •
element. This is a normal process and the build-up will depend on the degree of
water hardness in your area. It is essential the steamer is descaled regularly to
maintain steam production and extend the life of the steamer.
Fill the water basin and the heating element compartment with white vinegar or 1.
vinegar water up to the maximum mark.
Do not use any other chemical or a proprietary descaler.
If the vinegar begins to boil over the edge of the base, switch off the
timer and unplug the steamer. Reduce the quantity of vinegar slightly.
When the timer rings, unplug the steamer from the mains socket and allow it to 4.
cool completely before pouring out the vinegar.
Rinse the water basin several times with cold water.5.

Recipes
Steaming times stated in the charts and recipes are intended as a guide. If you have •
followed the instructions and the food is still not suciently cooked, simply steam

The steaming times are all based on food cooked in the lower basket, unless •
specically stated otherwise. Food cooked in the upper basket may take slightly
longer to cook.
All times stated in the charts and recipes are based on the use of cold water.•
Adding More Water During Cooking
For recipes with long cooking times, reset the timer and top up with more water. When
relling, always switch o the steamer rst and empty the drip tray carefully as the
liquid may be hot. Add sucient warm water (but not boiling water) for the remaining
time.
Vegetables
Cut o thick stems from cauliower, broccoli and cabbage.•
Steam leafy, green vegetables for the shortest possible time as they loose colour •
easily.
Salt and season vegetables after steaming for best results.•
Frozen vegetables should not be thawed before steaming.•

Steaming has the advantage of allowing all the fat to drip away during cooking. Due •
to the gentle heat only choose tender lean cuts of meat and trim o all fat. Meat
suitable for grilling is ideal for steaming.
Marinade meat and poultry with avoursome sauces before steaming.•
Thoroughly cook all food before serving. Pierce with a knife or skewer to check that •
the centre is cooked and the juices run clear.
Sausages must be completely cooked before steaming.•
Use fresh herbs while steaming to add avour.•

Safety Warnings
When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed,
including the following:
Read all instructions and retain this instruction manual.1.
Do not touch hot surfaces. Use oven gloves when removing cover or handling hot 2.

Electrical Information
Before using this appliance ensure that the voltage of your electricity supply matches
the voltage indicated on the rating plate of the appliance.
THIS APPLIANCE MUST BE EARTHED.
The ultimate disconnection from the power source is the mains plug. Always make
sure it is easily accessible to be unplugged in the event of an emergency.
This appliance is tted with a fused three pin mains plug to BS 1363 which is suitable
for use in all houses tted with mains sockets to current specications.
If the tted mains plug is not suitable, remove the fuse and dispose of the mains plug
safely, immediately after removing it from the mains cable.
Fitting a new mains plug
If for any reason you need to t a new mains plug, the mains cable must be connected
as shown here. The wires in the mains cable tted to this appliance are coloured in
accordance with the following code:
If the colours of the wires in the mains
cable of this appliance do not correspond
with the coloured markings identifying
the terminals in your mains plug, proceed
as follows:

be used. If you are in any way unsure which mains plug or fuse to use, always refer to a
qualied electrician.

After replacing or changing a fuse on a moulded mains plug
which has a fuse cover, the cover must be retted to the mains
plug, the steamer must not be used without a fuse cover. If lost,
replacement fuse covers can be obtained from an electrical shop.
