4. Assembly
4.1 Safety instructions Ladder systems must always be installed vertically.
If the wall brackets are mounted with screw anchor systems, use only building-
authority approved screw anchor systems. The company carrying out installation
is responsible for the work and must examine the masonry thoroughly. In the event
of uncertainty, contact an expert for the planning of structural framework or a
specialist consultant from the company which manufactures the screw anchors
(mandatory in accordance with DIN 14094-1). The attachment of the individual wall
bracket must be capable of withstanding a total extraction force of 3 kN and, in
combination with a fall arrester system (e. g. the Zarges ZAST fall arrester system),
an impact force of 6 kN. Screw anchors are not included in the scope of delivery.
Where it is necessary to cut components to size, this work must be performed by
specialist personnel on-site.
> Deburr all edges.
> Restore anti-corrosion protection.
Screws and nuts:
> Use screws and nuts from ZARGES or screws and nuts of equivalent quality.
> Secure screwed connections with self-locking nuts.
> To ensure easy and safe assembly, use a suitable high-performance anti-wear
agent designed for heavy-duty use on stainless steel screws in the assembly area.
ZARGES recommends the product Chaast, manufactured by the Hebro company.

4.2.2 Order of assembly
As the setup will vary according to specific on-site conditions, there is no prescribed
order of assembly.
Recommendation:
Carry out assembly starting at the top and working towards the bottom. Observe the
prescribed dimensions and spacings.
The top rung must be flush with the edge of the building or machine.
The topmost wall bracket should ideally be attached in the area of the top two rungs.
If otherwise not possible, at least between the second and third rung.
Each ladder section must be attached with two wall brackets or four single wall
brackets. The wall brackets must not be more than 2.0 metres apart.
The topmost back hoop is attached to the stile extension or the guardrail of the
bridging.
Wall brackets can be pre-assembled on the supporting structure, following the
planned route of the ladder system. It is essential to ensure flush alignment.
The platform mounting plates can be pre-assembled for each platform. They must
be assembled flush (both horizontally and vertically).
Following pre-assembly on the floor, ladder systems (even if they comprise several
ladder segments) can be lifted using lifting tackle of suitable load-bearing capacity.
To prevent damage to the ladder connectors and the overall structure during lifting,
stabilise the ladder system, for example using tensioning straps spanning at least 2
to 3 rungs in the area of the ladder connections. If necessary, reinforce, for example
with wood.
Where necessary, shorten the lower section of the ladder and the ladder safety cage
to suit on-site conditions. Restore anti-corrosion protection.
4.3 Special notes The assembly instructions are in the form of diagrams.
The following must also be observed:
> Safety instructions in Chapter 4.1 Safety instructions.
> The notes below on the individual assembly steps.
Double-sided wall brackets (U-shaped bar), single-sided wall brackets
> Check that the surface of the substructure is flat and perpendicular; use adjustable
wall brackets if necessary.
> Mount each ladder segment with at least two double-sided U-shaped bars or four
single-sided wall brackets.

Kit statics are available for wall brackets ..257, ..258, ..259, ..260.
For wall brackets ..261, ..262, separate static calculations must be requested for
each construction project.
For version with security door:
> Do not attach wall brackets in the area of the hinge attachments.
For version with emergency exit ladder:
> Countersink drilled hole for attachment of the fixed ladder.
> Use countersunk head screws.
> Restore anti-corrosion protection in the area of the countersink.
Ground plate
Two ground plates can be used instead of the bottom wall bracket.
Landing rail (with floor bracket)
> Use only in combination with stile extension (43243/44243).
Landing rail, angled
> Mandatory within the area of application of DIN 14094-1.
Landing with crossover
The crossovers are designed for a maximum moving working load of 150 kg. They are
not designed as collection or storage points for increased working loads or stationary
loads.
The exit ladder must be attached to the building using wall brackets or ground plates.
Installation with ground plates is described in the illustrations section.
Where lateral securing (guardrail) is required (e. g. in accordance with EN ISO 14122
Part 4), this must be installed on-site.
Exit step
Within the area of application of EN ISO 14122 Part 4 and DIN 14094-1, the clearance
between step and machine must not exceed 75 mm.
> Where necessary, adjust the clearance on-site.
Back guard
A back guard segment consists of two hoops and five straps.
Two back guard segments consist of three hoops and ten straps.
Safety barrier
The safety barriers can be installed with the following products: stile extension,
straight (43243/44243), stile extension, angled (43049/44049), landing with crossover
(41181/42181/43181/44181)

6. Inspection and servicing
6.1 Inspection Have the fixed ladders inspected for operational safety by a technical expert at
intervals appropriate for the operating conditions. Inspection must be carried out at
least once a year. The technical expert is authorised to carry out inspection by the
operator and must have taken part in the seminars prescribed by law in the country
concerned.
Document performance of the inspection, the findings of the inspection and any
measures implemented as a result of the inspection. ZARGES recommends that you
keep an inspection log comprising fixed ladder check sheets, in which all data
concerning the fixed ladder system are entered. Fixed ladder check sheets are
available on the ZARGES home page.
After successful inspection of the product, the ZARGES inspection plate
(Order No. 878384) must be attached to the product. The month and year in which
the next inspection is due must be clearly legible.
6.2 Care Movable components such as the hinges of the rest platform, safety barriers,
the triggering device for the emergency exit ladder and the hinges of the security
door must be checked for ease of movement at least once per year.
Remove soiling on the fixed ladder system, in particular oil, immediately.
If the fixed ladder system is soiled, clean it with gentle cleaning agents. Do not use
acids or alkaline substances!
Apply suitable anti-corrosion protection to seal any damage to surfaces.
Remove any parts of plants that protrude into the fixed ladder system.
6.3 Repairs Effecting repairs of any kind to the equipment is prohibited. Any damaged parts must
be replaced.
6.4 Spare parts Use only original spare parts manufactured by ZARGES.
