Dear customer,
Before placing your new refrigerator/freezer into operation please read
these operating instructions carefully. They contain important
information for safe use, for installation and for care of the appliance.
Please keep these operating instructions for future reference. Pass
them on to possible new owners of the appliance.
These operating instructions are for use with several technically
comparable models with varying accessories. Please observe the notes
which apply to your model.
Notes which are important for your safety or for the proper functio-
ning of the appliance are stressed with a warning triangle and/ or with
signal words (
Warning!, Caution!, Attention!). Please observe the follo-
wing carefully.
This symbol guides you step by step in the operation of the appliance.
Supplementary information regarding operation and practical applicati-
ons of the appliance appear after this symbol.
Tips and notes concerning economical and environmentally sound
use of the appliance are marked with the cloverleaf.
The operating instructions contain instructions for the correction of
possible malfunctions by the user in the section "What to do if ...". If
these instructions should not be sufficient, our customer service
department is always available to you.

Safety
The safety aspects of our refrigerators/freezers comply with accepted
technical standards and the German Appliance Safety Law.
Nevertheless, we consider it our obligation to make you aware of the
following safety information:
Intended use
• The freezer is intended for use in the home. It is suitable for the
freezing and storing frozen food, as well as for making ice. If the
appliance is used for purposes other than those intended or used
incorrectly, no liability can be accepted by the manufacturer for any
damage that may be caused.
• Alterations or changes to the freezer are not permitted for reasons of
safety.
• If you use the freezer in a commercial application or for purposes
other than the freezing or frozen storage of foods, please observe all
valid legal regulations for your application.
Prior to initial start–up
• Check the freezer for transport damage. Under no circumstance
should a damaged appliance be plugged in! In the event of damage,
please contact the vendor.
Refrigerant
The refrigerant isobutane (R600a) is contained within the refrigerant
circuit of the appliance, a natural gas with a high level of environ-
mental compatibility, which is nevertheless flammable.
• During transportation and installation of the appliance, be certain
that none of the components of the refrigerant circuit become
damaged.
• If the refrigerant circuit should become damaged:
– avoid open flames and sources of ignition;
– thoroughly ventilate the room in which the appliance is situated.
Safety of children
• Packaging (e.g. wraps, polystyrene) can be dangerous for children.
There is a risk of suffocation! Keep packaging material away from
children!
• Please make old appliances unusable prior to disposal. Pull out the
mains plug, cut off the mains cable, break or remove spring or bolt
catches, if fitted. By doing this you ensure that children cannot lock

themselves in the freezer when playing (there is risk of suffocation!)
or get themselves into other dangerous situations.
• Often children cannot recognise the hazards present in household
appliances. It is therefore important that you ensure adequate
supervision and never let children play with the appliance!
Daily Operation
• Containers with flammable gases or liquids can leak at low
temperatures. There is a risk of an explosion! Do not store any contai
ners with flammable materials such as, for example, spray cans, fire
extinguisher refill cartridges etc in the refrigerator/freezer.
• Bottles and cans must not be placed in the freezer. They can burst
when the contents freeze, high carbonate content drinks can even
explode! Never store lemonade, juices, beer, wine, sparkling wine etc.
in the freezer. Exception: high alcohol content spirits can be stored in
the freezer.
• Do not put ice creams or ice cubes in the mouth immediately after
removal from the freezer. Very cold ice can freeze to the lips or ton
gue and cause injury.
• Do not touch frozen food with wet hands. Your hands could freeze to
the food.
• Do not operate any electrical appliances in the freezer (e.g. electric
ice cream makers, mixers etc.).
• Before cleaning the appliance, always switch off the appliance and
unplug it, or pull the house fuse or switch off the circuit breaker.
• Placing frozen goods on the top of the appliance can lead to the
accumulation of condensate in the cavity of the storage tray through
contact with the cold. Electronic components are housed within this
cavity. If condensate should drip onto these components, the
appliance could be damaged by a short circuit. For this reason do not
place frozen goods on top of the appliance.
• When unplugging always pull the plug from the mains socket, do not
pull on the cable.
In case of malfunction
• If the a malfunction occurs on the appliance, please look first in the
"What to do if ..." section of these instructions. If the information
given there does not help, please do not perform any further repairs
yourself.
• Refrigerators/freezers may only be repaired by qualified service
engineers. Improper repairs can give rise to significant hazards. If
your appliance needs repairing, please contact your specialist dealer
or our Customer Service.

Disposal
Appliance Packaging Information
All materials are environmentally sound! They can be dumped or
burned at an incinerating plant without danger!
About the materials: The plastics can be recycled and are identified as
follows:
>PE< for polyethylene, e.g. the outer covering and the bags in the
interior.
>PS< for polystyrene foam, e.g. the pads, which are all free of
chlorofluorocarbon.
The carton parts are made from recycled paper and should be disposed
of at a waste-paper recycling collection location.
Disposal of old Appliances
For environmental reasons, refrigeration appliances must be disposed of
properly. This applies to your old appliance, and - at the end of its ser-
vice life - for your new appliance as well.
Warning! Before disposing of old appliances make them inoperable.
Remove plug from mains, sever the power cable, remove or destroy any
snap or latch closures. This eliminates the danger that playing children
lock themselves into the appliance (danger of suffocation!) or place
themselves into other life-endangering situations.
Disposal:
• The appliance may not be disposed of with domestic waste or bulky
refuse.
• The refrigerant circuit, especially the heat exchanger at the back of
the appliance, may not be damaged.
• Information concerning collection schedules or locations can be
obtained from the local disposal authorities or town hall.
Remove transport safeguard
The appliance and the interior fittings are protected for transport.
Pull off the adhesive tape on the left and right side of the door.
You can remove any remnants of adhesive using white spirit.
Remove all adhesive tape and packing pieces from the interior of the
appliance.

Installation
Installation Location
The appliance should be set up in a well ventilated, dry room.
Energy use and efficient performance of the appliance is affected by
the ambient temperature.
The appliance should therefore
– not be exposed to direct sunlight;
– not be installed next to radiators, cookers or other sources of heat;
– only be installed at a location whose ambient temperature
corresponds to the climate classification, for which the appliance is
designed.
The climate classification can be found on the serial plate, which is
located at the left on the inside of the appliance.
The following table shows which ambient temperature is correct for
each climate classification: each climate classification:
If installation next to a source of heat is unavoidable, the following
minimum clearances must be maintained at the sides of the appliance:
– for electric cookers 3 cm;
– for oil and coal fired ranges 30 cm.
If these clearances cannot be maintained a heat insulating pad is
required between the cooker and the refrigeration appliance.
If the refrigeration appliance is installed next to another refrigerator or
freezer a clearance of 5 cm at the sides is required, in order to prevent
the formation of condensation on the outside of the appliance.

Your freezer needs air
Your freezer is designed for maintenance-free operation. What it
should never lack is good ventilation. Air is supplied under the ventila-
tion slot between the freezer and storage surface. Air is extracted
through the upper ventilation grille. Never obstruct these openings.
Plug socket
The plug socket necessary for connection of your appliance to the
electricity supply should be positioned so that it is possible to pull out
the appliance plug.
A concealed protective contact plug socket requires 10 A/16 A fusing.
If the socket is not accessible once the appliance is built in, the elec-
trical installation must include suitable means of isolating the applian-
ce from the mains (e.g. fuse, cut-out, current trip or similar with a
minimum contact separation of 3 mm).
Before initial start-up, refer to the appliance serial plate to ascertain if
supply voltage and current values correspond with those of the mains
at the installation location.
e.g. : AC 220 ... 240 V 50 Hz or
220 ... 240 V~50 Hz
(i.e. 220 to 240 volts alternating current, 50 Hertz)

Rehingeing the door
The side at which the door opens can be changed from the right side
(factory adjustment) to the left side, if the installation site requires.
Warning! When changing the side at which the door opens, the appli-
ance may not be connected to the mains. Remove plug from the
mains beforehand.
Tilt the appliance slightly towards the
rear and drop it securely.
Unscrew the door hinge screws (K) and
take the door bearing (1) downwards
out of its cavity.
Open the door a little way and take
it out downwards.
Unscrew the upper pin (A) and screw
it into place on the opposite side.
Fit the door into the upper pin (A) and
close it.
Insert the pin of the door bearing (1)
into the left hand cavity and screw
the bearing firmly into place with the
screws (K).
Unscrew the handle. Refit it on the
opposite side after having pierced the
plugs with a punch. Cover the holes
left open with the plugs contained in
the documentation pack.

The freezer drawers are stable and have an antitilt feature, and are also
retained at their endpositions. This assures safe and convenient inserti-
on and removal of frozen food. To remove them, withdraw themas far
as the catch, tilt them upwards, and pull them out forwards.

Buttons for Adjusting the Temperature
The temperature is adjusted using the „+“
(WARMER) and „-“ (COLDER) buttons.
These buttons are connected to the temperature display.
• The temperature display is switched over from the display of the
ACTUAL temperature (one light illuminated) to the display of the
DESIRED temperature (one light flashing) by pressing one of the two
buttons, „+“ or „-“.
• With each further press of one of the two buttons, the DESIRED
temperature is adjusted by one display field.
• If neither button is pressed, the temperature display automatically
switches back after a short period (approx. 5 sec.) to the display of
the ACTUAL temperature.
DESIRED temperature means:
The temperature that is required in the refrigerator or freezer com-
partment, this can be adjusted to the temperatures shown in the dis-
play. The DESIRED temperature is indicated by a flashing light.
ACTUAL temperature means:
The temperature display indicates the temperature that is currently
present in the refrigerator or freezer compartment. The ACTUAL tem-
perature is indicated by a continuously illuminated light.
Temperature Display
The temperature display can indicate several pieces of
information:
• During normal operation, the temperature currently present in the
refrigerator or freezer compartment (ACTUAL temperature) is dis-
played, the corresponding light illuminates.
• If the temperature is warmer than the display range of the tempera-
ture display, the red warning light flashes and all the lights in the
temperature display are extinguished.
• When the temperature is being adjusted, the temperature currently
set flashes (DESIRED temperature).

FROSTMATIC Button
The Frostmatic function “ ” accelerates the freezing of
fresh food and, at the same time, protects foodstuffs
already stored from undesirable warming.
The Frostmatic function is switched on by pressing the FROSTMATIC
button. The yellow light illuminates. The Frostmatic function can be
ended manually at any time by pressing the FROSTMATIC button again.
The yellow light goes out. If the Frostmatic function is not ended
manually, the appliance electronics switch off the Frostmatic function
after 48hours. The yellow light goes out.
Prior to Initial Start–Up
Please clean the appliance interior and all accessories prior to initial
start-up (see section: “Cleaning and Care”).
Remove the ice pack from the appliance.
Only put the ice pack to freeze in the top drawer after the optimal sto-
rage temperature of –18 °C has been reached.
Re-freeze thawed ice packs in the same way, e. g. after cleaning the
appliance.
Initial Start-Up
Insert plug into mains socket.
Press freezer compartment ON/OFF button“ ”. The green power indica-
tor lights up. A flashing red warning light indicates that the required
storage temperature has not yet been reached.
The temperature is fixed to -18°C.
Do not load freezer with goods until a temperature of -18°C has been
reached, or until the red warning display has gone out.

Temperature Adjustment
Press either the „+“ (WARMER) or „-“ (COLDER) button.
To adjust to a warmer temperature, press the „+“ button. To adjust to a
colder temperature, press the „-“ button. The changed setting is imme-
diately displayed on the temperature display.The temperature is adju-
sted by one display field with each press of a button.
Note: From a food science point of view, -18°C for the freezer com-
partment should be considered cold enough as a storage temperature.
When the buttons are not further pressed after an adjustment has
been made, after a short period (approx. 5 sec.) the temperature dis-
play switches over and again displays the ACTUAL temperature in the
refrigerator- or freezer compartment. The display changes from flas-
hing to continuous illumination.
Important! Please regularly check that the storage temperature is
being maintained by checking the red warning light and the tempera-
ture display.
Switching the Appliance Off
To switch off, press the ON/OFF button “ ” until the mains power
light extinguishes.
If the appliance is not going to be used for an extended period:
Switch off the appliance, to do this press the ON/OFF button until the
mains power light extinguishes.
Unplug the appliance, or pull or unscrew the fuse.
Defrost freezer compartment and clean thoroughly (see section:
"Cleaning and Care").
Leave door open after defrosting to avoid accumulation of odours.

Control and Information System
The control and information system comprises a temperature display,
an optical warning light and an acoustic warning device.
The system warns:
– if the temperature in the freezer compartment is too warm;
– if there is a malfunction in the appliance.
Temperature Warning
The red warning light flashes and a warning tone sounds as soon as
the temperature in the freezer compartment is warmer than -12°C.
Such a temperature increase is probably due to:
– frequent or extended opening of the door;
– storing large quantities of warm food;
– a fault in the appliance.
The warning tone can be switched off using the WARNING OFF but-
ton. The warning light and warning tone switch off automatically
when the ACTUAL temperature in the freezer compartment drops
again and returns to the range of the display.
Note:
The warning tone switches off:
- after the initial start up when the internal temperature of -18°C has
been reached;
- by pressing on the Frostmatic button.
Malfunctions
If the electronics in the appliance have detected a fault that prevents
the ACTUAL temperature being measured, all the lights in the tempe-
rature display will flash. The appliance will continue to function using
a backup program until customer service has repaired the appliance.

Freezing and storing frozen food
You can use your freezer for freezing fresh food yourself.
Important!
• The temperature in the freezer compartment must be –18 °C or
colder before freezing food.
• Please observe the freezing capacity given on the rating plate. The
freezing capacity is the maximum quantity of fresh food that can be
frozen within a period of 24 hours. If you wish to freeze food several
days in a row, please observe a maximum capacity of only 2/3 to 3/4
of that on the rating plate. The quality of the food is best preserved
when it is frozen right through to the core as quickly as possible.
• Allow warm food to cool down before freezing. The warmth will
cause increased ice formation and increase the power consumption.
• Please note the maximum storage times specified by the
manufacturer.
• Thawed foods which have not been processed further (cooked into
meals) may not under any circumstances be frozen a second time.
• Containers with flammable gases or liquids can leak at low
temperatures. There is a risk of an explosion! Do not store any
containers with flammable materials such as, for example, spray
cans, fire extinguisher refill cartridges etc in the refrigerator/freezer.
• Bottles and cans must not be placed in the freezer. They can burst
when the contents freeze, high carbonate content drinks can even
explode! Never store lemonade, juices, beer, wine, sparkling wine etc.
in the freezer. Exception: high alcohol content spirits can be stored
in the freezer.
For exploitation of maximum freezing capacity press the FROSTMATIC
button 24 hours prior to freezing, or 4 to 6 hours for smaller
quantities. Yellow display lights up.
The FROSTMATIC button need not be pressed for freezing of small
quantities of up to 3 kg.
All foods must be packed air tight prior to freezing, so that they do
not dry out or lose their flavour, and so that no flavour contamination
of other frozen goods occurs.
Caution! Do not touch frozen food with wet hands. Your hands could
freeze to the food.
The appliance’s electronics switch off the Frostmatic function automa-
tically after 48hours. The yellow light goes out. You can also end the
Frostmatic function manually by pressing the FROSTMATIC button
again.

Place the packed food in the drawers. Place food to be frozen in the
appliance´s two top drawers (1) and (2) equipped with its own refrige-
rating unit. Unfrozen food must not touch items already frozen, other-
wise the frozen food could begin to defrost.
Freezer drawers (3) and (4) should only be used for storage of frozen
food. The lowest drawer has a solid floor and can be used for catching
some of the melt-water when the freezer is beeing defrosted.
In order to enlarge the appliance´s volume the two centre drawers (2)
and (3) can be removed.
Place frozen foods in the drawers sorted by type, as far as possible.
Riders are supplied for placing on drawers. To mark the contents of the
individual drawers, press the rider over the corresponding symbol (see
"Frozen Food Symbols/Freezer Calendar" section). This will give you a
better overview of the contents, avoid extended door opening and
therefore save electricity.
Once the required storage temperate has been reached, press the fast
freeze button again. The yellow light goes out.
Tips:
• The following are suited for the packaging of frozen goods:
– freezer bags and polyethylene wraps;
– special cans for frozen goods;
– extra–thick aluminium foil.
• The following are suitable for sealing bags and wrap:
plastic clips, rubber bands or tape.
• Smooth the air out of the bag before sealing; air makes it easier for
the frozen food to dry out.
• Make flat packages, because these freeze more quickly.
• Do not fill cans for frozen goods to the brim with liquid or
paste–like
goods, because liquids expand during freezing.
Note for inspection authorities:
Batch plans for the determination of freezing performance or warm-
up time can be requested directly from the manufacturer.
Ice pack
There is an ice pack in one drawer of the freezer.
Refer to the section “Prior to Initial Start–Up” concerning freezing of
the ice pack.
In the event of a power failure or malfunction, the ice pack will lengt-
hen the amount of time it takes for the frozen food to become too

warm by several hours.
The ice pack can only fulfil this task optimally if it is placed in the
uppermost drawer, at the front, above the frozen food.
You can use the ice pack for cooling cold bags.
Preparation of Ice Cubes
Fill the ice cube tray 3/4 full with cold water, place it in the freezer
compartment and leave to freeze.
To loosen the frozen cubes, either bend the ice cube tray or hold it
under running water for a few seconds.
Important! Never try to free an ice tray that is frozen to the freezer
compartment using pointed or sharp edged objects. Use the ice scraper
supplied.
Storage Goods Symbols/Freezing Calendar
• The symbols on the drawers show
different types of frozen goods.
• The numbers indicate storage times
in months for the appropriate types
of frozen goods. Whether the upper or lower value of the
indicated storage time is valid depends on the quality of the foods
and pre-treating before freezing. The lower value applies to foods
with high fat content.
• By attaching the included index-tabs
to the drawers, they can be marked
according to which type of foods the
individual compartments contain.

Defrosting and cleaning
During use and when the door is opened, moisture is deposited as
frost inside the appliance, particularly on the evaporator. This frost
must be removed from time to time using the soft plastic scraper sup-
plied.
Under no circumstances use hard or pointed objects for this purpose.
The freezer should always be defrosted when the layer of frost has
reached a thickness of approx. 4 millimetres; however at least once a
year. A good time for defrosting is when the appliance is empty or
contains only little food.
Each temperature rise reduces the keeping qualities of your frozen
food. About 12 hours prior to defrosting push the FROSTMATIC but-
ton, in order to build up sufficient chill reserve for the interruption in
operation.
Warning!
• Do not use electrical heating appliances or any other mechanical or
artificial devices to speed up the defrosting process.
• Do not use defrosting sprays, they can be hazardous to your health
and/or contain substances that damage plastics.
Caution! Do not touch frozen food with wet hands. Your hands could
freeze to the food.
Remove frozen food, wrap it in several layers of newspaper and store
it,
covered, in a cool place.
Switch off the appliance and unplug it, or pull the fuse or switch off
the circuit breaker.
Remove all drawers except the bottom one.
The bottom drawer serves as a practical con-
tainer to collect the water from the thawing
ice. Pull out the drawer and insert the plastic
scraper in the special location to act as an
extension channel to collect the defrost
water.
Tip: To speed up the defrosting process, place
a pan with hot water in the appliance and
close the door.
Remove pieces of ice that have fallen before they completely defrost.
After defrosting, thoroughly clean the freezer compartment and inte-
rior fittings.

Warning!
• The appliance may not be connected to the mains during cleaning.
Danger of electrical shock! Before cleaning switch the appliance off
and remove the plug from the mains, or switch off or turn out the
circuit breaker or fuse.
• Never clean the appliance with a steam cleaner. Moisture could accu
mulate in electrical components, danger of electrical shock! Hot
vapours can lead to the damage of plastic parts.
• The appliance must be dry before it is placed back into service.
Attention!
• Ethereal oils and organic solvents can attack plastic parts, e.g.
– lemon juice or the juice from orange peals;
– butyric acid;
– cleansers which contain acetic acid.
Do not allow such substances to come into contact with appliance
parts.
• Do not use any abrasive cleansers.
Clean the appliance and the interior accessories with a cloth and
lukewarm water. Commercially available dish washing detergents may
also be used.
After cleaning wipe with fresh water and rub dry.
After everything is dry, switch to fast freeze. After running the
appliance for two or three hours, it is ready again for storing frozen
food.
Magnetic door seal
After opening and closing the door of your freezer whilst it is in ope-
ration, you will not immediately be able to open the door again
because a vacuum will have developed inside, keeping the door closed
until the pressures inside and outside the door have equalised. After a
few minutes you can easily reopen the door.

If you should ever move house
If the freezer compartment is not fully loaded, pack the frozen food all
together on as few storage levels as possible: drawers (1) and (2).
24 hours before the removal lorry is due to leave switch over to fast-
freezing in order to build up a reserve of coldness in the frozen items.
Make sure the freezer door cannot come open during transport.
Ensure that the freezer is the last item loaded onto the removal lorry,
so that it is the first to be taken off and can be plugged in again at
once.
Energy Saving Tips
• Do not install the appliance near cookers, radiators or other sources
of warmth. High ambient temperatures cause longer, more frequent
operation of the compressor.
• Ensure sufficient air circulation and exhaust at the appliance base
and at the back wall of the appliance. Never cover air vent openings.
• Do not place warm foods into the appliance. Allow warm foods to
cool first.
• Only leave door open as long as necessary.
• Do not set temperature any colder than necessary.
• Check the storage temperature in the freezer on the thermometer.
• Put frozen food in the fridge to defrost. The cold in the frozen food
will then be used to cool the fridge.
• Keep the heat emitting condenser, the metall grille on the rear wall
of your appliance, always clean.
