Sticky Steel™
Sound Suppressor
Description
The Sticky Steel™ Sound
Suppressor is a constrained layer
sound and vibration suppressor.
It works by trapping sound
vibrations in the soft layer of the
suppressor, and converting them
to heat. It works best on thin
layers of material, like sheet metal.
Key Features
• Quick and easy to install,
without the need for special
tools or equipment
• Adhesive is strong and long-
lasting when properly installed.
• Easily cut into smaller sizes with
tin snips
• Galvanized steel layer resists
rust and corrosion
• Available in 4" x 6" sheets
Product Applications
Examples of places where this
product can be effective include:
• Under uncoated stainless
steel sinks
• Inside the side panels
of appliances
• On metal HVAC ductwork
• On the metal housing of
bathroom and kitchen
ventilating fans
• Other sheet metal surfaces
which can vibrate and transmit
sound
Technical Information
• The Sticky Steel™ Sound
Suppressor will work best if
it can be placed in the center
of open areas of sheet metal
panels. It is important to choose
the installation location carefully.
One way to identify locations
to mount the suppressor is to
touch the spot on the panel
with your nger to deaden
vibration at that location.
By moving your nger to
several different spots you can
determine the most effective
location for the suppressor.
• Clean surface where you will be
applying the Sticky Steel™ Sound
Suppressor with rubbing alcohol
and a cotton swab and let dry.
• Peel the backing to expose
the adhesive and apply to the
surface you want to quiet. The
adhesive used in this sound
suppressor is very strong, so
once the suppressor is mounted
in position, it will be dif cult, if
not impossible, to move.
• Apply even pressure to the
Sticky Steel™ Sound Suppressor.
A test was performed with
a stainless steel sink, initially
untreated and then treated
with the Sticky Steel™ Sound
Suppressor. The loudness of the
sound made when the sink was
struck with an instrumented
hammer was measured and
recorded. The results are shown
in Table 1.
The sink was installed in a
base cabinet, not connected to
plumbing and without a faucet.
Two 4" x 6" pieces of Sticky
Steel™ Sound Suppressor were
used under the bowl of the sink.
The sone is a unit of perceived
loudness.

Covering vents or louvers may
restrict air ow and could cause
damage to your item.
• Do not cover electrical
connections or wires with
product. Covering electrical
connections could result is
personal injury.
• Do not place on rotating
equipment such as fan blades,
mower blades, etc.
• Do not place in high
temperature areas, such as the
inside of an oven cavity.
