1ǃAfter the product equipped with Weichai diesel engine sold, the
sales contract information should be input to Weichai CRM system by the
dealer ˄or agent˅in time according to the requirements of Weichai, the
date of sale is the date of regulating finished for the diesel engine. If the
guarantee service of the engine is needed, the starting date of guarantee
should be according to the sales time stated in sales contract.
2ǃIf failure to input to sales contract, the purchase invoice should be
provided by user and the starting date of guarantee is the date stated in
invoices.
3ǃIf failure to input to sales contract and the purchase invoice can not
be provided by user, the starting date of guarantee should be as follows:
For the marine ˄generating˅ engine set or single engine, the
guarantee starts from 1 month after they have been delivered from
Weichai warehouse.
4ǃSo as the loss which been caused by the dealer ˄or agent˅who
failed to input the sale contract in time according to the requirements of
Weichai, the dealer ˄or agent˅should bear the loss of users and related
responsibility.

Special Attention
● In order to protect your legitimate right and interest, it is strictly forbidden
to remove the lead sealing of pump privately.
● Once the lead sealing of fuel injection pump is removed or adjusted, the
guarantee of our company becomes invalid.
● The fuel injection pump and fuel injector are precision units which can
not be disassembled by user, or the guarantee becomes invalid.
● The supercharger rotor shaft is precision high speed rotating unitˈit is
strictly forbidden to disassembling and collisionˈor the guarantee
becomes invalid.
● There are strict requirements on torque and turned angle for main
bearing bolt and connecting rod bolt of diesel engineˈloosening and
dismantling by user is forbidden, or the guarantee becomes invalid
● Each time before starting the diesel engine, check to see whether the
coolant is full and whether the engine oil is enough.
●Connecting rod bolt can be used only once and is not allowed to be
reused.
Before operating this diesel engine, the operator must
read carefully this operation manual.

Points for Attention
1. This diesel engine has been tested strictly in accordance with the test
stipulations before delivery from our company, and the throttle has been
limited by lead seal, it is not allowed to dismantle the lead seal for increas-
ing the diesel engine power at will. Or our company will not be responsible
for guarantee of repair, replacement and refund. Please pay your attention
to it.
2. The diesel engine operator must read carefully the operation and
maintenance manual, and strictly obey the operation and maintenance
procedures stipulated in the manual.
3. Before using a new engine, 50-hour test running should be done.
4. After the engine is started from cold state, the speed should be
increased slowly. It is forbidden to run the engine at high speed suddenly
and at idling for a long time. After running at high load, do not stop the
engine immediately, and run the engine at low speed and with no load for
5~10 min, and then stop the engine.
5. After the engine is stopped, if the environmental temperature is possible
to belower than 0? and no anti-freeze additive is used, the water in water
tank and in diesel engine should be drained off.
6. It is forbidden that the engine operates without air filter, so as to prevent
unfiltered air from entering into the cylinder.
7. The fuel and oil filled into the engine must be of specified brand and
filtered by strainer, and special clean containers should be used. The fuel
should be deposited for more than 72 hours.
8. Inspection and maintenance for electric system must be done by the
workers of mastering electric knowledge.
9. Preservation is conducted by WEICHAI POWER before ex-work for
prevention of rust and corrosion. Usually the preservation period of diesel
engine is one year. When the preservation period exceeds one year,
conduct inspection and adopt necessary supplementary measures.

1.2 The characteristics of Weichai special oil
1)Good ingredients are the guarantee of high-quality oil
Imported hydrocracking base oil and compound additives are favorable
to guarantee the good quality of lubricating oil.
2)Under normal use, oil drain interval can be extended by 3500-7000
kilometers (CH-4 can be extended by 10000 kilometers)
Outstanding high-temperature oxidation resistance and good Total
Base Number˄TBN˅retention can extend oil drain interval.
3)Professional protection can extend the engine life
Professional lubricating oil for high-power and high-load engines, which
can extend the engine life (special oil can be extended the engine life by
30~40%), has been developed based on a great deal of engine perfor-
mance and endurance tests.
4Better performance requirements
The engine performance can be improved in terms of abrasion
resistance, TBN retention, oxidation resistance, soot dispersion capacity,
fuel control as well as shear stability and the precipitate in turbocharger
can be reduced.
5)Saving energy
The energy-saving formula “low viscosity+ multi-polarity+ friction
modifier” is the guarantee of high-viscosity index and good film strength
and flexibility of Weichai special oil, which can ensure smooth operation,
low operation resistance and low fuel consumption of engines (fuel
consumption reduced by 3~8%).
6)Protecting environment: low ash, low sulphur and low phosphorous
The ash content is controlled within 1.0% in order to extend the life of
Diesel Particulate Filter <DPF>; the sulphur content is within 0.4% to
prevent the deactivation of oxidation catalystLJDOCLjand reduce particu-
lates; the phosphorus content is within 0.12% to prevent the deactivation
of oxidation catalystLJDOCLjand NOX control system; and volatility can
be controlled within13%DŽ

2.Precautions for Installation of WP12C
Series Marine Diesel Engine
2.1 Installation of Diesel Engine
WP12C Series marine diesel engine can be used in matching with
SAE I flywheel housing marine gear caseˈwhen installing, ensure the
coaxiality of diesel engine crankshaft with gear case input shaft. The
elastic coupling is used to connecte the diesel engine with gear caseˈ
and after coupling is butt-joinedˈno axial force is allowed to act on the
diesel engine crankshaftˈotherwise it will damage the thrust washer of
diesel engine.
2.2 Installation of Air Inlet System
The diesel engine air inlet should be arranged at the outside of the
engine compartment so as to ensure the fresh air is provided for diesel
engine. It is required to reduce elbow quantities of diesel engine intake
pipe as much as possible, and use large arc transition. The air inlet filter
should be provided with an additional protective cover to prevent the
water and dirty things from getting into diesel engine.
2.3 Installation of Exhaust System
The external exhaust pipe should be made of steel, excessive elbows
should be avoidedˈthe external exhaust pipe should be firmly fixed on
the ship hullˈand it is not allowable to have vibrationˈand its weight
should not be exerted on diesel engine expansion pipes.
After completion of the exhaust system installation, it is required the
exhaust pipe back pressure of diesel engine should not be greater than
6KPaˈotherwise it will affect the diesel engine performance. As the
exhaust pipe surface temperature is relatively high during operation of
diesel engineˈso it should be avoided to install exhaust pipe near
flammable objects. In order to prevent any accidents of injuring working
personnel, it is required to add heat insulation device on the external
exhaust pipe surface.
2.4 Installation of Cooling System

The internal cooling pipeline of diesel engine is already connected
properly before delivery of diesel engine from factoryˈso no installation
is required. Use anti-corrosion material for the cooling water pipelineˈ
reduce the elbows and length of the pipeline as much as possible. The
inner diameter of water pipe should not be less than that of connecting
component interface, so as to reduce the resistance of water pipelineˈ
and enhance the efficiency of sea water pump.
2.5 Precautions for Installation of Diesel Engine Front
End Output
The front end output pulley of diesel engine can be used to drive
small-sized machinery, such as water pump, generator, etc.ˈit should
be symmetrically arranged on two sides of the diesel engineˈand to
avoid the diesel engine crankshaft from being subjected to unidirectional
pull force. If it is necessary to drive large-sized machinery such as net-
hauling machineˈan elastic coupling must be used for connectionˈand
the installation should be conducted according to the requirements for
aligning accuracy of different couplings, and in service, its coaxial
accuracy should be periodically checked to ensure the alignment of
couplingˈotherwise it will damage parts and components of diesel
engine.
3.Maintenance and Service for WP12C Series
Marine Diesel Engine
The correct maintenance and service is an important link to ensure proper
and reliable operation of diesel engineˈand to prolong the service life of
diesel engine. The user should conduct the periodic maintenance and
service for the diesel engine according to the technical maintenance of this
chapter.
3.1 Maintenance Period of WP12C Series Marine Diesel
Engine
First inspection (P) Diesel engine running for 30̚50 hours
Level-1 maintenance (WD1) Diesel engine running for every 250 hours
Level-2 maintenance (WD2) Diesel engine running for every 500 hours
Level-3 maintenance (WD3) Diesel engine running for every 1000 hours
Level-4 maintenance (WD4) Diesel engine running for every 4000 hours
Note: The above maintenance period is calculated as the diesel engine running for
1500 hours per yearˈand if operating time of a diesel engine is less than 500 hours per
yearˈthen its maintenance period shall be 0.5 time as much as the above maintenance
periodˈif the operating time of a diesel engine is more than 1500 hoursˈthen its
maintenance period shall be l.5 time as much as the above maintenance period.
3.2 Main Work to Be Done When Inspection and Maintenance

3.3 Routine Maintenance of Diesel Engine
3.3.1 When diesel engine is in operation, pay attention to oil temperature, oil
pressure, diesel engine outlet water temperatureˈcheck the oil, water, air
for leakageˈif any abnormal case occurˈfind out the causes immediately
and remedy failures timely.
3.3.2 After diesel engine shutdown, check the quantity of fuel, fresh water
coolant, oilˈif it is insufficient , fill it to a specified quantity.
3.3.3 Drain water out from the fuel filter of the first stage.
3.3.4 Check the tension of drive beltˈif necessary, conduct the adjustment.
3.3.5 If the environmental temperature is lower than 0? and no anti-freeze
additive is used in coolant, it is necessary to completely drain the cooling
water to prevent damage to engine due to freezing.
3.4. Maintenance and Service of Diesel Engine during Long-
term Storage
3.4.1 Preservation method
Fill the lubrication system anti-corrosive agent into lubricating oilˈ
conduct pre-start preparation according to the normal running of diesel
engineˈstart and run the engine for 5̚10min and then stop the engineˈ
put the fuel system preservation oil into a clean containerˈdisconnect the
existing fuel inlet pipe of diesel engine and insert it into the containerˈ
remove the air from the fuel systemˈstart and run the diesel engine for
continuous operateion at 2ˋ3 rated speed for 15min and then stop the
engineˈuse the starter motor to drive the

preservation oil to spray the preservation oil to supercharger air inletˈuntil
exhaust pipe or supercharger exhaust discharges oil mist for 15S. Remove
the preservation oil pipelineˈuse plastic caps to close all the exposed pipe
openings. Apply anti-corrosion oil to all the unpainted surface of diesel
engine (except for diesel engine monitor instrument, rubber hose and diesel
engine warning plate). Wrap diesel engine with plastic bags, and place the
engine in a ventilated and dry room.

Note˖ķ Angle value is the angle to be tightened after the specified torque
is obtained.
ĸ There are corresponding requirements for strength rating of all bolts and nuts
used on this engine. The bolts and nut with the same specifications but with
different strength rating are not allowed to misfit and exchange.. It is not allowed to
exceed the limit of reusing timesˈotherwise it will cause serious consequence.
3.6 Operation Requirements of Diesel Engine
3.6.1 Depreservation work of new diesel engine
After the diesel engine container is unpackedˈthe user first should check
diesel engine and accessories according to packing list provided in deliveryˈ
check the exterior of diesel engine for damageˈconnection parts for
loosenessˈthen carry out the work as follows˖
(1) Wipe off the antirust coat of exposed parts and anti-corrosion agent, etc.
(2) Drain the preservation oil from the inside of fuel filter and fuel system compo-
nents (it is also allowed to start engine without draining the preserving oil from fuel
systemˈbut to run engine with load is allowed only when the preserving oil in fuel
system is consumed and the normal diesel fuel is delivered.)
However, the preservation period of diesel engine is one year. When the
preservation period exceeds one year, conduct inspection and adopt neces-
sary supplementary measures.
(3) Turn the flywheel and inject the solvent into intake pipe, until the
preservation oil inside cylinder is completely expelled.
(4) Inject the solvent into supercharger inlet and exhaust ports, until
the preservation oil inside is completely expelled.
(5) Add oil to diesel engine oil sump as specified.
(6) Fill the diesel engine cooling system with coolantˈthe coolant

3.6.2 Check and Preparation Prior to Starting
(1) Check the coolant level
The cooling level can be seen through glass inspection hole on the expansion
water tankˈif the coolant is not enoughˈopen the coolant filler cap to fill the
coolant. It is forbidden to add a large quantity of coolant while engine is in hot
state, because a great thermal change will damage the parts. If in an emergency
case there is no coolantˈit is allowed to slowly to add cold water with tempera-
ture not too low from the coolant fillerˈuntil the coolant is over-flown.
(2) Check the fuel level
(3) Check the engine oil level
Oil level should be at between the upper scale mark and lower scale marks of
the oil dipstickˈif necessary, add engine oil from the oil filler on the engine body.
(4) Check whether the connection of diesel engine accessories is reliableˈand
eliminate the abnormal phenomenon. Check whether the circuit wiring of start
system is normalˈand battery is adequately charged. Then open the valve of fuel
tankˈuse the hand pump on the delivery pump to expel air out of the fuel system.
3.6.3 Starting Diesel Engine
Turn on the instrument power switchˈset the throttle lever to a large fuel
quantity positionˈpush the starting buttonˈand if the engine is not started in 5
̚10 sec., repeat the above starting procedure about 1 min later. However, if
engine fails to start successively for three timesˈstop the startingˈfind out the
causes and eliminate the failure, and then make another attempt for the starting.
With the engine startedˈrelease the button immediately, and at the same
time, pay attention to readings of various instruments, the oil pressure gauge
should indicate pressure at once. Do not let the cold engine run at high speedˈ
it is required to run the engine at idle speed for a period of time, but the running
at idle speed should not be too long.
3.6.4 Stopping Diesel Engine
Before stopping engineˈfirst remove the loadˈthen reduce the engine speed
to 600̚1000rpmˈand wait a few minutes later, move the stop control handle to
shutdown the engine. After stopping, turn off the power of instrument.

3.6.5 Precaution for Operation
(1) With diesel engine startedˈfirst let engine run at idling for a few minutes,
then increase the engine speed to 1000̚1200 rpmˈapply a partial loadˈ
and only when the outlet water temperature is higher than 60ćˈoil tempera-
ture is higher than50ć, it is allowed to operate at full load condition.
Increased the load and speed graduallyˈand try as much as possible to
avoid a sudden application and removal of load.
(2) When diesel engine is within 60h running-in period, it is suitable to operate
the engine with medium load and below.
(3) It is not advisable to run engine at idling speed for a long timeˈbecause
at this time, failures such as oil leaks.
(4) In the normal operation of diesel engine, it is allowed to operate continu-
ously at rated power and rated rpmˈand however, if engine operates with
103ˁ of rated rpm and 110ˁ of rated powerˈit is only allowed to run 1 hour
for every 12 hours. With load removed from diesel engine, the engine can be
stopped only after idle running for 1-2 minutes.
(5) During operation, always pay attention to the parameters values and checking areas˖
Oil pressure of main oil passage is 350̚500KPa.
Oil temperature of oil sump <110ņ
Coolant outlet temperature 80+5ćˈit should not exceed 95ņ
Post turbine exhaust gas temperature <550ņ/
Air inlet temperature after intercooler is 55±5ņ/
Check the color of exhaust gas, through which, identify the work quality
and operation load condition of injector, if any serious color change is found,
stop the engine for check
Pay attention to checking the diesel engine for water leakage, air leakage, oil or
fuel leakageˈstop engine if any leakage is found, remove the trouble.
(6) Diesel engine operators should know the following characteristics of engine ˖
A) The fuel economy is the optimist with the engine medium speed ranging
from 60ˁ to 90ˁ of rated speed.
B) The engine power is increased with increase of the speedˈthe rated
power reaches at rated speed.
C) Carry out the inspection and maintenance according to periodic inspection
and technical service period of diesel engine (see Section 9 of this Chapter).
In case of emergency shutdown, it is not only to quickly move the fuel cutoff
handle to the stop positionˈbut can also rapidly cut off the fuel injection pump
delivery pipe or to block the air inlet of air filter to stop the engine.
3.6.6 Operation of Diesel Engine in Winter
(1) Fuel: Select and use the diesel fuel of different brands according to the
outdoor temperature in winter
(2) Oil: Select the oil with different viscosities according the different seasons
(3) Coolant˖ˈSelect and use different brands of anti-freeze additive and
with different quantities to add into the cooling system according to the
outdoor temperature
(4) Starting: In winter, auxiliary starter may be used in winter, if required.
High-speed running with load applied can only be conducted when the oil
pressure and water temperature are normal after engine starting
(5) Battery: Before beginning of winter season, check the electrolyte level,
viscosity and cell voltage. If the diesel engine is not used at very low tempera-
ture for a long time, remove the battery, and store it in a warm room.
(6) Engine shutdown: When stopping the engine under cold weather, first
remove load, then run the engine at idling speed for 1~2 min, stop engine only
after all temperatures drop down, and pay attention to that it is not allowed to
drain the coolant with anti-freeze additive after engine shutdown, and if the
coolant is not added with the anti-freeze additive, than it is necessary to open
water drainage valve or water plug on the engine body and on the cover of oil
cooler so as to completely drain the coolant to prevent damage to engine by
freezing.

Warranty Explanation
1. Service promises
In the service region of Weichai Maintenance and Service
Centre,
after received information from users and verifying that service is ne
eded, our maintenance team shall get to the place within 24 hours in
which the service centre is located, within 48 hours for city areas, and within
72 hours for remote areas.
( remote areas or force majeure factors excluded)
2. Special attention
● The engine operator must read the Operation and Maintenance
Manual carefully and abide by the operation rules in the Manual, and
pay attention to the warning directions and marks.
● The engine has been tested strictly in accordance with the test
stip
ulations before delivery. The throttle has been sealed. It is forbidden to di
smantle the seal optionally and to enlarge the throttle. Otherwise, Weichai
will not be responsible for free repair.
● Some bolts of the engine are strictly specified for torque
req
uirement and times of use. It is forbidden to loosen main bearing bolts and
connecting rod bolts. See Operation and Maintenance Manual for detail.
● Before using a new engine, a 50-hour commissioning should be
performed.
● After the engine is started from a cold state, do not increase
the
engine speed suddenly, and do not run at idle speed for a long time.
● After the engine is stopped, if the ambient temperature was lower
than
0°C and no antifreeze is used, the water in water tank and in diesel en
gine should be drained off.
● It is forbidden to operate the engine without a air cleaner and try
to pr
event unfiltered air from entering into the cylinder. In severe working
conditions, clean or replace the air filter element more frequently, so
as to prevent early abrasion of engine.
● Applied fuel and lubricating oil must be in accordance with
specified
grades and filtered by strainer, and a special clean container should be used.
The fuel should be settled for more than 72 hours.
3. The principle and stipulation of warranty service
● The principle of warranty Service
The engine purchased by users or fitted on other machinery, in case of
using and maintaining normally within the guarantee period, the damage or
trouble caused by manufacture and assembly etc. should be paid by our
company.
● Time limit of
warranty service
(shown in appendixtable)
(1) For the end product of our company, the starting date of
warranty
period is in accordance with the date on our sales invoice, warranty card or
the formal invoice of the distributor (It should be within the 12-month oil seal
period of the engine).
(2) For the matching products, the starting date of guarantee period is in
accordance with the date on sales invoice or warranty card of the matched
product ( It should be within the 12-month oil seal period of the engine).
4.Following conditions are excluded by warranty
● Early wear and trouble arising from improper operation and mainten
ance, e.g.: damages from careless load and unload during transportation
the engine by users, operation conditions beyond the specified range in
the operation manual, over-speed or over-load operation; run-in, inspection,
adjustment and tightening not abiding by the operation manual, improper
match, usage of incorrect fuel, oil or antifreeze etc.
● Troubles arising from refitting, adjusting and disassembling the posi
tions and parts that are not allowed to adjust and disassemble casually
according to the product specification.
● Oil, antifreeze, filter element, hose and belt etc. for normal operation
and maintenance are not in the range of warranty service
● No warranty card or valid invoice, or no evidence that proves the pr
oduct is in warranty period.
● The specification and model of product in the guarantee card or inv
oice differs from that of the requested product for three guarantees, or the

card and invoice was altered.
● Instead of maintaining the original damaged situation after trouble
occurs, user treats the trouble presumptuously and the reason or
trouble can not be verified.
