Muntersdehumidiersareintendedtobeusedforthe
dehumidicationofair.Anyotheruseoftheunit,or
usewhichiscontrarytotheinstructionsgiveninthis
manual,cancausepersonalinjuryanddamagetotheunit
andotherproperty.
Nomodicationoftheunitisallowedwithoutprior
approvalbyMunters.Attachmentorinstallation
ofadditionaldevicesisonlyallowedafterwritten
agreementbyMunters.
Warranty
Thewarrantyperiodisvalidfromthedatetheunit
leftourfactory,unlessotherwisestatedinwriting.
Thewarrantyislimitedtoafreeexchangeofpartsor
componentswhichhavefailedasaresultofdefectsin
materialsorworkmanship.
Allwarrantyclaimsmustincludeproofthatthe
faulthasoccurredwithinthewarrantyperiodand
thattheunithasbeenusedinaccordancewiththe
specications.Allclaimsmustspecifytheunittypeand
fabricationnumber.Thisinformationisstampedonthe
identicationplate,seesectionMarking.
Itisaconditionofthewarrantythattheunitforthefull
warrantyperiodisservicedandmaintainedbyaqualied
MuntersengineerorMuntersapprovedengineer.
Accesstospecicandcalibratedtestequipmentis
necessary.Theserviceandmaintenancemustbe
documentedforthewarrantytobevalid.

ThedesiccantdehumidiersintheIceDryserieshavebeendevelopedtoeffectivelydehumidifytheairin
coldstoresinordertominimisefrostandicebuild-up
Thedehumidierisequippedwithanencapsulatedrotorunit.Therotorcasingisconstructedofdurable
thermosetplasticandcontainsisolatedsectionsthatprovideaprecisebalanceforthedehumidication,
reactivationandheatrecoveryairows.
TheelectricalcontrolsystemcomplieswiththeEN60204(IEC60204)standards.Foroperating
temperature,seesection9.2,Technicaldata.
ThedehumidierismanufacturedinaccordancewithuniformEuropeanstandardsandestablished
requirementsforCE-marking.

Thedesiccantrotorismadeofacompositematerialthatishighlyeffectiveinattractingandretainingwater
vapour.Therotorisdividedintwozones.Theairowtobedehumidied,processair,passesthrough
therotor'slargestzoneandthenleavestherotorasdryair.Sincetherotorrotatesslowly,theincomingair
alwaysmeetsadryzoneontherotor,thuscreatingacontinuousdehumidicationprocess.
Theairowthatisusedtodrytherotor,reactivationair,isheated.Thereactivationairpassesthrough
therotorintheoppositedirectiontotheprocessairandleavestherotoraswetair(warm,moistair).This
principleenablesthedehumidiertoworkeffectively,evenatfreezingtemperatures.

3.1Movingtheequipment
Thedehumidierisdeliveredonapalletandmustbehandledcarefully.Allpaneldoorsontheunitmustbe
closedduringtransport.Providedthatthedehumidierisstillsecuredtoitsdeliverypallet,itcanbemoved
usingafork-lifttruck.
Weightofthedehumidiercanbefoundinsection9.1,Dimensionsandservicespace.
3.2Packaginganddeliveryinspection
1.Checkthedeliveryagainstthedeliverynote,orderconrmationorotherdeliverydocumentationand
checkthateverythingisincludedandnothingisdamaged.
2.ContactMuntersimmediatelyifthedeliveryisnotcompleteinordertoavoidinstallationdelays.
3.Iftheunitistobeputintostoragepriortoinstallation,seesectionStoringtheequipment.
NOTE!Ifinstallationisnottobecarriedoutimmediatelyafterarrivaloftheequipment,itisadvisabletoleave
thepackagingmaterialinplaceonthedehumidier,ortore-usethepackagingmaterialtoprovidetemporary
protectionfortheunitduringlatertransportationtothesiteandduringinstallation.
4.Removeallpackagingmaterialfromtheunit,checkcarefullytomakesurethatnodamagehasoccurred
duringtransportation.
5.AnyvisibledamagemustbereportedinwritingtoMunterswithin5daysandpriortoinstallationof
theunit.
6.Disposeofthepackagingmaterialaccordingtolocalregulations.

3.3Storingtheequipment

4.3Siterequirements
Thedehumidierisadaptedtooperationinsidecoldstores.Thepermittedoperationaltemperatures
arefromminus25to0°C.Itisimportantthattheintendedinstallationsitemeetsthelocationandspace

requirementsfortheequipmentinordertoachievethebestpossibleperformanceandfacilitateservicing.
Therefore,complywiththerecommendedservicespaces,seesection9.1,Dimensionsandservicespace.
NOTE!Theunitmustberemovedfromthecoldstoreatcertainserviceintervals.Haveextracablesforunit
connectionavailable.
4.4Wheretoinstallthedehumidier
Selectaplacewherethedehumidiercausestheleastdisturbancetothecold-storageroomactivities,while
allowingformaintenanceworksuchasprocesslterreplacement.
Whentheunitisinstalledonabaseframe,thebaseframemustbedesignedinsuchawaythatitcaneasilybe
removedfromthecoldstore/freezer.Makesureopeningsforforkliftareincluded.
Thedehumidiermustbeplacedsothatthereisnoriskoftheprocessintakeandltericingup.Icenormally
formsnearthedoorsandair-locksofthecoldstorewherewarm,humidairowsin.
Installthedehumidierinsuchawaythatthereactivationairandwetairductsareasshortaspossible,max

4.5Ducting
4.5.1Generalrecommendations
NOTE!Vibrationreduction.Ifthereisaneedtoforreductionofvibrationsfromthedehumidier,contactMunters
forinstructions.RefertostandardEN1299+A1:2008.
Duetothecoldsurroundingsandriskoffreezing,itisvitalthatallductingareinstalledaccordingto
instructions.Seealso4.6,Installationexamplescoldstorageroom(freezer).
Tofacilitateeasytransferofthedehumidieroutofthecold-storageroomforservice,allductconnections
shouldbeeasilydisassembled.Shouldthedehumidier,despitethisrecommendation,beinstalledinsucha
waythatitcannotbeeasilyremovedforservice,itisimportantthattheminimumservicespacerequirements
aremet,see9.1,Dimensionsandservicespace.Avapour-tightconnectionbetweenthewallandtheductisvital.
Preferably,polyurethanefoamshouldbeusedifthetemperatureissufcientlyhighduringapplication.
Wheninstallingductworkbetweenthedehumidierandtheinletandoutletconnections,thefollowing
recommendationsshouldbeobserved:
Thelengthofductworkshouldbekeptasshortaspossibletominimisestaticairpressurelosses.
Tomaintainperformance,allrigidprocessorreactivationairductworkjointsmustbeairandvapour
tight.
Thedesignoftheductconnectionsshouldfacilitateeasydisconnectionoftheunitforserviceoutside
thecold-storageroom.
Condensationeasilybuildsupontheinsideoftheductduetothehighhumidityofthereactivationair.
Toavoidcondensation,theductworkmustbeinsulated.
Theprocessairductworkshouldbeinsulatedtopreventcondensationfromdevelopingontheoutside
oftheductwheneverthetemperatureoftheairwithintheductfallsbelowthedewpointoftheambient
airthroughwhichtheductworkisrouted.
Thewetairleavingthedehumidierwilleasilycausecondensationontheinsideoftheductwallsdueto
thehighmoisturecontent.Thismustbeavoidedbyinsulatingtheducts.

Ensurethataccessforoperationandservicingisnotrestrictedwhendesigningandinstallingducting.
Formoreinformation,seesection9.1,Dimensionsandservicespace.
Toreducenoiseand/orvibrationbeingtransmittedalongrigidductwork,goodquality,airtightexible
connectionsshouldbetted.
Ductsmounteddirectlyontothedehumidiershouldbeadequatelysupportedtominimisetheloadand
stressduetotheweightandmovementoftheducting.
Dampersforbalancingtheairowmustbeinstalledinthereactivationairinletduct.Correctairows
areessentialformaintainingtheoperatingefciencyoftheunit.Forairowadjustmentdetails,see
section4.10,Airowcheckandadjustment.
Processairpressureandowareadjustedusingtheprocessairfan'sfrequencyconverter.Ifthisisthe
case,itisnotnecessarytohaveadamperinthedryairduct.
Thetotalresistanceintheprocessandreactivationductworkmustnotexceedtheperformancerating
ofthefansttedinthedehumidier.Fordetailsofminimumavailablestaticpressure,seechapter
9.2,Technicaldata.
4.5.2Processairinlet
Thedehumidierhasanexternallterboxfortheprocessairinlet.Ifthereisariskoftheprocessairlter
icingup,aductshouldbeconnectedtoretrieveprocessairfromadrylocation5-10metresfromthedoor
opening.Thelterboxcanthenbemovedtotheinletsideoftheduct.
4.5.3Dryairoutletduct
Channeloutthedryairfromthedehumidieranddistributeitsothatitmixeswiththewarm,humidairthat
normallyentersthecoldstoreabovethedoorsandair-locksthatareopenedregularly.Installanadjustable
damperintheduct.
4.5.4Reactivationairintake
Placethereactivationairintakeandlterboxoutsidethecoldstore.Mountthelterboxdirectlyonthewall.
Theducttothedehumidierreactivationairintakeshouldbeatmost1.5metreslong,andmustbeinsulated
topreventicebuild-up.Thisalsoappliestothesectionofductpassingthroughthewall.Anadjustable
damperisinstalledintheduct.
Topreventtheoutgoingwetairhumidifyingtheincomingreactivationair,thereactivationairintakemustbe
positionedatleast2metresfromthewetairoutlet

temperaturesbetween-30°Cand75°C,benomorethan1.5metreslongandbeinsulatedtopreventice
formation.Thisalsoappliestothepartoftheductpassingthroughthewall.
Becauseofitshighmoisturecontentthewetairleavingthedehumidierwillcondenseontheinsideof
theductwalls.Duetothelowambienttemperaturethereisariskoficeformation.Thewetairductmust
thereforebeinsulated.
Horizontalductsmustbeinstalledwithaslightdecline(awayfromthedehumidier)todrainaway
possiblecondensation.Thedeclinemustbeatleast2cm/mofduct.
5mmdrainholesshouldbemadeatlowpointsoftheducttopreventwateraccumulationintheduct.
Topreventtheoutgoingwetairfromhumidifyingtheincomingreactivationair,thewetairoutletmust
beplacedatleast2metresfromthereactivationinlet.SeeFigure4.1.

dehumidierisnormallyswitchedoff.Thispreventsiceformationinductsanddehumidiercausedby
unintendedventilationandlowtemperatureinthecold-storageroom.
4.7Electricalconnections

Allelectricalinstallationsmustbecarriedoutbyaqualiedelectricianandinaccordancewithlocalregulations.
Allunitsaredeliveredcompletewithallinternalcablinginstalledandconguredtothevoltageand
frequencygivenontheIDplate.
NOTE!Supplyvoltagemustnotvarymorethan10%ofthespeciedoperatingvoltage.
Theunitmustbeadequatelyconnectedtoearth.
Forconnectiondetails,refertotheIDplate,Electricalcircuitdiagramsorsection9.2,Technicaldata.The
connectioncableandmainfusesmustbesuitabletotheunitbeinginstalled.
Connecttheunitwithaexiblecabletoawallmountedsocket.Thiswaytheunitcaneasilybedisconnected
fromthepowersupplybyremovingtheplugfromthesocket.
Thedehumidierisconnectedtotheexternalelectricalcabinetviathesuppliedcables(about10m)with
markedconnectors.Aspecialbracketisprovidedforwallmountingoftheexternalelectricalcabinet.

Themainpowersupplyispermanentlyconnectedtothemainpowerswitchoftheunit.Adjustments,maintenance
andrepairsmustonlybecarriedoutbyauthorisedpersonnel.
Beforestartingthedehumidierforthersttime,ensurethatthemainpowersupplyisisolatedfromthe
dehumidierandcarryoutthefollowingchecks:
1.MakesurethatthemodeselectorswitchonthedehumidierisintheOFFposition..
2.Makesurethattheairintakeltersareundamagedandproperlytted,andthatallareasinsidetheunit
arecleanandfreefromice.
3.Visuallyinspectallductingandductconnectionstomakesurethatallconnectionshavebeencorrectly
installedandthattherearenosignsofdamagetothesystem.Alsocheckthatallductsarefreefrom
obstaclesblockingtheairpassage.
4.Checkthattheincomingpowersupplyvoltageiscorrectandthatthecablesarecorrectlyconnected.
5.Afterconnectingtheprocessfantopower,checkthefanturningdirection.
6.Openthedehumidier'sfrontpanel.
7.Startthedehumidierandcheckthatthefanisturning.
8.Switchoffthedehumidierandcheckthefanjustbeforeitstops.Makesureithasaclockwiserotation
9.Makesurethattheunit'spowersupplyandmainswitchareonassoonastheunithasbeeninstalledinthe
cold-storageroom.Ifnot,checkifthereisiceintheunit.
10.Setthedamperforthereactivationairowfullyopen.
11.Setthedamperfortheprocessairow50%open.

Iftheprocessandreactivationairowsarenotproperlyadjusted,theunitcanmalfunction.Theairowmustbeset
tomaximum10%abovethespeciednominalvaluelistedinsection9.2,Technicaldata.
1.Byadjustingthedampersinstalledinthedryairoutletandreactivationairinletducts,theprocessand
reactivationairowscanbechangedtotherequiredsetting.
2.Startthedehumidierforapproximately10minutestoallowthereactivationheatertoreachitsnormal
operatingtemperature.Seesection5.5,Operatingtheunit.
3.Checkthatthetemperaturedifferencebetweenreactivationairdownstreamoftheheater,andthe
regenerationtemperatureisapprox.95°C(tolerancelimitis±5°C).
4.Ifthetemperaturedifferenceliesoutsideofthetolerancelimit,thereactivationairdampercanbe
adjustedinsmallsteps(whichcausesthetemperatureindicatortostabiliseaftereachadjustment)until
reactivationtemperatureiswithinthespeciedtolerances.
Example:
Inletairtemperature=15°C
Reactivationairtemperature=110°C
Temperatureincrease=95°C

Thedehumidierisequippedwithanexternalelectricalcabinetcontainingcontrolpanel,mainpower
switch,modeswitch,displayandindicatorlamps.
Themodeswitchhastwooperatingpositions:
Position0:Nodehumidication.Theheaterintheelectricalcabinetandthereactivationheaterisstillin
operationtoavoidiceformation.Anautomaticrotordefrosterfunctionmaystillbeinoperation,see
section5.6.2,Duringdowntime.
Position1:Continuousoperationanddehumidication.Automaticrotordefrostingisnormalduring
operation,seesection5.6.1,Duringoperation.
