Convert Tablet for Benchtop Use

Introduction

This accessory kit (Part # 30321288, Tabletop Terminal Kit) converts the tablet to

a free-standing unit for exibility and use on the benchtop, while not attached to the

BenchSmart 96 articulating arm.

To begin, switch off power to both the BenchSmart 96 and the tablet. Prepare a clean

workspace with a soft pad such as a clean lab towel.

Installation

Electrical Safety

1. With the instrument powered off, carefully remove the tablet from the articulated arm. Press the

locking tab on the arm mount toward the tablet and slide the tablet up and off the connector.

2. Place the tablet carefully on the prepared workspace with the screen facing downward.

3. With a soft cloth, clean the at parts of the tablet where the feet will attach.

4. Each foot has an adhesive tape strip. Remove the protective backing from the adhesive strip on

one foot (see below – A) and carefully position the foot on the tablet with the thick part of the

wedge at the back of the tablet (see below – B). Repeat for the other foot (see below – C). When

the feet are correctly in position, press them rmly in place for 15-20 seconds.

Note: The locking tab is located behind the tablet on the arm

block (indicated by the red arrow in the picture).

This product is packaged with a 5VDC, 2000 mA LPS certied power supply. If replacement is

needed, contact Rainin or METTLER TOLEDO (www.mt.com/rainin – “Contact us” button).

5. Turn the tablet over onto its feet (see below – A). Note that the tablet angle can be increased by

extending the tab on each leg (see below – B).

1. Two knurled screws at the top of the back panel hold the top cover in place. Loosen and remove

these screws.

2. Remove the top cover to make the cable connections. The cable will feed though one of the

openings in the cutaway section in either back corner.

3. Connect the USB end of the cable to the USB port on the tablet as shown below.

4. Pull the rubber plug from the power port next to the USB port, then connect the power cord

connector to the power port on the tablet as shown below. The tablet is battery powered and

needs to be plugged in to charge.

a. Disconnect the original (blue) cable. The original cable

can be folded inside the compartment as depicted here.

b. Push the RJ45 connector on the new cable through

the opening. (Note: Pushing the connector through the

opening may force the protective rubber cover off the

connector. Simply slide the rubber cover back on the

connector when it is through the opening.)

c. Connect the RJ45 connector to the port (see red arrow).

d. Replace the top cover and attach it with the two knurled

screws.

5. Locate the appropriate plug from the kit and slide it into the power adapter.

6. Connect the power adapter to grounded wall power.

7. Switch on the power to the BenchSmart 96 (see below - A) and the tablet

(see below B).

Note: If the tablet battery is completely drained, it may take a few minutes of

charging before the tablet can be started.

8. The tablet is now ready to use on the benchtop.
