1.2 System requirements
When connected to the existing USB 2.0 slot up to 10 % faster than
conventional USB 2.0 data storage medium
The full speed advantage of up to 5 Gbit/s can be reached with this HDD in
connection with the CnMemory
®
Express Card USB 3.0 to your notebook or
the PCI Express 3.0 Card for your computer. Compatibility with USB 2.0

1.3. Safety instructions
To ensure maximum safety in handling your hard disk drive please observe the follow-
ing instructions:
• Set up and operate the disk drive on a stable, level and vibration-free surface.
Do not open the housing, since this might destroy the hard disk and would
invalidate the warranty.
Protect your disk drive against impact and vibrations. We do not assume liability
for any resulting damage.
• Only use the original power supply to operate the disk drive.
Do not introduce any objects through openings and slits into the disk drive interior,
since this might cause short-circuits.
Protect you disk drive against humidity, dust, heat and direct sunlight as well as
extreme temperatures in order to avoid malfunctions.
• Keep the disk drive environment clean and free from excessive dust and chemicals.
To clean the disk drive use only a damp cloth. Never apply cleaning agents directly
to the disk drive housing.
• Do not let children play with electrical devices unsupervised.
Route the cables so that they do not present a trip hazard. Do not place any objects
on the cables, since the cables might become damaged as a result.
To avoid data loss you should back up your data regularly. The assertion of claims
for damages for data loss and any resulting damage is excluded.
• Repairs may only be performed by service partners authorised by us.
2. Hardware installation
Please note that when using the USB 2.0 interface, the transmission rate is
considerably lower than with USB 3.0. (Please read the information 1.2 system

Plug the supplied USB cable into the appropriate connector on your external disk drive (1).
Plug the power supply into a power socket and the appropriate connector on your
external disk drive (2).
3. Software installation
3.1. Windows 2000 and greater

When formatting your hard disk all data contained on the disk will be deleted. We do
not assume any liability for lost data.
Comments on the le systems
If you intend to work with access control for les and folders or require support
for restricted accounts, we recommend the use of NTFS as le system.
• The NTFS le system is also more suitable than FAT for large data carriers.
CAUTION!
If you have already formatted a disk drive or a partition in NTFS, you need to reformat
it before you can reconvert it to FAT or FAT32. Any data contained in the partition will
be deleted by this process without exception.
5. Removing the disk drive from the system
• Before switching the disk drive off, all les and applications must be closed.
• If necessary, log the disk drive off the operating system.
• Once this has been done, press the On/Off switch (Does not apply for all designs).
CAUTION!
Removing or switching off the disk drive while data is being read or written can cause
loss of data. We do not assume any liability for lost data.
