Verifythe electrical integrity ofthe heater and
sensor. Measure the resistanceof the heater
and sensor while at room temperature. It
shouldbe7.512 W.Iftheresistanceexceeds
theselimits,replacethetip.

OFFandthepowercordUNPLUGGED.
Checkforabrokenheater
Checkthegroundingline
Checkingtheconnectioncordforbreakage.
DonotloosetheOringlocatedinsidethenipple.When reassembling,
matchtheconvexpartofthehandleassemblywiththeconcavepartsofthe
Oringspacerandsocket.
1.Unplugthesolderingironcordfromthestation.
2. Measure the resistance value between Pin 3 and the
solderingirontip.
3.Ifthevalueexceeds2 W (atroomtemperature),perform
tipmaintenance.Ifthevaluestilldoesnotdecrease,
checktheconnectioncordforbreakage.

A. TipMaintenance
1.TipTemperature
Hightemperature shortens tip life and may cause thermalshockto components.
Alwaysusethelowestpossibletemperaturewhensoldering.Theexcellentthermal
recovery characteristics of the 2901 station ensures effective soldering at low
temperature.
2.Cleaning
Always clean the soldering tip before use to remove any residual solder or flux
adheringtoit. Use acleanandmoistcleaningsponge. Contaminantsonthetip
havemanydetrimentaleffectsincludingreducedheatconductivity whichcontribute
topoorsolderingperformance.
3.Afteruse
Alwayscleanthe tip and coat it withfreshsolderafteruse. Thisguards against
oxidation.
4.Whentheunitisnotbeingused
Neverallowtheunittostayidleathightemperatureforextendedperiods.Thiswill
allowthe tiptobecomeoxidized. Turnthepower switchOFFif itistobeoutof
serviceforseveralhours.Itisadvisabletopullthepowerplugaswell.
5.Inspectingandcleaningthetip
Thisprocedure,iffolloweddailywillmateriallyaddtotiplife.
1.Setthe temperatureto250
o
C.
2.Whenthetemperaturestabilizes,cleanthetipandcheckits condition.Ifthetip
isbadlywornordeformed,replaceit.
3.Ifthesolderplatedpartofthetipiscoveredwithblackoxide,applyfreshsolder
containingfluxandcleanthetipagain.Repeatuntilalltheoxideisremoved
thencoatthetipwithfreshsolder.
Neverfilethetiptoremoveoxide.
4.TurnthepowerOFFandremovethetipusingtheheatresistantpad.Setthe
tipasidetocool.
5.Remainingoxidessuchastheyellowdiscolorationonthetipshaftcanbe
removedwithisopropylalcohol.

A. Controls
Thefrontpanelofthesolderingstationhasacontrolknobtosetthetemperature.
B. LightIndicators
There are two indicators on the left side of the panel. The top oneis the power
indicatorandthebottomoneistheheaterlamp.
Thepowerindicatorwilllightwhencurrentisbeingsuppliedtothestation.
The heater lamp blinks on and off when the tip temperature is reaching the set
temperature.Whenthesettemperaturehasbeenreachedthelightwillbeoff.
B. Buzzer
Anaudiblebuzzerisprovidedtoalerttheoperatorwhen:
Thestationhasreachedthesettemperature.
A failure has occurred in the sensor or heater (including the sensor
circuit). The buzzer will sound continuously.

be careful on handling the soldering iron because the temperature rises

OPERATION
A. Changing thetemperatureset ting
1.TurnthepowerON.
2.Adjustthecontrolknobtosetthedesiredtemperaturefrom200 480

C.
Tiptemperature risesquicklytodesiredsetting.  Abeepsoundwillbeheard
whendesiredtemperaturehasbeenreached.Temperaturedropisdependent
onthesurroundingenvironmentandtakestimetocooldown.
B. Replacingthetip
1.AlwaysturnthepowerOFFwhenremovingorinsertingatip.
2.Whenthetipishot,holditwiththeheatresistantpadandpullitout.
3. Insertthe newtipfullyintothehandle. Ifthetipisnotfullyinserted, beeping
soundwillbeheardwhenpoweristurnedon.
C.Calibratingtheirontemperature
Thismethodrequiresmeasuringthetiptemperaturewithatipthermometer andis
recommendedforthemostaccurateprocesscontrol.
1.Measurethetiptemperaturethroughanexternalthermometer.
NOTE:Allowthetiptemperaturetobecomestable.
2.Setthe temperaturecontrolknobto400

3.Whenthetemperaturestabilizes,insertastraightedge()screwdriverorsmall
plus(+)screwdrivertothesmallholeabovethecontrolbuttons.
4. Turnthescrewcounterclockwise toincrease thetemperatureandclockwise to
reducethetemperature.Slowlyadjustuntilthetemperatureoffsets.
