you to operate your hob safely and correctly.
Please keep the instruction manual, installation instructions and
the appliance certificate in a safe place. If the appliance
changes owners, this documentation should always be
included.
Check the appliance for damage after unpacking it. Do not
switch on the appliance if it is damaged.

Overheated oil and fat
Risk of fire!
Overheated oil or fat can ignite very quickly. Never leave hot oil
or fat unattended. Never attempt to extinguish burning fat or oil
with water. Extinguish the flames with a lid or a plate. Switch the
hotplate off.
Hot hotplates
Risk of burning!
Never touch hot hotplates. Small children must be kept at a
safe distance from the hob.
Risk of fire!
Never place combustible items on the hob.
Do not keep combustible objects or aerosol cans in drawers
directly underneath the hob.
Wet saucepan bases and hotplates
Risk of injury!
Steam pressure may build up if there is liquid between the
saucepan base and the hotplate. This may cause the pan to
jump suddenly. Always keep the hotplate and saucepan bases
dry.
Cracks in the ceramic
Risk of electric shock.!
Switch off the circuit breaker in the fuse box if the ceramic has
fractures, flaws or cracks. Call the after-sales service.
The hotplate heats up but the display does not work
Risk of burning!
Switch off the hotplate if the display is not working. Call the
after-sales service.
The hob switches off automatically
Risk of fire!
If the hob switches itself off and can then no longer be used, it
may unexpectedly switch itself on later. In order to prevent this,
disconnect the hob from the power supply. To do so, switch off
the circuit breaker in the fuse box. Call the after-sales service.
Incorrect repairs
Risk of electric shock.!
Incorrect repairs are dangerous. Switch off the circuit breaker in
the fuse box, if the appliance is faulty. Call the after-sales
service. Repairs may only be carried out by one of our qualified
after-sales engineers.
Causes of damage
Caution!
Rough pot and pan bases scratch the ceramic.
Avoid boiling pots dry. This may cause damage.
Never place hot pots or pans on the control panel, the
display area or the surround. This may cause damage.
Damage can occur if hard or pointed objects fall on the hob.
Aluminium foil and plastic containers melt on hot hotplates.
Oven protective foil is not suitable for your hob.

Tips for saving energy
Always use the right lid for the pan in question. Cooking
without the lid requires four times as much energy.
Use pots and pans with even bases. Using cookware with
uneven bases increases energy consumption.
The diameter of the base of your pot or pan should match the
size of the hotplate. In particular, if pots that are too small are
placed on the hotplate, energy is wasted. Please note:
Cookware manufacturers often specify the diameter of the
top of the pan. This is usually bigger than the diameter of the
base of the pan.
Use a small pan for small quantities of food. A larger, less full
saucepan requires more energy.
Use only a little water when cooking. This saves energy. It
also preserves vitamins and minerals in vegetables.
Switch to a lower heat setting as soon as possible.
Use the residual heat of the hob. For longer cooking times,
you can switch the hotplate off 5 - 10 minutes before the end
of the cooking time.

The instruction manual is the same for various different hobs.

The control panel
Controls
When you touch a symbol, the respective function is activated.
Notes
The settings will remain unchanged if you touch several
symbols at once. This allows you to wipe up spills on the
control panel.
Always keep the controls dry. Moisture reduces their
effectiveness.
The hotplates
Residual heat indicator
The hob has a two-stage residual heat indicator for each
hotplate.
If
appears in the display the hob is still hot. It may be used,
for example, to keep a small meal warm or to melt cooking
chocolate. As the hotplate cools down further, the display
changes to
œ. The display remains lit until the hotplate has
cooled sufficiently.
Setting the hob
This section informs you how to set the hotplates. The table
shows heat settings and cooking times for various meals.
Switching the hob on and off
You can switch the hob on and off with the hotplate controls.
When the hob is switched on, the heat setting display lights up.
Setting a hotplate
Adjust the heat setting of the hotplates using the hotplate
controls.
0 = hotplate off
Heat setting 1 = lowest setting
Heat setting 9 = highest setting
There is an intermediate setting between each heat setting. This
is identified by a dot.
Note: Hotplate temperature is regulated by the heat switching
on and off. The heat may also switch on and off at the highest
setting.

Sensor cooking system
The sensor cooking system is suitable for dishes heated in
liquid or lots of fat. When you extend the cooking sensors, you
can cook directly on the adjacent cooking zones with the
sensor cooking system.
Note: The sensor cooking system is not suitable for frying.
How the sensor cooking system works
Every pot containing hot food gives off heat. The cooking
sensor detects this heat and the hob uses this to automatically
regulate the temperature of the pot.
Advantages when cooking
The hotplate only heats up when necessary. This saves
energy.
Oil and fat do not overheat.
Boiling over is prevented and you do not have to keep
correcting the temperature.
Saucepans for the sensor cooking system
Sensor-compatible saucepans have a surface which dissipates
heat to the sensor particularly well. If saucepans are used that
are unsuitable, the adjustment function does not work. The food
could boil over or burn.
Suitable saucepans
You can use suitable enamelled saucepans. The base of the
pot must be large enough to completely cover the hotplate. Use
the supplied sensor strips with stainless steel and aluminium
saucepans.
Sensor strips
The sensor strips enclosed can also be obtained as a special
accessory from your specialist electrical store. Please specify
the HZ number: HZ 390001
The temperature ranges
When cooking with the sensor cooking system, instead of
setting heat settings, you set temperature ranges. There are five
temperature ranges available:
Altitude calibration
The point at which water begins to boil depends on the height
of your kitchen above sea level. If your food is boiling too
vigorously or not vigorously enough, you can set the boiling
point for each hotplate individually:

At altitudes of 0 400 m, the boiling point need not be set.
Initially, you should cook using the basic setting. If you are
not satisfied with the boiling result, change the boiling point
setting.
The 90100 ºC temperature range is adequate for boiling,
even if the water does not bubble as much as usual.
Cooking with the cooking sensor technology
The hotplate must be switched off.
1.Place the food in the pot and fill with at least two fingers'
depth of liquid.
2.Place the pot in the centre of the hotplate and cover with the
lid.
3.Press the cooking sensor on the desired hotplate so that it
pops out. The
lights up in the display. The possible
temperature ranges appear in the display menu.
4.Within the next 10 seconds, turn the hotplate control until the
desired temperature appears in the display. The sensor
cooking system is activated.
The temperature symbol remains lit until the temperature is
reached. Then a signal sounds. The temperature symbol goes
out. The sensor cooking system maintains the temperature of
the pot within the set temperature range.
Switching off the sensor cooking system
Switch off the hotplate. Depress the cooking sensor, so that the
sensor window does not get dirty.
Notes
You can also place the food in hot water. Fill the pot with
liquid only. Adjust the settings as described in points 3 and 4.
When the temperature is reached and a signal sounds, add
the food to the liquid.
The top of the depressed cooking sensor gets hot if the
adjacent hotplate is switched on.

Deep frying food
Never leave fat heating unattended - risk of fire.
Deep-frying fat
Only use a suitable oil or fat for deep frying, e.g. vegetable oil.
Break blocks of fat into small pieces. Make sure that there is
enough fat in the pot. The minimum level is the width of two
fingers.
Unsuitable fat
Mixtures of fat, e.g. oil and fat or various types of fat, are not
suitable. The hot fat may froth up.
Heating the fat
Heat the fat in a pot with a lid. When the signal sounds, the fat
is hot. You can then deep fry the food.
Deep-fat frying
Always deep fry without a lid on the pot.
1. Add the first portion and deep fry.
2. Take it out. If the temperature symbol does not light up, the
fat is hot enough for the next portion. If it does light up, do not
add the next portion until the signal sounds and the
temperature symbol goes out.
3. Deep fry the next portion.
Note: Deep fry frozen food in small portions. The fat would
otherwise cool too quickly. Example: frozen chips: 1.5 l fat,
approx. 150 g chips per portion.
Cooking in a pressure cooker
Add liquid according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Bring pulses to the boil in the 100 °C temperature range. Skim
off the froth and seal the pressure cooker. Continue to cook in
the 120 °C temperature range.

You can use the cooking programmes to prepare the following
dishes:
Setting the cooking programmes
The hotplate control must be set to 0.
1. Pop out the cooking sensor. The in the display lights up.
2. Within the next 10 seconds, touch the ˜ symbol. lights up
in the heat setting display.

desired programme appears on the hotplate display.
The cooking programme is switched on.

Tips for cooking
Sensor frying system
If you operate the hotplate with the sensor frying system, a
sensor regulates the temperature of the pan.
Advantages when frying
The hotplate only heats up when necessary. This saves energy.
Oil and fat do not overheat.
Notes
Never leave fat unattended while you are heating it.
Put the pan in the centre of the hotplate. Make sure that the
base of the pan has the correct diameter.
Do not place a lid on the pan, otherwise the regulator will not
work. You can use a splatter guard; it will not prevent the
regulator from working.
Only use fat that is suitable for frying. For butter, margarine,
olive oil or lard, select the min frying setting.

You can also purchase a frying pan which is ideally suited to
frying using the sensor frying system from your specialist
electrical retailer or at www.siemenseshop.com: HZ390230
Both availability and whether it is possible to order online differ
between countries.
The frying settings given below have been adjusted to the
system pans.
Note: The sensor frying system may also work with other pans.
Test the pans first with low frying settings, changing as
necessary. The pans may overheat on high frying settings.
Frying settings
Setting the sensor frying system
Select the appropriate frying setting from the table. Put the pan
on the hotplate.
The hotplate must be switched off.
1.Touch the S symbol. The in the display lights up.
The possible frying settings appear in the display menu.
2.Within the next 10 seconds, turn the hotplate control until the
desired frying setting lights up.
The sensor frying system is activated. The large dual-circuit
hotplate is switched on automatically.
The temperature symbol remains lit until the frying temperature
is reached. Then a signal sounds. The temperature symbol
goes out.
3.Add the fat and then the food to the pan.
Food frozen in a block Place the frozen block, e.g. spinach, in the pot. Add liquid according to the manufacturer's
instructions. Put the lid on the pot. Select 70 °C as the temperature range. Stir occasionally.
Preparing food that absorbs a lot of
water (e.g. fish fillet)
Cook in less liquid. Make sure you put the lid on the pot.
Preparing food that tends to boil
over (e.g. pasta)
Put a lid on the pot even for food that boils over easily. This saves energy.
Thickening food Bring the food to the boil at the recommended temperature. After the food has thickened,
leave it to stand at 90 °C.

Next time, use more water.
No signal sounds Always place a lid on the pot. Then the regulating function will work best.

Frying programmes
Only use system pans for the frying programmes. You can use the frying programmes to prepare the following
dishes:
Setting the frying programmes
The hotplate control must be set to 0.
1.Touch the S symbol. The lights up in the display. The
possible frying settings appear in the display menu.
2.Within the next 10 seconds, touch the ˜ symbol. lights up
in the heat setting display.
˜ lights up on the programme
display.
3.Within the next 10 seconds, turn the hotplate control until the
desired programme appears on the hotplate display.
The frying programme is switched on.
The temperature symbol remains lit until the frying temperature
is reached. Then a signal sounds. The temperature symbol
goes out.
Add the fat and then the food to the pan. Turn as you normally
would to prevent burning.
Switching off the frying programme
Set the hotplate control to 0.
Childproof lock
You can use the childproof lock to prevent children from
switching on the hotplates.
Locking the hob
All hotplates must be switched off. Touch the @ symbol until
the indicator lamp above the symbol lights up. This takes about
4 seconds. The indicator lamp goes out after about
10 seconds.
Releasing the lock
Touch the
@ symbol until the indicator lamp goes out. This
takes about 4 seconds. The hob is unlocked.
Locked hob
If you set a hotplate on a locked hob, the following occurs:
flashes in the hotplate indicator, or the residual heat

The indicator lamp above the @ symbol lights up.
Switch the hotplate off. Release the lock.
Shortening the switch-on time
You can shorten the switch-on time of the childproof lock from
4 seconds to 1 second.

Timer
The timer can be used in two different ways:
To switch a hotplate off automatically
As a kitchen timer
Automatic hotplate switch-off
Enter a cooking time for the relevant hotplate. When the
cooking time has elapsed, the hotplate switches off
automatically.
Setting the cooking time:
1. Set the heat setting.
2. Touch the 0 symbol. The x indicator for the desired
hotplate lights up.
‹‹ lights up on the timer display. To select
a different hotplate, touch the
0 symbol repeatedly until the
x indicator for the desired hotplate lights up.
3. Touch the + or - symbol. The default value appears.
+ symbol: 30 minutes
- symbol: 10 minutes
4. Touch the + or - symbol until the desired cooking time
appears on the timer display.
The cooking time counts down. If you have set a cooking time
for several hotplates, you can display each cooking time. To do
this, touch the
0 symbol repeatedly until the x indicator lights
up brightly for the desired hotplate.
When the cooking time has elapsed
When the cooking time has elapsed, the hotplate switches off.

Changing or cancelling the cooking time
Touch the
0 symbol repeatedly until the desired x indicator

Timer function with sensor cooking system
When you cook with the sensor cooking system, the set
cooking time only begins when the temperature for the selected
area is reached.
Timer function with sensor frying system
When you fry with the sensor frying system, the set cooking
time only begins when the temperature for the selected range is
reached.
Note: You can set a cooking time of up to 99 minutes.
Automatic timer
You can use this function to preselect a cooking time for all
hotplates. Each time a hotplate is switched on, the preselected
cooking then counts down. When the cooking time has
elapsed, the hotplate switches off automatically.
You can find out how to switch on the automatic timer in the
Basic settings section.
Note: You can change the cooking time for a hotplate or switch
off the automatic timer for the hotplates.

Kitchen timer
You can use the kitchen timer to set a time of up to 99 minutes.
It runs independently of all the other settings.
Setting procedure
1. Touch the 0 symbol repeatedly until the W indicator for the
kitchen timer lights up.

2. Touch the + or - symbol. The default value appears. +
symbol: 10 minutes - symbol: 05 minutes.
3. Use the + or - symbol to set the time.
The timer starts counting down after a few seconds.
When the time has elapsed
A signal sounds once the time has elapsed.

the timer display. The
W indicator for the kitchen timer lights up
brightly. After 10 seconds, the indicator switches off.
Changing the time
Touch the
0 symbol repeatedly until the W indicator for the
kitchen timer lights up. Use the + or - symbol to set the time.
Automatic time limit
If a hotplate is in use for a long time without the setting being
changed, the automatic time limit is activated.
The hotplate stops heating.

Control panel pause
If you wipe over the control panel while the hob is switched on,
settings may be altered.
To prevent this from happening, your hob has a control panel
pause function. Touch the
# symbol. A signal sounds. The
control panel is locked for 30 seconds. You can now wipe over
the control panel without altering any settings.

Changing the basic settings
The hob must be switched off.
1. Switch on the front left hotplate at heat setting 1.
2. Within the next 10 seconds, touch the 0 symbol for
4seconds.
™‚ appears on the left-hand display and on the right-hand
display.
3. Touch the 0 symbol repeatedly until the desired symbol
appears on the left-hand display.
4. Touch the ð or S symbol repeatedly until the desired setting
appears in the display.
5. Touch the 0 symbol for 4 seconds.
The setting is activated.
6. Switch off all hotplates.
Exit the basic settings without making any modifications
Switch off the hob and reset.
Cleaning and care
The information in this section provides help on how best to
care for your hob.
Suitable maintenance and cleaning products can be purchased
from the after-sales service or in our e-Shop.
Ceramic
Clean the hob after each use. This will prevent spills from
burning onto the ceramic.
Only clean the hob when it has cooled down sufficiently.
Use only cleaning agents which are suitable for ceramic. Follow
the cleaning instructions on the packaging.
Never use:
Undiluted washing-up liquid
Detergent intended for dishwashers
Scouring agents
Harsh cleaning agents such as oven spray or stain remover
Abrasive sponges
High-pressure cleaners or steam jet cleaners
Ground-in dirt can be best removed with a glass scraper,
available from retailers. Please note the manufacturer's
instructions.
You can also obtain a suitable glass scraper from our after-
sales service or from the e-Shop.
Hob surround
To prevent damage to the hob surround, please observe the
following instructions:
Use only warm, soapy water.
Do not use harsh or abrasive agents.
Do not use the glass scraper.
Cooking sensors
The sensor window on the cooking sensor must always be
clean. Remove flecks of fat and dirt regularly. To do so, use
cotton buds or a soft cloth with soapy water and glass cleaner.
Unsuitable cleaning agents
Do not use:
Scratchy objects, such as scourers and scrubbing brushes
Cream cleaner.
