OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
Preface In these operating instructions, handling of the device and the intended usage options are
explained.
These operating instructions contain important information to be able to operate the
device securely, professionally and economically efficiently. Observation of the information
in the present operating instructions contributes to avoiding dangers, repair costs and
downtimes as well as increasing the reliability and service life of the unit.
These operating instructions can be supplemented or changed based on present national
provisions for accident prevention and environmental protection without previous
announcement.
These operating instructions must be available at the site of use at all times.
All persons who perform work with this device must read the present operating
instructions thoroughly and observe the notes contained in them.
This applies, among others, to the following work:
Work including setting up the device, troubleshooting when performing the work,
removing wastes, care for the device and removal of working materials.
Maintenance (servicing, inspection, repair, etc.)
Apart from the provisions and notes in the present operating instructions and the binding
rules on accident presentation applicable in the country of use and at the site of use, the
recognised work and safety rules must be observed as well.
Devices needed For the stone gripper to be operated, suitable and tested load handling equipment must be
present. The intended use must be observed and complied with.
Changes and reservations We strive to ensure that these operating instructions are correct and up to date. To
maintain our technology head start, it may be required to perform changes to the product
and its operation without previous announcement. We assume no responsibility for any
interferences, failures and damage resulting from this.

SERVICE DESCRIPTION
With their compact build and simple operation, the LISSMAC gripper tools offer best
support for moving the bricks to every user.
Can be used for LISSMAC miniature cranes and masonry work platforms
One-hand control unit with serial cable for attachment to the Vario stone gripper
All control and operating elements are placed protected in a metal housing.
A comprehensive selection of replaceable jaws

Vario stone gripper:
VSG 510 from 115 to 510 mm, gradually adjustable
VSG 840 from 115 to 840 mm, gradually adjustable
VSG 1250 from 115 to 1250 mm, gradually adjustable

1.1. Principle of Intended Use
The manufacturer and supplier assume no liability for incorrect or non-intended use. Any change made to the
device that is not performed by the manufacturer is forbidden. Changes made by attachments or conversions are
only to be performed with the written consent of the manufacturer.
The device is built according to the state of the art and the recognised safety-technical rules. Nevertheless,
dangers to life and limb of the user or third parties or impairment of the device and other property may occur when
using the device.
Use the device only in a technically impeccable condition as well as in the intended manner, safety- and danger-
consciously. Use under observation of the operating instructions!
Specifically remove interferences that may impair safety (have them removed)!
The LISSMAC stone grippers belong to the device class of the hand-held gripping tools and serve solely to move
bricks in connection with a suitable and tested load holder. For hand-guided movement, the control is firmly
installed to the stone gripper and must only be operated by one operator. The maximum carrying capacity of the
stone gripper must not be exceeded.
Any other or exceeding use is deemed non-intended.
Intended use also includes observation of the operating instructions and compliance with the inspection and
maintenance instructions.
Foreseeable misapplication/non-intended use:
Lifting damaged and contaminated bricks
Lifting bricks with iced adhesive faces
Lifting bricks with worn carbide tips
1.2. Organisational Measures
Always keep the operating instructions readily accessible to any person at the site of use.
Observe and order supplementations of the operating instructions, such as general legal and other binding rules
for accident prevention and environmental protection!
Such obligations may also include, e.g., handling of hazardous substances or wearing of personal protection
equipment or rules on road-traffic.
The staff charged with activities must have read and understood the operating instructions and specifically the
chapter Safety Notes, before taking up work. During work it will be too late. This specifically applies to staff only
working at the machine occasionally, e.g. when equipping, servicing.
At least occasionally check for safety- and danger-conscious work of the staff under observation of the operating
instructions!
Where required or demanded by provisions, wear personal protection.
Observe all safety and danger notes.
Keep all safety and danger notes completely legible.
In case of any safety-relevant changes of the operating conduct, shut down the device at once and mark it
accordingly. Report interference to the relevant office/person.
Do not perform any changes by attachments and conversions without the written consent of the manufacturer.

Only use tested and genuine spare parts of the manufacturer.
Comply with periods prescribed or indicated in the operating instructions for inspections! An inspection by an
expert (TÜV or manufacturer) is prescribed every year.
Annual inspections must be performed on the stone gripper. They must be recorded in writing in these operating
instructions.
The device must be thoroughly cleaned before the inspection.
1.3. Selection and Qualification of Staff; General Obligations
Only persons who have completed the 18th year of life must be charged with independent operation. All persons
must have been instructed in operation of the stone gripper and expressly charged with operation by the owner.
The operator must have personal safety equipment such as safety shoes, safety gloves and a construction helmet
that comply with the safety provisions.
Unnecessary staying in the movement and working range is prohibited! If required, lock the working area.
The operator must ensure during all movements that he does not endanger himself and other persons.
Staff to be trained, taught or instructed or in the scope of general training must only work at the device
consistently monitored by an experienced person!
1.4. Safety Notes on the Operating Phases
1.4.1. Transport, Assembly and Installation
The stone gripper must be disassembled during transport.
Check load handling for damage before installation of the stone gripper.
Observe the maximum load-bearing capacity of the stone gripper.
The gripping jaws installed at the stone gripper must be approved for the brick.
At least once a year, check the stone gripper for outwardly visible damage.
Check carbide tips with the measuring template before operation!

1.4.2. Operation
Do not perform any work that poses a concern for safety!
Take measures so that the stone gripper is only operated in a safe and functional condition!
At a wind strength in excess of wind level 7 (15 m/sec.) or approaching storm, the stone gripper must be set up at
once and secured against lighting strike.
Transporting different working material such as bricks and other tools is prohibited!
The maximum carrying capacity of the stone gripper must not be exceeded.
No persons must be present under suspended loads.
To protect from acceleration of the load, the load must be moved clear slowly.
1.4.3. Special Work in the Scope of Use of the Machine
Setting, warning and inspection work must be performed according to these operating instructions, including
information on the exchange of parts/partial equipment! This work must only be performed by authorised
specialists.
Before cleaning the stone gripper, the control must be disassembled.
Always tighten any screw connections loosened during service and repair work!
1.5. Transport
The stone gripper must be disassembled during transport before load handling.
Proceed only according to the operating instructions at recommissioning!
1.6. Packaging and Storage
The device was packed carefully to warrant sufficient protection during shipping. Check the device for damage upon
receipt.
The device must not be taken into operation in case of damage.
In this case, inform LISSMAC Maschinenbau GmbH.
If the device is not taken into operation at once after unpacking, it must be protected from moisture and dirt.

1.7. Environmental Protection
Packaging material, cleaning agents, used or residual operating media as well as unpacked wear parts such as drive
lets or motor oils must be supplied to recycling according to the environmental protection provisions applicable at
the site of use.
1.8. Disposal
The device's packaging consists of recyclable materials. Put them into the intended collection container sorted by
type so that they can be supplied to reuse.
When the end of the device's service life is reached, specifically when any functional interferences occur, render
the retried device useless.
Dispose of the device according to the environmental provisions applicable in your country.

COMMISSIONING
3.1. Carbide Tips
Note Before every daily use, the carbide tips at the stone gripper must be inspected for wear with the
measuring template (Pos. 1). Worn or defective carbide tips with a height of less than 1.5 mm
need to be replaced at once!
3.2. Setting the Gripping Area
3.2.1. Stone Gripper SG
Open the spring lock (Pos. 2)
Put the adjustable arm (Pos. 3) into position.
Secure the position with the spring lock (Pos. 2).
Align the horizontal position with the crane eyelet (Pos. 1).

Pull the spring plug (Pos. 1) and turn the gripping jaws (Pos. 2) by 180°

3.3. Attach the Control to the Stone Gripper
For hand-controlled movement, the control is firmly installed to the stone gripper.
The adapter can be used to connect the control of the LISSMAC miniature crane to the stone
gripper.
Note
The control cable must not coil around the chain in operation. The operator must observe this during
any upwards and downwards movements.

TRANSPORT
Note The stone gripper must be disassembled during transport before load handling.
OPERATION

Do not let any load hang from the stone gripper unsupervised!
The stone gripper must be able to move freely within the action radius. No objects or persons
must be present in this area!

MAINTENANCE
6.1. Maintenance Work
Before each use daily weekly
Thoroughly clean the stone gripper.
Visual inspection for recognisable damage and defects
Check screws and nuts, tighten if required.
Check carbide tips.
Lubricate lubrication points.
