Using your Coffee Maker
Normal/Manual Function
1. Place the coffeemaker on a hard, flat surface. With the coffeemaker turned off, plug in.
2. Fill the carafe with fresh, cold water (preferably bottled or filtered water). Open the Top cover and pour
the water into the water tank. The number of cups is shown by the water level indicator. Do not exceed
the maximum fill level. Also it is not recommended to make less than 4 cups.
5
3. Place the carafe with the lid closed in the coffee maker making sure it is well placed into the coffee
maker in order to activate the pause and serve mechanism.
CAUTION: To avoid overflow, the carafe must fit securely into the coffee maker with the lid on. If
it is not properly positioned on the warming plate, hot water or coffee could overflow creating
the risk of burns and injuries.
4. With the Top Lid in the full opened position, insert the filter into the filter basket holder, folding the
seamed edges to ensure a perfect fit into the basket.
5. Add the coffee using the measuring scoop provided. Brew coffee with the coffee water ratio you
normally use when you prepare ground coffee regularly. If you prefer strong coffee, we recommend the
following European method, which produces a rich, full-bodied flavor. Use 1 level scoop for each cup (6
fluid ounces) or 10 level scoops for a full pot of coffee. Experiment with the amount of coffee used in
order to adjust the flavor to your taste.
6. Close the Top Lid and make sure it is securely closed.
7. With the Top Lid firmly closed and the carafe securely in place, press the ON button. The red color LED
light will light up and flash to indicate that the brewing cycle has started. Once the process has ended,
the red LED light will be on constantly indication that the “keep warm” function has begun. The keep
warm function works for 40 minutes before the unit fully shuts down.
8. If you wish to interrupt the brewing process in between, simply press the OFF button at any given time.
9. When the brewing process ends and the water level indicator is empty, there will still be hot liquid in the
filter basket. Wait a few minutes for the rest of the liquid to drip through into the carafe.
10. After the coffee grounds have cooled, open the Top Lid and carefully remove the filter by grasping the
handle and lifting straight up from the Funnel compartment. Discard used coffee filter and grounds.
CAUTION: Coffeemaker becomes very hot during the brewing cycle. Please handle with extreme
care.
11. The “keep warm” plate will operate as long as the switch is on.
12. Always switch the coffee maker to OFF when the carafe is empty or when you no longer want to keep
the coffee hot. The coffee maker will shut off automatically after 40 minutes.
CAUTION: Never open the
Top
Lid
during the brewing cycle; even if no water is drainin
g from
the Funnel. Extremely hot water/coffee can spill out from the basket and cause injury. If
water/coffee is not draining from the filter basket, IMMEDIATELY unplug the unit and wait 10
minutes before opening and checking the filter.
6
13. If two (2) or more pots of coffee are to be made it is recommended that the coffee maker is allowed to
cool for 10 minutes between each brewed pot. The filter should also be rinsed out after each brewing
cycle.
Auto-Brewing Function
1. Before commencing the brewing process, press the HOUR and then the MIN buttons to set the current
time. Press and hold the buttons to scroll through numbers quickly. When the number displayed
approaches the desired setting, release the button to advance one digit at a time and fix the correct
time.
2. To set the desired ‘auto brew’ start time, first press the PROGRAM button. Next set the time you want
the coffee to begin brewing by using the HOUR and MIN buttons following the same directions for
setting the clock.
3. After you have successfully set the program, the machine will be set into auto-brew mode. A green LED
light will flash and the word “AUTO" will show up on the LCD screen.
4. Your coffee maker will automatically begin brewing at the pre-set time. When the brewing cycle begins,
the red light will flash to indicate the coffee maker is in operation.
5. Press the PROGRAM button for about 3 seconds to cancel the auto-brewing mode.
Intense Coffee Function
This function is to lengthen the brewing time to make sure coffee has been completely extracted.
A: Press the “STRONG” button on the unit for it to start working immediately.
B: When making coffee using the normal/manual function, you may press the “STRONG” button at any
time to shift to this function instantly.
Pause & Serve Function
This function allows you to interrupt the brewing cycle at any time and pour a cup of coffee before the
entire carafe is finished brewing and before the whole process has completed.
Make sure the carafe is positioned firmly against the back of the coffee maker when placed back in order
to resume the brewing process.
NOTE: While the pause and serve is a convenient way to pour a cup of coffee mid-cycle, we recommend
you wait until the completion of the brewing cycle as the strength of coffee poured mid-cycle may vary from
the finished brew, and this may affect the finished brew’s strength and flavor.
CAUTION: You may take out the carafe, pour and serve at any time. The appliance will stop
dripping automatically. However, you should not exceed 30 seconds, as this will resume
automatically.
Hints for Great-Tasting Coffee
1. Always use fresh and cold water.
7
2. For stronger or milder coffee, increase or decrease the amount of coffee grounds to suit your taste.
3. Finer coffee grinds, such as Drip and Automatic Drip Coffeemaker (ADC) coffee grounds, promote a
full extraction of flavor and a rich, full-bodied coffee.
4. Store unused coffee grounds in a cool, dry place. After opening a package of coffee grounds, tightly
reseal it and store it in the refrigerator to maintain freshness.
5. For optimum coffee taste, buy whole coffee beans and finely grind them just before brewing.
6. Do not reuse coffee grounds; this greatly reduces the coffee's flavor.
7. Reheating coffee is not recommended as coffee is at its peak flavor immediately after brewing.
8. A clean Coffeemaker is essential for making great-tasting coffee. Clean regularly as specified in the
"Care and Maintenance" section.
9. Prevent an oily build-up: A small amount of oil on the surface of brewed coffee is due to the release of
oil from roasted coffee beans. Heavily-roasted coffee beans release more oil than others. Regularly
cleaning your Coffeemaker will prevent an oily buildup.
Care and Maintenance
WARNING:
Always unplug the Power Cord from the electrical outlet and allow the product to cool
completely before cleaning or storing.
Cleaning:
The Filter Basket may be placed on the upper rack of a dishwasher for cleaning or hand washed in
warm, soapy water. The Reusable Mesh Filter must be washed by hand.
NOTE: When washed in a dishwasher, the parts may appear to fade. Restore this by carefully
polishing them with a soft, dry cloth.
Wipe the exterior surface of the Coffeemaker with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use metal scouring
pads or abrasive cleaners.
Removing Mineral Deposits:
To keep your Coffeemaker operating efficiently, remove mineral deposits left by water. At least
once a month or after 60 uses of the coffee machine a green LED will flash on the screen indicating
that the coffee machine needs to be cleaned. Use a water and vinegar household cleaning solution
as described below to prevent the build-up of mineral deposits (using water and vinegar solution is
an optional method, you may use only water). If the water in your area is especially high in
minerals, do this more often.
1. Fill the jug with one part of white vinegar and three parts of cold water.
2. Pour the water and vinegar mixture into the Water Reservoir.
8
3. Place the jug (Lid off) onto the Base.
4. Press the CLEAN Button; the red Indicator Light will begin to flash. NOTE: During cleaning, more
steam occurs than when brewing coffee.
5. When the water-vinegar solution stops dripping into the jug, please note that the cleaning process has
not yet finished, please patiently wait as this process recommences after a few minutes.
6. Discard the cleaning solution from the jug once the process has completed or the water reservoir is
empty.
7. Allow the Coffeemaker to cool for three minutes, then remove, rinse, and replace the Filter Basket. You
may opt to repeat the cycle of cleaning once again if you feel this is necessary.
8. Rinse the Coffeemaker by brewing a Glass of cold water.
9. Allow the Coffeemaker to completely cool and clean it by washing the jug, the Filter Basket, and the
Reusable Mesh Filter in soapy water; rinse and let dry.
