Important User Information
In order to lower the risk of personal injury, electric shock, fire or damage to equipment, users
must observe the following precautions, as well as good technical judgment, whenever
installing or using the product.
Eurotech S.p.A has made every effort to ensure the accuracy of this document; however, Eurotech
S.p.A. assumes no liability resulting from any error/omission in this document, or from the use of the
information contained herein.
Eurotech reserves the right to revise this document and to change its contents at any time without
obligation to notify any person of such revision or changes.
Safety Notices and Warnings
Users must observe the following safety precautions during all phases of operation, service, and repair
of the equipment. Failure to comply with these precautions or with specific warnings elsewhere in this
manual violates safety standards of design, manufacture, and intended use of the equipment.
Eurotech S.p.A. assumes no liability for the customer’s failure to comply with these requirements.
The safety precautions listed below represent warnings of certain dangers of which Eurotech is aware.
You, as the user of the product, should follow these warnings and all other safety precautions
necessary for the safe operation of the equipment in your operating environment.
Installation in Cupboards and Safes
When installing the product within a cupboard or safe, together with other heat generating equipment,
ensure appropriate ventilation.
Do Not Operate in an Explosive Atmosphere
Do not operate the equipment in the presence of flammable gases or fumes. Operation of any
electrical equipment in such an environment constitutes a definite safety hazard.
Keep Away From Live Circuits
Operating personnel must not remove equipment covers. Only Factory Authorized Service Personnel
or other qualified maintenance personnel may remove equipment covers for internal subassembly or
component replacement or any internal adjustment. Do not replace components with power cable
connected. Under certain conditions, dangerous voltages may exist even with the power cable
removed. To avoid injuries, always disconnect power and discharge circuits before touching them.
Do Not Operate in an Explosive Atmosphere
Do not operate the equipment in the presence of flammable gases or fumes. Operation of any
electrical equipment in such an environment constitutes a definite safety hazard.

Use an Appropriate Power Supply
Only start the product with a power supply that conforms to the voltage requirements as displayed on
the voltage label attached to the system. In case of uncertainty, please contact your local Eurotech
Tech
nical Support Team (see page 8) or your local electricity authority.
Only use power supplies that are compliant with the SELV regulations.
Always use certified power cables. The power cable must meet the products’ voltage and current
requirements.
Position cables with care. Avoid situation that may cause damage to the power cables. Take
particular care of the mains plug and sockets.
Avoid over-loading power-points
Antistatic Precautions
To avoid ESD (Electro Static Discharge) damage, always use appropriate antistatic precautions when
handing any electronic equipment.
Life Support Policy
Users must not use Eurotech products as critical components of life support devices or systems
without the express written approval of Eurotech S.p.A.
Warranty

CE Notice
This product has the CE labelling in accordance with the 1999/5/EC regulations.
Eurotech shall not be liable for use of its products with equipment (i.e. power
supplies, personal computers, etc.) that are not CE marked.

Compliance to European R&TTE Directive
This Product is intended for operation in the following Member States and other countries that
implement the R&TTE Directive: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark,
Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania,
Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain,
Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey and the United Kingdom.
In accordance to article 6(3) of 1999/5/EC, Eurotech herewith inform you about the national restrictions
and requirements for authorization in the following countries (see table below). The requirements for
any country may evolve. Eurotech recommends that you check with local authorities for the
latest status of their national regulations for both 2.4 and 5 GHz wireless LANs.

WEEE
The information below complies with the regulations set out in the 2002/96/EC directive, subsequently
superseded by 2003/108/EC. It refers electrical and electronic equipment and the waste management
of such products.
When disposing of a device, including all of its components, subassemblies and materials that are an
integral part of the product, you should consider the WEEE directive.
The use of the following symbol, attached to the equipment, packaging, instruction
literature, or the guarantee sheet, states that the device has been marketed after August
13th 2005, and implies that you must separate all of its components when possible, and
dispose of them in accordance with local waste disposal legislations:
Because of the substances present in the equipment, improper use or disposal of the refuse can
cause damage to human health and the environment.
With reference to WEEE, it is compulsory not to dispose of the equipment with normal urban refuse;
an arrangement for separate collection and disposal is essential.
To avoid any possible legal implications users should contact the local waste collection body for full
recycling information.
RoHS
This device, including all the components, subassemblies and the consumable materials that are an
integral part of the product, have been manufactured in compliance with the European directive
2002/95/EC known as the RoHS directive (Restrictions of the use of certain Hazardous Substances).
This directive targets the reduction of certain hazardous substances previously used in electrical and
electronic equipment (EEE).

Transportation
When transporting any module or system, for any reason, it should be packaged using anti-static
material and placed in a sturdy box with sufficient packing material to prevent damage.
Warning:
The products warranty will be void if any product returned to Eurotech and damaged as a direct result of
incorrect packaging or insufficient packaging!

Product Overview
The DC-1400 is a system ideal for developing applications that require a combination of precise GPS
positioning and wireless communication using either Wi-Fi or modern high speed cellular networks.
Multiple Ethernet ports can be used to interface external devices such as IP-cameras, IP-based digital
signage subsystems and other networked vehicle devices.
Four audio input and four audio output channels allow for the management of a broad selection of
audio devices. Multiple serial ports can be used to connect serial devices such as radio communication
devices.
The DC-1400 is available in several configurations with a wide choice of x86 processors.

Note:
The power ON and OFF is controlled by a dedicated digital input (Digital IN8).
There is an auto-retention circuit for controlling the power down procedure via software.

Note:
Serial1 and Serial2 are configured by the Setup of the CPU module.
If the Serial port is used in RS485 mode, the bi-directional line must be controlled via software, using the
Data Terminal Ready (DTR) signal of the serial controller. This signal is defined by bit ‘0’ of the UART
Modem Control Register (MCR) and the bi-directional line is controlled as follows:
Bit ‘0’ of the MCR register = ‘0’ means RS485 line receiving
Bit ‘0’ of the MCR register = ‘1’ means RS485 line transmitting
The I/O address of the MCR is the Serial port Base address +4h
The 120 Ohms termination resistor is absent.

Front Panel Interfaces (for maintenance)
On the front panel, there is the service panel that covers features useful for debugging and maintaining
the system. It is possible to remove the service panel by removing the two Torx T10 screws.
Warning:
The IP protection of the system will be degraded by the removal of the service panel

The usage of this connector is reserved.
Keyboard / Mouse port
This is a standard PS/2 interface for connecting a keyboard and mouse.
Within the CPU BIOS, the Mouse interface is disabled.
Note:

VGA port
This is a standard DB15 VGA monitor interface.

and antenna.
Country code selector provides flexibility to change regulatory domains.
Inside the system there is the radio equipment model CM10-HI, produced by “Unex Corporation”
(having head offices located in Taiwan).

This system has the hardware capabilities of a radio device. The European Member States
apply restrictions on the putting into service radio equipments as foreseen in Article 7(2) of
