BEFORE OPERATING

• Read the instructions carefully. Be familiar with the

controls and proper use of the unit.

• Do not operate this unit when tired, ill or under the

influence of alcohol, drugs or medication.

• Children and teens under the age of 15 must not use

the unit, except for teens guided by an adult.

• Before each use, thoroughly inspect your unit for loose

or damaged parts. Do not use until adjustments or

repairs are made.

• All guards and safety attachments must be installed

properly before operating the unit.

• Clear the area to be cut before each use. Remove

all objects such as cords, lights, wire or string,which

can become entangled in the cutting blade.

• Use the unit only in daylight or good artificial light.

• Keep all bystanders, especially children and pets, at

least 50 feet (15 m) away from the unit while operating.

SAFETY WARNINGS FOR BATTERY UNITS (TB24HTB)

• Battery tools do not have to be plugged into an

electrical outlet; therefore, they are always in operating

condition. Be aware of possible hazards even when

tool is not operating. Take care when performing

maintenance or service.

• Remove the battery before servicing, cleaning, or

removing material from the unit.

• Use only the charging stand provided with your unit.

Do not substitute any other charging stand. Use of

another charging stand could promote batteries to

explode causing possible serious injury.

• Do not charge the unit in rain or in wet locations.

SAFETY WARNINGS FOR CHARGING STANDS

AND NI-CD BATTERIES (TB24HTB)

• Before using charging stand, read all instructions and

cautionary markings in this manual, on charging stand,

and product using charging stand.

• Do not expose charger to rain or snow.

• To reduce risk of injury, charge only sealed ni-cd

rechargeable batteries. Other types of batteries may

burst, causing personal injury and damage.

• To reduce risk of damage to charger body and cord,

pull by the charger body, rather than cord, when

disconnecting the charger.

• Make sure charger cord is located so that it will not be

stepped on, tripped over, or otherwise subjected to

damage or stress.

• Do not operate charger with a damaged cord or plug.

If damaged, replace charger immediately.

• Do not operate charger if it has received a sharp blow,

been dropped, or otherwise damaged in any way. If

the charger case is damaged, replace the charger.

• Do not disassemble charger. The charger is not serviceable;

disassembly may result in a risk of electric shock or fire.

• To reduce risk of electric shock, unplug the charger from

outlet before attempting any maintenance or cleaning.

• Do not use charger outdoors.

• Use only a 14.4 volt DC, ni-cd battery.

• Do not dispose of batteries in a fire. The cell may

explode. Batteries should be recycled, consult your

local waste authority for information regarding

available recycling and/or disposal options or call

1-800-8 BATTERY for recycling information.

• Do not charge battery in rain or in wet locations.

• Exercise care when handling batteries in order not to

short the battery with conducting materials such as

rings, bracelets, and keys. The battery or conductor

may overheat and cause burns.

DANGER: When using electric gardening

appliances, basic safety precautions should

always be followed to reduce the risk of fire,

electric shock and personal injury. Carefully read

and understand the entire operator's manual

before using your trimmer. Pay close attention to

the operating instructions and safety warnings.

RULES FOR SAFE OPERATION

*The wire size (AWG) for appliances using 12 to 16

amps is 14 AWG for 25 feet, 12 AWG for 50 feet, and

not recommended for 100 or 150 feet.

• CORD SETS: Make sure your cord set is in good

condition, with a cord that is heavy enough to carry

the current that your unit will draw. An undersized cord

set will cause a drop in line voltage resulting in a loss

of power, as well as overheating. The table shown

above illustrates the correct size to use depending on

the cord length and nameplate amperage rating. If in

doubt, use the next heavier size line gauge. The

smaller the gauge number, the heavier the cord. To

prevent the cord from disconnecting from the unit, use

the cord hook shown in the Operating Instructions.

• Do not abuse the power cord. Do not pull or carry the

unit by the cord, use the cord as a handle, close a

door on the cord, or pull the cord around sharp edges

or corners. Keep the cord away from heated surfaces,

oil and sharp edges.

•Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) protection

should be provided on the circuit(s) or outlet(s) that will

be used for the unit. Use receptacles with built-in

GFCI protection for an extra measure of safety.

•A nameplate on your unit indicates the voltage used.

Never connect the unit to an AC voltage that differs

from this voltage.

• Inspect all extension cords and the unit power connection

periodically. Look closely for deterioration, cuts or cracks

in the insulation. Also inspect the connections for damage.

Repair or replace the cords if any defects appear.

• Avoid dangerous environments. Never operate your unit

in damp or wet conditions. Moisture is a shock hazard.

WARNING: To reduce the risk of electrical

shock, use only SW-A, SOW-A, STW-A,

STOW-A, SJW-A, SJOW-A, SJTW-W or

SJTOW-A cord types.

• Charge the battery in a location where the temperature

is more than 50˚F (10˚C) but less than 100˚F (38˚C).

• Do not open or mutilate the battery. Released

electrolyte is corrosive and may cause damage to the

eyes or skin. It may be toxic if swallowed.

ELECTRICAL SAFETY WARNINGS (TB24HT)

• Since the tool is double-insulated, a 2-wire extension

cord (an extension cord without a ground) may be

used. A 3-wire extension cord (an extension cord with

a ground) that uses a NEMA type connector (parallel

blade, U ground) is recommended. Extension cords

are available from your local retailer. Use only round-

jacketed extension cords approved for outdoor use.

• This tool is double-insulated. Repair or replace damaged

cords.

• To reduce the risk of electrical shock, this unit has a

polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). This

unit will fit with a polarized plug in one way only. If the

plug does not fit fully into the unit, reverse the plug. If

it still does not fit, use a cord with the correct

connection. Do not modify the unit in any way.

• Do not use the unit in the rain.

• Do not handle the plug or the unit with wet hands.

WHILE OPERATING

• Wear safety glasses or goggles that are marked as

meeting ANSI Z87.1-1989 standards. Also wear

ear/hearing protection when operating this unit. Wear

a face or dust mask if the operation is dusty. Long

sleeve shirts are recommended.

• Wear heavy, long pants, boots and gloves. Do not

wear loose clothing, jewelry, short pants, sandals or

go barefoot. Secure hair above shoulder level.

• The unit poses a risk of cut. Keep hands away from the

blades. Keep both hands on handles when power is on.

• Do not attempt to remove cut material or hold material to

be cut when blades are moving. Make sure unit is unplugged

and the switch is off when clearing jammed material from

blades. Do not grasp the exposed cutting blades or

cutting edges when picking up or holding the unit.

• Take caution: Blades coast after unit is turned off.

• Avoid accidental starting. Do not carry around a unit

that is plugged in with your finger on the trigger

switch. Be sure the switch is in the off position when

plugging in the unit.

• Use the right tool. Only use this tool for the purpose

intended.

• Do not overreach. Always keep proper footing and

balance. Do not operate from unstable surfaces like

ladders trees, slopes or rooftops.

•When operating the hedge trimmer, always hold the

unit with both hands. Keep a firm grip on both the

housing grip and front handle. Never grip the unit by

the guard or use the guard as a handle.

• Always stop the motor when cutting is delayed or

when walking from one cutting location to another.

• If you strike or become entangled with a foreign

object, stop the motor immediately and check for

damage. Do not operate before repairing damage. Do

not operate the unit with loose or damaged parts.

• Stop and switch the unit to off and unplug it during

maintenance, repair or replacement.

• Keep the unit clean of vegetation and other materials.

They may become lodged between the cutting

attachment and shield.

OTHER SAFETY WARNINGS

• Be sure to secure the unit while transporting.

• Store the unit in a dry area, locked up to prevent

unauthorized use or damage, and stored in a high

place out of the reach of children.

•Never douse or squirt the unit with water or any other

liquid. Keep handles dry, clean and free from debris. Clean

after each use. See the Cleaning and Storage instructions.

• Keep these instructions. Refer to them often and use

them to instruct other users. If you loan someone this

unit, also loan them these instructions.

ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS

INSTALLING THE SAFETY GUARD

After removing your hedge trimmer from its carton,

remove the contents from the plastic bag. Install the

safety guard as follows:

1. Place the safety guard on the trimmer, at the base of

the cutting blade (Fig. 1).

2. Align the screw holes in the guard with the holes in

the trimmer (Fig. 1).

3. Insert a screw on each end of the safety guard, using

a Phillips screwdriver. Do not over-tighten.

WARNING: To prevent serious personal

injury, never operate the trimmer without

the safety guard in place.

CHARGING THE BATTERY (TB24HTB only)

The battery for this unit has been shipped in a low

charge condition to prevent possible problems.

Therefore you should charge the battery for at least 8

hours before using.

NOTE: Batteries will not reach full charge the first time

they are charged. Allow several cycles (trimming

followed by recharging) for batteries to be fully

charged.

1. Charge battery only with the 14.4V charger provided.

2. Plug the 14.4V charger into the wall outlet and its

barrel connector into the battery charger (Fig. 3).

Make sure the wall outlet is normal house voltage,

120 volts, 60 Hz, AC only.

NOTE: Do not place charging stand in an area of

extreme heat or cold. It will work best at normal

room temperature.

WARNING: To reduce the risk of injury,

charge only original equipment nickel-

cadmium rechargeable batteries. Other

types of batteries may burst, causing

personal injury or damage.

3. Slide the charger onto the battery, from the battery’s

square end (Fig. 2).

4. Push hard to snap the battery into place. Be sure the

contacts on the battery engage properly with the

contacts on the charger (Fig. 2).

NOTE: The red light will go on when the battery is

charging.

5. Charge the unit for a minimum of 8 hours before the

first use.

6. The battery should be charged for a minimum of 8

hours between each use. The unit operating time

and the life of the battery will be shortened if you

don’t follow this procedure.

NOTE: The battery will become slightly warm to the

touch while charging. This is normal and does

not indicate a problem.

7. After charging, disconnect the 14.4V charger from

the wall outlet and remove the battery from the

charging stand (Fig. 3).

Indicator Lights

The green light will come on to indicate that the charger

is receiving power. This light will illuminate when the

barrel connector is inserted into the charger and the

charger is plugged into a socket (Fig. 4).

When the red light is on, the battery is being charged.

If the light fails to turn on, check the following:

a. Barrel connector has been properly installed into the

charging stand.

b. 14.4V charger has been plugged into the wall outlet.

c. Battery is firmly seated in the charging stand.

d.Power is on at the wall outlet.

NOTE: If the wall outlet is operated by a switch, be sure

the switch is ON.

WARNING: To prevent serious personal

injury, if the wall outlet is not working

properly, have the wall outlet checked by a

qualified electrician.

ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS

Charging Tips for Maximum Performance

• Store and charge the unit where temperatures are

between 50˚ F (10˚ C) and 100˚ F (38˚ C). Storing the

unit or batteries above 100˚ F (38˚ C) will reduce

battery life.

• Storage below 50˚ F (10˚ C) will not reduce battery

life, but may require a longer charging time.

NOTE: The charging indicator light will remain lit when

the battery is properly installed in the charging

stand.

Temperature Effects on Charging Time

• 50˚ F (10˚ C) to 100˚ F (38˚ C) – Battery will be

charged within 24 hours.

• 40˚ F (4 ˚C) to 50˚ F (10˚ C) – Battery will require up to

48 hours for a full charge.

• Below 40˚ F (4 ˚C) – Battery will not reach full charge.

NOTE: Unit run time will be reduced when the battery is

not fully charged.

INSTALLING AND REMOVING THE BATTERY

(TB24HTB only)

1. Align the ridges on both sides of the battery’s center

platform with the channel on the rear of the unit

housing (Fig. 5).

2. Slide the battery along this channel until the battery

and latch snap into place. Make sure the battery is

secured in the unit before beginning operation.

To remove the battery, locate the latch on the end of the

battery. Hold the unit securely, then push down on the

latch with your thumb and slide out the battery (Fig. 6).

CAUTION: When placing a battery in your

unit, be sure the battery ridges slide in the

housing channel, and that the battery snaps

into place. Improper assembly can case

damage to internal components.

The trimmer will stop if you release either the trigger or

safety switch.

To start the unit:

1. Make sure the power cord is plugged in (TB24HT) or

the battery is securely inserted (TB24HTB).

2. With the blade facing away, hold the unit by the front

and rear handles (Fig. 8).

3. Start the unit in a position where the blades will not

bind with the hedge to be trimmed.

EXTENSION CORD RETAINER (TB24HT only)

There is an extension cord retainer to prevent the

extension cord from disconnecting during use. It is

located on the end of the power cord (Fig. 9).

To secure both cords, form a loop with the extension

cord and push it into the retainer clips.

WARNING: Battery tools do not have to be

plugged in; they are always in operating

condition. Avoid unintentional starting,

never carry unit with a finger on the trigger.

STARTING/STOPPING INSTRUCTIONS

Your hedge trimmer is equipped with a safety switch,

that reduces the possibility of accidental starting. The

safety switch is located on the front handle (Fig 7).

You must press both the safety switch and trigger switch

in order to start the unit.

WARNING: To prevent serious personal

injury, keep hands away from blades. Do not

attempt to remove cut material or hold material

to be cut when blades are moving. Make sure

unit is unplugged and the switch is off when

clearing jammed material from blades. Do not

grasp the exposed cutting blades or cutting

edges when picking up or holding the unit.

• If desired, you can use a string to help cut your hedge

level. Decide how high you want the hedge. Then,

stretch a piece of string along the hedge at this height.

Trim the hedge just above this guide line of string. Trim

the side of a hedge so that it will be slightly narrower at

the top (Fig. 10). More of the hedge will be exposed

when shaped this way, and it will be more uniform.

• Wear gloves when trimming thorny or prickly growth.

When trimming new growth, use a wide sweeping

action, so that the stems are fed directly into the

cutting blade. Older growth will have thicker stems and

will be trimmed easiest by using a sawing movement.

• Do not try to cut stems that are larger than 3/8 inch

thick, or those obviously too large to feed into the

cutting blade. Use a non-powered hand saw or

pruning saw to trim large stems.

• Use hedge trimmer properly. Before starting hedge

trimmer, hold the unit with both hands and face the

cutting blade away from you.

• Always keep the cord behind the hedge trimmer when

in use. Do not place it over the hedge where it may be

cut by the blade.

DANGER: If the blade jams on any electrical

cord or line, DO NOT TOUCH THE BLADE. IT

CAN BECOME ELECTRICALLY LIVE AND

VERY DANGEROUS. Continue to hold your

trimmer by the insulated handles and

immediately disconnect the damaged

electrical cord or line from the power source.

Failure to heed this warning will result in

serious or fatal personal injury.

USING THE HEDGE TRIMMER

Use the hedge trimmer for trimming and forming hedges,

shrubs and bushes that have a branch diameter of up to

3/8 of an inch.

WARNING: Do not operate your trimmer

until any missing, damaged, or broken

parts have been replaced. Failure to do so

could result in serious personal injury.

WARNING: To prevent serious personal

injury, always use both the front handle and

rear handle to hold the hedge trimmer

during operation.

For your protection, there is a blade guard between the

front handle and the blade.

Follow these general trimming techniques:

• Keep from trimming too much at one time. This can

cause the blades to bind and slow, reducing the

cutting efficiency.

• Do not force the unit through dense growth. If the

blades slow down, reduce your pace.

WARNING: Clear the area to be cut before

each use. Remove all objects like cords,

lights, wire, or string which can become

entangled in the cutting blade.

WARNING: Never use guard as a handle.

Never grasp the unit by the guard. Failure

to heed this warning can result in serious

personal injury.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS

WARNING: To avoid serious personal injury,

always turn your trimmer off and unplug it

before you clean or service it.

SERVICING DOUBLE INSULATED UNITS

This unit is double-insulated. In a double-insulated unit,

two systems of insulation are provided instead of

grounding. There is no grounding provided and no

means of grounding should be added to this unit.

Extreme care and knowledge of the system is required

when servicing a double-insulated unit. Service should

be performed by qualified service personnel only.

Replacement parts for a double-insulated unit must be

identical to the parts they replace. Refer any repair to an

authorized service dealer. A double-insulated unit is

marked with the words “double insulation” or “double

insulated.”

CLEANING

Switch off the unit and disconnect it from the power

source. Use a small brush to clean off the outside of the

unit. Do not use strong detergents. Household cleaners

that contain aromatic oils such as pine and lemon, and

solvents such as kerosene, can damage plastic housing

or handle. Wipe off any moisture with a soft cloth. Also

keep the air vents free of obstructions.

INSPECT EXTENSION CORDS

Inspect all extension cords. Look closely for deterioration,

cuts or cracks in the insulation. Inspect the connectors for

damage. Replace a damaged or defective cord.

STORAGE

• Allow the unit to col before storing.

• Lock the unit to prevent unauthorized use or damage.

• Store the unit in a dry, well-ventilated area.

• Store the unit out of the reach of children.

CHECK FOR DAMAGED/WORN PARTS

Before each use, check for damaged parts. Before

further use of the unit, a guard or other part that is

damaged should be carefully checked to determine that

it will operate properly and perform its intended function.

Check for alignment of moving parts, binding of moving

parts, breakage of parts, mounting, and any other

condition that may effect the units operation. A guard or

other part that is damaged should be properly repaired

or replaced by an authorized service dealer unless

indicated elsewhere in this manual.

LUBRICATING THE BLADE

To lubricate the cutting blade, disconnect the hedge

trimmer from the power supply.

For easier operation and longer blade life, lubricate the

hedge trimmer blade before and after each use. Before

lubricating, be sure the unit is off and disconnected from

the power supply. Apply light machine oil along the edge

of the top strap (Fig. 12).

Occasionally stop, disconnect, and oil your trimmer

during use.

WARNING: You will need to connect the

unit to power during these procedures. To

avoid serious personal injury, be sure to

pay attention to the instructions and

DISCONNECT the power when stated.

CAUTION: Some spray-on lubricants

contain solvents and will cause some types

of grease to break-down. To prevent

damage to the unit, only use a quality

machine oil.

SHARPENING THE BLADE

1. Allow your hedge trimmer to come to a stop with the

cutter blade and guard positioned as shown in

Figure 11. This will allow clearance for the file

2. Disconnect the hedge trimmer from the power supply.

3. Clamp the blade assembly in a vise and file the

exposed cutting surface of each blade tooth with an

8 inch fine round file, with a 1/4 or 7/32 inch

diameter. Be sure to retain the tooth’s original angle

when filing.

4. Remove the hedge trimmer from the vise, restart it,

and stop it so that the unsharpened edges of the

blade teeth are exposed.

5. Disconnect the tool and repeat the sharpening pro-

cedure as described above.

l’appareil et son support de charge avant d’utiliser ce dernier.

• N’exposez pas le chargeur à la pluie ou à la neige.

• Afin de réduire les risques de blessures, chargez uniquement

les batteries ni-cad. Les autres types de batteries peuvent

exploser en causant blessures et dommages.

• Pour éviter d’endommager le corps du chargeur et son cordon,

tirez sur le premier au moment de débrancher le chargeur.

• Placez le cordon du chargeur de façon qu’il ne soit pas

piétiné, accroché ou endommagé d’une manière quelconque.

• N'utilisez pas le chargeur si le cordon ou la prise est

endommagée, sinon remplacez-les immédiatement.

• N’utilisez pas le chargeur s’il a reçu un coup dur, est tombé

ou a été endommagé. Si le boîtier du chargeur est

endommagé, remplacez le chargeur.

• Ne démontez par le chargeur car il n'est pas conçu pour cela

et vous risquez de provoquer l'électrocution ou un incendie.

• Pour diminuer les risques d’électrocution, débranchez le

chargeur de la prise avant tout entretien ou nettoyage.

• N'utilisez pas le chargeur en plein air.

• Utilisez uniquement une batterie de type et de format

suivants : batterie ni-cad 14.4 volts c.c.

• Ne jetez pas la batterie dans le feu car ses éléments

pourraient exploser. Recyclez la batterie. Consultez à ce

sujet vos responsables locaux en matière de recyclage et de

mise au rebut ou bien appelez le 1-800-8 BATTERY.

• Ne chargez pas la batterie sous la pluie ou dans un lieu humide.

• Manipulez la batterie avec soin afin de ne pas provoquer de

court-circuit avec des objets conducteurs tel que des anneaux,

des bracelets ou des clés. La batterie ou l’objet conducteur

pourrait en effet surchauffer et causer des brûlures.

• Chargez la batterie dans un endroit où la température se

situe entre 10ºC (50ºF) et 38ºC (100ºF).

• Évitez d’ouvrir ou d’endommager la batterie. Une fois

relâché, l’électrolyte, qui est corrosif, peut endommager les

yeux ou la peau. Il peut aussi être toxique s’il est avalé.

AVERTISSEMENT: Pour réduire le risque d’incendie,

de choc électrique et de préjudice corporel, veillez à

toujours respecter les précautions élémentaires de

sécurité, chaque fois que vous utilisez des outils de

jardinage électriques. Avant d’utiliser votre taille haies,

veillez à lire soigneusement et à bien comprendre son

manuel d’utilisation. Focalisez votre attention plus

particulièrement sur les instructions de

fonctionnement et les recommandations de sécurité.

LIRE TOUTES LES INSTRUCTIONS

* La grosseur du fil (AWG) pour l’ampérage de 12 à 19

ampères est de 14 AWG pour 25 pieds, de 12 AWG pour 50

pieds et n’est pas recommandé pour 100 ou 150 pieds.

• JEUX DE CORDONS: Vérifiez que votre jeu de cordons est en

bon état de fonctionnement. Si vous utilisez un jeu de cordons,

assurez vous de bien utiliser un cordon de calibre suffisant pour

laisser passer le courant de charge de votre appareil. Un jeu de

cordons à section trop faible risque de provoquer des chutes de

tension de ligne, qui entraînent une perte de puissance et une

surchauffe. Le tableau ci-dessous donne les calibres corrects à

utiliser, en fonction de la longueur du cordon et de la valeur de

l’intensité nominale. En cas de doute, utilisez la section de câble

immédiate-ment supérieure. Un numéro de calibre faible

correspond à une forte section de câble. Référez vous à la Mode

D’emploi pour réduire le risque de débranchement du cordon de

l’appareil pendant le fonctionnement, du jeu de cordons.

• Le(s) circuit(s) électrique(s) ou la(les) prise(s) d’alimentation de

cet outil de jardinage doit(doivent) comporter une protection

de type GFCI (qui coupe le circuit en cas de défaut de terre). Il

existe des prises qui comportent une protection GFCI, et que

l’on peut utiliser dans ce cas de figure.

• Votre appareil est pourvu d’une plaquette du constructeur, qui

indique le type de tension à utiliser. N’alimentez jamais cet

appareil avec une tension alternative différente de celle affichée.

• Procédez à une inspection périodique de vos rallonges

électriques et de la fiche de raccord de votre appareil. Examinez

plus particulièrement l’isolation qui ne doit pas présenter de

traces de détérioration, de coupures ou de mise à nu. Inspectez

également les raccords qui doivent être en bon état. Si les

cordons paraissent endommagés, remplacez les ou réparez les.

• Evitez d’utiliser cet appareil dans des conditions dangereuses.

Ne le faites jamais fonctionner en atmosphère humide ou

mouillée. L’humidité constitue un danger réel de choc électrique.

• N’utilisez pas cet appareil sous la pluie.

• Ne touchez pas la fiche ou l’appareil lui même si vos mains

sont mouillées.

PENDANT L'UTILISATION DE L'APPAREIL

• Portez des lunettes de sécurité conformes aux normes ANSI

Z87.1 ainsi que des protège-oreilles durant l'utilisation de

l'appareil. Portez un masque facial ou antipoussières si vous

travaillez dans un lieu poussiéreux.

• Risque de coupure. Tenez-vous à l'écart des lames. Gardez les

deux mains sur les poignées lorsque l’appareil est sous tension.

• Portez des pantalons épais et longs, des bottes, des gants et

une chemise à manches longues. Ne marchez pas pieds nus

et évitez les vêtements lâches, bijoux, pantalons courts et

sandales. Relevez les cheveux au-dessus des épaules.

• Ne retirez pas les matériaux coupés et ne tenez pas les

matériaux à couper lorsque les lames tournent. Assurez-vous

que l’appareil est débranché et que l’interrupteur est hors

tension avant de dégager des matériaux coincés dans les

lames. Ne saisissez pas les lames de coupe ou les bords

tranchants exposés pour soulever ou tenir l’appareil.

• MISE EN GARDE : Les lames continuent de tourner à vide

une fois l’appareil éteint.

• Le protecteur d'accessoire de coupe doit toujours être en

place lors de l'utilisation de l'appareil. Ne faites pas marcher

l'appareil sans que les deux fils soient bien déployés, en

supposant qu'un fil approprié a été installé. Assurez-vous

que le fil ne dépasse pas le protecteur de sécurité.

• N'utilisez l'appareil qu'en plein jour ou avec un bon éclairage artificiel.

• Évitez tout démarrage accidentel. Ne transportez pas

l'appareil branché, le doigt sur l’interrupteur. Mettez ce

dernier hors tension avant de brancher.

• Ne vous étirez pas et n’utilisez pas l’appareil à partir de

surfaces instables tel qu’échelles, arbres, pentes abruptes,

toits, etc. Tenez-vous toujours fermement sur les pieds en

position d'équilibre.

• Servez-vous des outils appropriés. N'utilisez cet outil que

pour son usage prévu.

• Tenez toujours le taille-haies des deux mains lorsqu’il est en

marche. Agrippez fermement la poignée du boîtier et la

poignée avant. Ne saisissez jamais l’appareil par la

protection. Celle-ci n’est pas une poignée.

•

Arrêtez toujours le moteur lorsque vous suspendez la coupe ou

lorsque vous vous déplacez d'un lieu de travail vers un autre.

• Si vous heurtez un corps étranger ou que celui-ci est happé,

arrêtez le moteur immédiatement et vérifiez que rien n'a été

endommagé. Ne faites pas fonctionner avant réparation des

dommages. Ne faites pas marcher l'appareil si les pièces

sont desserrées ou endommagées.

• Arrêtez et éteignez le moteur dans les cas suivants: entretien,

réparation ou changement.

• Gardez l'appareil exempt d'accumulation de végétation ou

autres matières. Celles-ci peuvent rester logées entre

l'accessoire de coupe et le protecteur.

AUTRES AVERTISSEMENTS DE SÉCURITÉ

• Attachez bien l'appareil pendant le transport.

• Rangez l'appareil dans un endroit verrouillé et sec, ou élevé

et sec, hors de portée des enfants, pour éviter une utilisation

indésirable ou un accident.

• Ne trempez et n'arrosez jamais l'appareil avec de l'eau ou

tout autre liquide. Gardez les poignées sèches, propres et

exemptes de débris. Nettoyez après chaque usage. Voir les

sections Nettoyage et Entreposage.

• Conservez ces instructions. Consultez-les souvent et servez-

vous en pour instruire d'autres usagers. Si vous prêtez

l'appareil à quelqu'un, prêtez-lui également ces instructions.

• Cet outil comporte une isolation double. Tout cordon

électrique endommagé doit être réparé ou remplacé.

• A. Comme cet outil comporte une isolation double, il est donc

possible d’utiliser des rallonges à 2 conducteurs (rallonges sans

terre). Cependant, il est tout à fait possible d’utiliser des

rallonges à 3 conducteurs (rallonges avec fil de terre), qui

comportent des fiches de type NEMA (fiches parallèles, fiche

terre en forme de U). Ces rallonges sont disponibles auprès de

votre revendeur local. Veillez à n’utiliser que des rallonges à

section circulaire, approuvées pour une utilisation extérieure.

• Pour réduire le risque de choc électrique, cet appareil est

pourvu d’une fiche polarisée (une lame est plus large que

l’autre). Cet appareil ne être inséré dans une prise polarisée que

d’une seule manière. S’il n’est pas possible d’insérer

entièrement la fiche dans la prise, essayez de brancher la fiche

dans l’autre sens. Si malgré tout, il n’est pas possible d’insérer

la fiche, remplacez le cordon par un cordon qui comporte les

bonnes fiches. Ne modifiez cet appareil en aucun cas.

Après avoir sorti votre coupe-bordures de son carton,

sortez tout le contenu du sac en plastique. Installez le

bouclier de sécurité de la façon suivante :

1. Placez le bouclier de sécurité sur le coupe-bordures,

à la base de la lame de coupe (Fig. 1).

2. Alignez les trous des vis dans le bouclier avec ceux

du coupe-bordures (Fig. 1).

3. Insérez une vis dans chaque extrémité du bouclier

de protection en vous servant d’un tournevis

cruciforme. Évitez de trop serrer.

AVERTISSEMENT : n'utilisez jamais la

désherbeuse sans bouclier de sécurité pour

éviter des blessures graves.

CHARGEMENT DE LA BATTERIE

(TB24HTB seulement)

La batterie de cet appareil est livrée avec une faible

charge pour éviter tout risque potentiel. Elle doit donc

être chargée pendant 8 heures au moins avant utilisation.

REMARQUE: Les batteries ne chargent pas

complètement dès la première fois. Il faudra

plusieurs cycles de coupe/charge avant que les

batteries ne soient chargées au maximum.

1. Pour recharger la batterie, se servir uniquement du

chargeur 14.4V fourni avec la machine.

2. Brancher le chargeur 14.4V dans la prise de courant,

et sa fiche en forme de barillet dans le support de

charge (Fig. 3). S'assurer que la prise électrique est

bien une prise normale de maison, alimentant un

courant alternatif d'une tension de 120 V à 60 Hz.

REMARQUE: Ne pas placer le support de charge dans

un endroit soumis à une chaleur ou à un froid

extrême. Le support de charge fonctionnera le

mieux à une température ambiante normale.

AVERTISSEMENT: Pour réduire le risque

de blessures, il convient de recharger

uniquement des batteries rechargeables au

nickel cadmium. Les autres types de

batteries pourraient exploser et causer des

blessures ou des dégâts matériels.

3. Faites glisser le chargeur dans la batterie, de

l’extrémité carrée de la batterie (Fig. 2).

4. Poussez fermement pour que la batterie se verrouille

en place. Permettre aux contacts de la batterie de

s'enficher dans les contacts du support de charge

(Fig. 2).

REMARQUE: Lorsque le témoin rouge s'illumine, la

batterie est en état de charge.

5. Charger la batterie pendant au moins 8 heures avant

sa première utilisation.

6. La batterie doit être chargée pendant 8 heures au

moins entre chaque utilisation. La durée de

fonctionnement de l’appareil et la durée de vie de la

batterie seront raccourcies si cette procédure n’est

pas respectée.

• Rangez et chargez l'appareil dans un endroit où les

températures se situent entre 10ºC (50ºF) et 38ºC

(100ºF). Un stockage de l’appareil ou de la batterie à

des températures supérieures à 38ºC (100ºF) réduira la

vie de la batterie.

• Un stockage à moins de 10ºC (50ºF) ne la réduira pas

mais rallongera le temps de charge.

REMARQUE: L’indicateur de charge reste allumé

lorsque la batterie est bien installée sur le

support de charge.

Effets de la température sur les temps de charge

• De 10ºC (50ºF) à 38ºC (100ºF) – Batterie chargée en

moins de 24 heures.

•De 4ºC (40ºF) à 10ºC (50ºF) – La charge peut

nécessiter jusqu’à 48 heures.

•Moins de 4ºC (40ºF) – La batterie ne sera pas chargée

complètement.

REMARQUE: Le temps de fonctionnement sera réduit

si la batterie n’est pas complètement chargée.

REMARQUE: Pendant la charge, la batterie émet un

peu de chaleur. Ceci est normal est n'est pas

synonyme de problème.

7. Une fois que la batterie est chargée, débrancher le

chargeur de 14.4V de la prise électrique, et retirer la

batterie du support de charge (Fig. 3).

Indicateurs de charge

Le témoin vert s’allumera pour indiquer que le chargeur

reçoit du courant. Ce témoin s’allume lorsque le connecteur

cylindrique est inséré dans le chargeur et lorsque le

chargeur est branché à une prise de courant. (Fig. 4).

Lorsque le témoin rouge s'illumine, la batterie est en état

de charge.

Si le témoin ne s'illumine pas, vérifier les points suivants:

a.a fiche en forme de barillet est correctement insérée

dans le support de charge

b.le chargeur de 14.4V est bien branché dans la prise

électrique murale

c.la batterie est bien ancrée dans le support de charge

d.Prise murale sous tension.

REMARQUE: Si la prise murale fonctionne par

interrupteur, mettez-le sous tension.

AVERTISSEMENT : Pour éviter des

blessures graves, faites vérifier la prise par

un électricien qualifié si elle ne fonctionne

pas correctement.

INSTALLATION ET RETRAIT DE LA BATTERIE

(TB24HTB seulement)

1. Alignez les nervures des deux côtés de la plate-

forme centrale de la batterie avec la rainure à l’arrière

du logement de l’appareil (Fig. 5).

2. Faites glisser la batterie le long de cette rainure

jusqu’à ce que la batterie et le loquet se verrouillent

en place. Assurez-vous que la batterie est bien mise

dans l’appareil avant d’utiliser celui-ci.

Pour sortir la batterie, trouvez le loquet à l’extrémité de

la batterie. Tenez l’appareil fermement, puis appuyez sur

le loquet avec le pouce et faites glisser la batterie dehors

(Fig. 6).

MISE EN GARDE : Au moment de placer la

batterie dans l’appareil, assurez-vous les

nervures de la batterie glissent dans la rainure

du logement et la batterie se verrouille en

place. Une mauvaise installation de la

batterie peut endommager les composants

internes.

INSTRUCTIONS DE DEMARRAGE ET ARRET

Votre coupe-bordures est équipé d’un interrupteur de

sécurité qui réduit la possibilité de démarrage

accidentel. L’interrupteur de sécurité est situé sur la

poignée avant (Fig 7).

Vous devez appuyer sur l’interrupteur de sécurité et

l’interrupteur de déclenchement en même temps pour

faire démarrer l’appareil.

Le coupe-bordures s’arrêtera si vous relâchez

l’interrupteur de déclenchement ou l’interrupteur de

sécurité.

Pour démarrer l’appareil :

1. Assurez-vous que le cordon d’alimentation est

branché (TB24HT) et que la batterie est insérée

comme il se doit (TB24HTB).

2. Dirigez la lame loin de vous et tenez l’appareil par la

poignée avant et arrière (Fig. 8).

3. Démarrez l’appareil en éloignant les lames de la haie

à tailler.

Il y a un arrêt pour la rallonge pour empêcher qu’elle se

ne débranche pendant l’utilisation. Elle est située à

l’extrémité du cordon d’alimentation (Fig. 9).

Pour attacher les deux cordons, formez une boucle avec

la rallonge et poussez-la dans les attaches de fixation.

AVERTISSEMENT : Les appareils à batterie

peuvent fonctionner à tout moment car il

n’est pas nécessaire de les brancher sur une

prise. Pour éviter tout démarrage accidentel,

ne transportez jamais l’appareil le doigt sur la

détente.
