This guide provides instructions to initially setup the N4 (4 channel), N8 (8 channel), N16 (16 channel) and N32 (32 channel) network video
recorders (NVRs). The NVRs support these advanced features:

Installing the System
Step 1. Getting Started: Unpacking the Equipment

Mouse control
A standard 3-button (left / right / scroll-wheel) USB mouse can also be used with this NVR. To use a USB mouse:
1. Plug the USB mouse into the either the front panel or back panel USB connector of the NVR.
2. When the recorder is powered on, the mouse will be automatically detected. If the mouse is not detected, the mouse may not be
compatible with the NVR. Please refer to the recommended device list from your provider.
Using the mouse
1. Left Button:
Click to select menu options.
During live viewing in split-screen view, double-click on a channel to view it in full-screen. Double-click the channel again to
return to split-screen viewing.
Click upon a channel on Live Viewing screen to open Camera Quick Toolbar.
Click and hold to drag sliders and scales on menu mode
2. Right Button:
Click once to open the taskbar on the Live Viewing screen.
In menus, click to go back or close the menu.
3. Scroll Wheel:
In menus, scroll to move up / down through the menu content.
While hovering over the volume control wheel, scroll to turn system volume up / down.

4. Unpackage your HDD.
5. Connect a SATA cable and one of the HDD power cables to the HDD as shown in the picture below on the left.
6. Place the HDD in the chassis as shown below, sliding the HDD SATA + power connector onto the PC board SATA + power connector.
7. Holding the HDD in place, turn over the NVR with the HDD, and then use four (4) screws to attach the HDD to the chassis.

Remote control
Remove the equipment from its packaging and place it on a at, clean surface. Inspect each item. If any visible damage is present, contact
your supplier for a replacement. Verify that your order is complete.
What you need
Although each security system installation is dierent, most require the following items not included with your system components:
Cameras and cables compatible with the NVR. The LAN1 .. LAN16 connectors on the back panel support many types of IP cameras. See
the Specications section of this guide for more information.
IP cameras installed on the Ethernet network (LAN) associated with the NVR must be compatible. Check the Specications section of
this guide for more information.
Tools to install the cameras and route power and cables
VGA or HDMI compatible computer monitor to connect to the NVR.
Un-interuptable power supply (UPS) is recommended. This UPS is used to ensure system stability during voltage surges, sags, and
outages. If a UPS is not available, a power strip with strong surge protection is highly recommended.
Step 2. HDD installation
Skip this step if your NVR was purchased with an HDD and you do not need to change the HDD hardware in your recorder.
Use this step if you need to install or replace an HDD in your NVR. Your recorder must have an HDD to record data locally. N4, N8 and N16
NVRs accommodate 1 HDD, up to 8 TB. N32 NVRs can accommodate up to 4 HDDs, up to 8TB each. For lasting performance and reliability,
install only security grade HDDs in your NVR.
Two HDD installation procedures are included here: one for the N4, N8 and N16 NVRs, and one for the N32 NVR.
N4, N8, N16 HDD installation
The chassis is designed to accommodate one 3.5 inch or 2.5 inch HDD, with an HDD capacity up to 8 TB. Additionally, the HDD should be
formatted using the NVR’s embedded rmware before use. The example shown here is for an N8 NVR.
To install a 3.5 inch HDD:
1. Disconnect all cables attached to the NVR.
2. Lay the NVR on a clean, at table, and then remove the ve cover screws. Three cover screws are on the backpanel (see below), and
one cover screw is on each side of the chassis.

3. Slide the cover toward the back, then lift it away from the NVR chassis.

4. To install an HDD in a bay:
a. Remove the screws for the two HDD brackets in the bay. If one HDD is already installed in the disconnect the cables from the
HDD.
b. Remove the HDD brackets from the bay.
c. Attach the HDD(s) to the HDD brackets as shown in the picture below. Use two screws (special screws provided) on each side
of an HDD.

d. Reinstall the HDD brackets with the HDD(s) into the bay with the HDD connectors toward the center of the chassis. Use the
bracket screws removed earlier.

8. Lay the NVR on the table, top up. Verify that the SATA and power connector on the HDD is fully seated on the PC board connector.
9. Reinstall the NVR cover.
N32 HDD installation
The chassis is designed to accommodate up to four 3.5 inch HDDs with a capacity up to 8TB each. HDDs you install should be formatted
before use using the NVR’s embedded rmware.
To install an HDD:
1. Disconnect all cables attached to the NVR.
2. Lay the NVR on a clean, at table, and then remove the three cover screws on the backpanel (see below).

3. Slide the cover toward the backpanel, then lift it o the NVR chassis.
The NVR shown below has one HDD installed in the right bay. Each bay supports up to two HDDs. Note that four SATA data cables and
four power cables are attached to PC board.

Install a monitor, mouse, microphones, network, power etc
For the following steps, refer to the back panel photo above for the location of connectors.
1. Install and setup your monitor in accordance with the instructions provided with the monitor. Do not power it on at this time.
NOTE Some monitors have multiple inputs such including VGA ,HDMI, etc. If you are using this kind of monitor, congure your monitor to display
the input connected to your NVR (HDMI or VGA).
2. Cable the HDMI or VGA connector to your monitor’s HDMI or VGA input. The HDMI interface provides the best performance.
3. Plug the mouse provided into the USB 2.0 connector on the front or back of the NVR.
4. Plug a drop cable from your local area network (LAN) router into the RJ45 WAN connector on the back of the NVR.
5. If using speakers, plug your speaker set into the AUDIO OUT RCA female connector on the back of the NVR. The AUDIO OUT connector
provides a line level signal output. An audio adapter may be needed to connect your speaker set to the NVR RCA connector.
6. Connect the power cord with the 48 Vdc power adapter, and then connect the power adapter to the 48 V(DC) power connector on the
back panel of the NVR, and then into a UPS (recommended) or surge protector.
Power on the system
1. Apply power to your power adapter. Because the NVR does not have a power switch, applying power to the adapter will power on the
NVR.
2. Apply power to the monitor.
3. If using a speaker set, apply power to your speakers.
Step 5. Using the Wizard for basic configuration setup
When the NVR powers on, a “SYSTEM INITIALIZING” splash screen normally appears within 3 minutes. An a system activation screen will
appear.
Activation
If it is the rst time powering on the recorder, an activation screen will appear. You must use this menu to setup an admin password for the
system, and an Unlock Pattern, if preferred, for quickly accessing the conguration menus if the recorder.
e. Connect the SATA data and power cables to each HDD. See above.
5. Use the method described above to install additional HDDs if needed.
6. Reinstall the NVR cover.
Step 3. Install the NVR
1. Place the NVR in a location that is secure, well ventilated and clean. The NVR should be positioned such that the back panel connectors
are accessible and the ventilation holes on the top and sides are not blocked.
2. Connect the ground terminal on the back of the NVR (if available) to an earth ground. Refer to local electrical codes for grounding
requirements.
CAUTION
Do not apply power to the NVR at this time.
Step 4. Connect devices to the NVR
Your NVR security system is highly congurable and is designed meet most application requirements. Refer to the Specications section
for more information about the capacities of your NVR.
Cameras
Install your security cameras. Always follow the installation instructions provided with the camera.
1. Install the analog cameras that will connect to the LAN1 .. LAN8 connectors on the back of the NVR.
2. Route Ethernet extension cable(s) between the cameras and the NVR.
3. Connect the extension cable(s) to the camera(s) and the NVR.

5. Repeat the pattern you entered, and then click Apply to save the conguration. The conguration Wizard initial screen will open.
Using the Wizard for initial conguration
Use the Wizard to setup the basic conguration of your system. Advanced conguration options are available in the Setup menus. Refer to the
rmware user manual (to be provided) for your recorder for more information.
1. When the initial Wizard window appears, click Start Wizard to continue.
2. The next Wizard screen is used to congure the network settings of the recorder. Initially, the recorder acquires network using DHCP
(Dynamic Host Conguration Processor) which usually exists somewhere on your LAN. DHCP provides network settings that are
compatible with other devices on your LAN.
1. In the screen shown above, enter your admin password in the New Admin Password and Conrm Password elds (see below).
Ensure that the Password Strength of your password is at least Medium (preferably Strong).
NOTE If you forget your password, you will be unable to login the system, please contact your vendor to reset the password.
2. If you want to use an Unlock Pattern to access the conguration menus, open the Unlock Enable drop down list, and then click
Enable. Click Apply to continue.
3. Click the Draw button to open the Set Unlock Pattern window.
4. In the Set Unlock Pattern window, drag the mouse cursor across a pattern of circles, then release the mouse.

3. Use the Date/Time menu to set the Date, Time, Date Format, Time Format, Time Zone, NTP and DST (daylight savings time).
a. When changing parameters in the Date and Time tab, consider the following:
Date: Click on the calendar icon to set the system date.
Time: Click to set the system time.
Date Format: Choose from the drop down menu to set preferred date format.
Time Format: Choose time format between 24-hour and 12-hour.
Time Zone: Set the correct time zone.
b. Click the NTP tab. To use a Network Time server to automatically set the date and time in your recorder, check the Enable NTP
box, and then select a Server Address from the drop down list. Click Update Now to acquire the current Date and Time
information.
c. Click the DST (Daylight Savings Time) tab. Setup the values in the DST menu to match your local DST custom, if preferred.
a. It is preferred to have xed network settings instead of dynamic settings, however. To change from dynamic network settings
to xed settings, copy the settings found through DHCP for the Local Connection and DNS, uncheck the DHCP select box
near the top of the menu, then re-enter the DHCP Local Connection and DNS settings. You can also enter your own network
settings for the recorder (these must be compatible with other devices on the LAN). If you choose to enter your own network
parameters, consider the following:
IP Address: The IP address identies the NVR in the network. It consists of four groups of numbers between 0 to 255,
separated by periods. For example, “192.168.001.100”.
Subnet Mask: Subnet mask is a network parameter which denes a range of IP addresses that can be used in a network. If IP
address is like a street where you live then subnet mask is like a neighborhood. The subnet address also consists of four groups
of numbers, separated by periods. For example, “255.255.000.000.
Gateway: This address allows the NVR to access the Internet. The format of the Gateway address is the same as the IP Address.
For example, “192.168.001.001”.
DNS1/DNS2: DNS1 is the primary DNS server and DNS2 is a backup DNS server. Usually should be enough just to enter the
DNS1 server address.
b. You can also congure the ports the NVR. If you need to change the port numbers of your NVR, consider the following:
Web Port: This is the port that you will use to log in remotely to the NVR (e.g. using the Web Client). If the default port 80 is
already taken by other applications, please change it.
Client Port: This is the port that the NVR will use to send information through (e.g. using the mobile app). If the default port
9000 is already taken by other applications, please change it.
RTSP Port: This is the port that the NVR will be allowed to transmit real-time streaming to other device (e.g. using a streaming
Media player.).
HTTPS: HTTPS is the secure version of HTTP, the protocol over which data is sent between your browser and the website that
you are connected to. If you want to log in remotely to the NVR using Web Client, you need to complete the port forwarding in
your router. The default port number is 0443.
PPPoE: PPPoE is an advanced protocol that allows the DVR to connect to the network more directly via DSL modem. Check the
Enable PPPOE box, and then enter the User name and Password of the PPPoE.
c. Click Next to continue.

b. Click Search to nd IP cameras, and then click one of the IP camera in the device list.
c. Enter the parameters for the camera in the menu at the bottom.
IP Address/Domain: IP address or domain name of the IP camera
Alias: Name of the IP camera
Position: Position to display the camera name on the screen.
Port: Port of the IP camera
Protocol: Choose the protocol of the IP camera from the dropdown menu User Name: User Name of the IP camera
Password: Password of the IP camera
Bind channel: Choose a channel of the NVR you want to attach to.
d. Click Add.
8. Click Next to continue.
9. In the Disk menu, you can congure how your disk (HDD) will be used. The Overwrite (Auto) feature enables you to always keep the
previous (optional) days of data written to the HDD when the disk becomes full, and Format initializes the HDD for use in the recorder
and erases all data on the disk. If you installed HDDs in your recorder, it is strongly advised to format these drives before using your
recorder.
a. To congure the HDD for Overwrite:
i. Check the select box for the HDD you want to congure from the list above.
ii. Open the Overwrite drop down list, and then select Auto or the number of days you prefer.
b. To format an HDD:
If changing the DST settings, consider the following:
DST: Enable if Daylight Saving Time (DST) is observed in your region.
Time Oset: Select the amount of time to oset for DST
Time Mode: Choose to set the daylight saving time in weeks or in days
Start Time/End Time: Set the start time and end time for daylight saving.
4. Click Next to continue.
5. The camera menu allows you to add IP cameras on the network to the NVR. Click Search to search IP cameras in the same network.
Choose the IP camera(s) you want to add.
6. Choose the camera in the list on the left that you want to add, and then click the blue arrow to add it.
7. In the settings menu, enter the camera username and password, and then click Add.
a. You can also click the green dot with the + icon to add a camera.

13. In the Summary screen, you can:
Check the select box to Don’t show this window next time.
Click Previous to return to the Wizard screens and change your selections.
Click Finish to close the Wizard.
14. Click Finish to close the Wizard.
Step 6. Using the Live View screen - add camera
Click to add camera
1. To add a camera to a frame, click the + icon in the upper right corner.
2. In the Quick Add menu that opens, a list of cameras that can be added appears at the top. Click on the one you want to add to the
viewing frame.
3. Check the parameters in the menu to ensure they are correct (see above), and then click the Add button. Video from the camera will
appear in the viewing frame.
i. Check the select box for the HDD you want to format from the list above.
ii. Click the Format button. Allow the format operation to complete before continuing.
10. Click Next to continue.
11. Use the Resolution menu to select an output resolution that matches your monitor. The NVR automatically adjusts the output
resolution during start up to match the highest resolution of your monitor.
a. To change the resolution, open the drop down list, select the resolution you prefer, and then click Apply.
b. Click Next to continue.
The Mobile screen shows the P2P settings provided with your recorder, and a QR code you can scan to easily connect the NVR to the mobile
app HDVision (available free for Android and iOS).
12. Click Next to continue.
The Summary screen shows the settings selected the Wizard.

Task Menu Bar
The Task Menu Bar appears at the bottom of the screen when you right click on the Live View window or move the mouse to the bottom of
the screen.

Filter Panel
The Filter panel opens when the mouse cursor is moved to the right of the screen. It
provides links to playback recordings, and allows you to lter recordings by the alarm
type.
Click the Play icon in the thumbnail to open Search window and playback the recording.
See below.
Setup (Menu mode)
To open the Setup menus, click the icon in the lower right corner of the Task Menu Bar, and then click the Setup icon. Click the block
for the setup conguration you want to see or change. Using these menus may require authentication.
NOTE If the recorder is not in menu operation for one (1) minute, the screen will lock to prevent unauthorized OSD operations.
Refer to the NVR User Manual for more information about the setup features of your recorder.
