SDE-3000EVH Players Guide
Congratulations on your purchase of the BOSS SDE-3000EVH Dual Digital Delay! All of us at EVH and BOSS hope that this unit will bring you years
of enjoyment and inspiration.
This product is comprehensive and versatile, and unique in it’s design. It combines retro” aesthetics and signature SDE-3000 tone, with many
modern features. It can be integrated into guitar rigs (and other applications) in many ways. We created this Players Guide to help you get up and
running quickly, taking into account some of the most common guitar rig applications.
Conguring Input/Output Settings for Your Rig
The SDE-3000EVH Dual Digital Delay can be used mono or stereo.
1. Press the [SETUP] button and then use the [TIME] buttons to select in;ovt”.
2. Press the [SETUP] button again.
3. Use [TIME] buttons to select in, and use the [DEPTH] buttons to set the input for Nono (MONO: most common) or
STErEo (STEREO).
4. Press the [TIME] up button to select the ovt parameter.
For most rigs, this parameter should be set to “STEREO”. If you use the L (mono) output only, the L/R outputs will be summed, even with this
parameter set to stereo. If you use both the L/R outputs, you will get stereo operation.
If you use the L/R and direct outs, you guessed it… you will get L/R stereo delay sounds from the L/R outputs, and direct sound (no eect) from
the direct out. Great for W/D/W rigs.
For more OUT settings, refer to the “Reference Manual” (PDF).
To change the unity gain level to work with your rig
1. Press the [SETUP] button and use the [TIME] buttons to select in;ovt”.
2. Press the [SETUP] button again.
3. Use the [TIME] buttons to select vniGAin”.
4. Use the [DEPTH] buttons to select the right unity gain level setting for your rig.
The SDE-3000EVH can run at Instrument or line level. If you are patching it in front of a guitar amp, it’s usually best to choose instrument level
(-20 dB).
If you are patching the SDE-3000EVH into an eects loop, you check what level setting works best with your amp, (-20 dB, -10 dB, or +4 dB) as
some loops work at instrument level, and some at line level.
You can check gain level by pushing the [ã] button. An input level meter will show in the display.
1. Mono Rigs
If you are using the SDE-3000EVH with other pedals, it’s best to place it after distortions/overdrives in your pedal chain.
Alternatively, you can use the SDE-3000EVH in an amp fx loop, which is the best option if you have a high gain amplier.
When output is set to STEREO, the SDE-3000EVH will sum the L/R outputs automatically when the L (mono) output is used alone.
You can incorporate the SDE-3000EVH loop, to take advantage of the Noise Suppression circuit. This loop can be used in many ways! Just make
sure DSP Bypass is selected, when using the pedal loop. See “Mono, using pedal loop and AMP FX loop (p. 3) for an example:

2. Stereo Rigs
You can split to stereo using the SDE-3000EVH L/R outputs.
This allows you to get awesome expansive stereo delay sounds, using both the SDE-3000EVH delay lines, for up to 4 delay taps:

3. WDW (WET/DRY/WET) Rigs
The SDE-3000EVH features three discrete outputs, including a center dry channel. When fed with a mono or stereo signal, the three outputs can
be routed in a number of ways:
¹to three guitar amps
¹to a guitar amp and a stereo power amp
¹to three inputs of a recording interface or mixer
Using all three outputs will allow you to achieve a guitar sound with awesome depth and dimension. Eddie Van Halen was one of the pioneers
of wet/dry/wet” guitar rigs, and with the SDE-3000EVH, you can also achieve tones with depth, dimension, and texture, without sacricing
articulation and punch!

Adjusting Parameters and Storing Presets
The main parameters of each preset in the SDE-3000EVH can be easily adjusted with the buttons on the top panel. Simply push the up/down
buttons to adjust delay time, feedback, out (mix), mod rate, and mod depth.
To store a preset
1. Holding down the [BANK A/B] button for 2 seconds, then press the [SETUP] (ENTER) button.
2. Select a memory location using the [DEPTH] buttons.
3. Then press the [BANK A/B] button again.
Your preset is stored!
Presets
Push the EVH button to access Eddie Van Halens own custom SDE-3000 presets. EVH presets 1-4 are designed to work with a full W/D/W rig.
Preset one is a long delay with complimentary delay times in the left and right channels. Preset two is similar but with medium delay times, and
preset three is similar but with short delay times. Preset 4 is a mono echo, featuring a delay time Eddie often used on early recordings.
Push the EVH button again to access EVH presets 5-8. They are similar to 1-4 but tweaked to work with more typical stereo or mono rigs.
NOTE
All EVH preset parameters except for output are xed/locked.
Presets A 01 through B 04 were created by the EVH team as a great starting place to discover and explore the capabilities and sonic range of the
SDE-3000EVH DUAL DIGITAL DELAY. There’s everything from basic 16th note slap (great for early rock/rockabilly), to mono echo, to deep stereo
ltered and modulated long delays, to serial cascading delays that echo out into an almost reverb-like tail. We encourage you to get creative with
the SDE-3000EVH, using it as a catalyst for your own musical inspiration!

Four Eddie Van Halen settings are saved as EVH memories (the detailed parameters are unreleased). Further, there are two types of each of these
four settings: a type for output to three amps, and a type for output to a pair of amps in stereo. The OUT LEVEL parameters are optimized for each
type.

MEMO
¹The parameters of the corresponding settings (EVH1/EVH5, EVH2/EVH6, EVH3/EVH7, EVH4/EVH8) are set to the same values, except for the OUT
LEVEL.
¹The delay’s OUT LEVEL parameter for EVH1–4 is preadjusted for use with three outputs, whereas the OUT LEVEL parameter for EVH5–8 is
preadjusted for use with a stereo output.
¹All of the EVH memories (EVH1–8) can be used for either stereo or three-amp output.
¹Although the output setting automatically switches according to the number of amps (1–3) connected when you connect an amp, the
currently selected EVH memory does not automatically switch to a memory that matches the output setting. You must select a memory thats
appropriate for the amp(s) you’ve connected.
¹EVH presets 1-4 are designed to work with a full W/D/W rig.
Preset 1 is a long delay with complimentary delay times in the left and right channels.
Preset 2 is similar but with medium delay times.
Preset 3 is similar but with short delay times.
Preset 4 is a mono echo, featuring a delay time Eddie often used on early recordings.
¹Press the [EVH] button again to access EVH presets 5-8. They are similar to 1-4 but tweaked to work with more typical stereo or mono rigs.
