MOTOR

Your Black & Decker toolis powered by a Black & Decker-built motor, Be sure your power

supply agrees with nameplate markiug. 120 Volts AC only means your drill wi!l operate on

standard 60 Hz household power. Do not operate AC toots on DC. A rating of t20 volts

AC/DC means that yO_JrI_ol willuperete on standard 60 Hz AC o_ DC power.This information

is printed on the nameplate. Lower vollage will cause toss of power sod can result in over-

USE OF EXTENSION CORDS

Make sure the extension cord is in good conditlen before usin 9. Always use the proper size

extension cordsw;th the too!- that is, proper wire size for various lengths of cord sod heavy

ASSEMBLY/ADJUSTMENT SET-UP

,_WARNING," Always unplug drill from power supply before any of the following

operations.

SIDE HANDLE (1/2" DRILLS ONLY)

• If yoar drill is equipped with a side handle, it must be installed properly to control the drill

-Insert bolt intorecessed hole with melded hex shape, making sure thathex head is seated

fullyto prevent bolt from turning.

- Place citoJtar opening over drill chuCkand onto front of driltgear case,

* Place the dr_llon its side and holding the bolt head with your finger, thread handle onto bolt.

The handle now has afoil range of 360 degrees around the driL

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

,&WARNING: To reduce the risk of sedous personal injury, read, understand and fellow all

impodant safety warnings and instructions prior to usingtool.

SWITCH

To turn the drill ON squeeze the tr;ggerswitch. The farther the _g_e r is depressed, the higher

the speed of the dr_lLToturn the tool OFF mleaea the _gger switch. The drill can be locked

ON (maximum RPM on!y) for continuous use by squeezing the tdgger white pushing in on the

locking button (Fi 9.1). Hold the locking button in while you release the t_gger switch and then

release the locking button+The drillwill continue to run, To tam the drillOFF from a Iocked ON

edition, squeeze and release the trigger.

WARNING: The drillshould only be locked ON when itis held stationery in a dd)l press

stand or other means; NOT BY HAND! Never unplug the tool with the locking feature

engaged=To do so wiflcause the tootto start immediately the next time it isplugged in,

FORWARD/REVERSE (DR200, DR210, DR220, OR400, DR402, DR600)

TO select forward rotation push the switch controllever to the RIGi.iT (when viewed from the

chuck end) (Fig+l)+ Toselect reverse push the lever to the LEFT (when viewed from the chuCk

end). After all reversing operations, switch the toolto the forward nJeeing led e.

NOTE: WHEN THE SWITCH CONTROL LEVER 1S IN THE CENTER POSITION THE DRILL

WiLL NOT OPERATE. DO NOT FORCE TRIGGER. SELECT FORWARD OR REVERSE

BEFORE TURNING DRILL ON.

FORWARDIREVERSE (ORS00 ONLY}

TO select forward rotation push the switch controllever to the LEFT (when viewed from the

chuck end) (Fig.f), To select reverse push the lever to the RIGHT (when viewed from the

chuck end)+After all revereingoperations, switch the tool to theforwa_l running mode.

NOTE: WHEN THE SWITCH CONTROL LEVER IS IN THE CENTER POSITION THE DRILL

WILL NOT OPERATE, DO NOT FORCE TRIGGER. SELECT FORWARD OR REVERSE

BEFORE TURNING DRILL ON.

CHUCK & KEY OPERATION (DR400, DR500, DR600) ......

'Tu m chuck coilarto open chuCk jaws. Place bit )n chuck as far as itwill go, I=ghtoocauck COllar

by hand. Place chuck key (n each of the _ree holes, and _ghtan (n clockwise direct)on (Pig. 2).

Tighten chuckwith all three holesto prevent slippage.

KEYLESS CHUCK OPERATiON (DR-_D0,DR210, DR402)

DR2OO,DF'_I 0, DR402 - Toattach accesSories, grasp the rear half of the chuck with one hand

and use your other hand torotate the front hair in the counterclockwise direcfcno insert the bit

or other accessory fully late the chuck, and tighten securely by holding the rear half of the

chuck and rotating thefront pot'_oninthe clockwise directionas viewed from thechuck end.

DR220 - S|ngls Sleeve Chuck with Automatic Spindle Lock -This tool is equipped with a

feature that automatically lacks the spindle when the tool is not running. This feature isa

normal condition which allows for tightening or loosening of the chuck with one heed while

holdingthe drill with the other. Loosen the chuck by rotating _e sleeve counterclockwise (Fig,

3). Insert the bit or other accessory fully into the chuck, and tighten securely by rotating the

sleeve inthe ctookwtsedirectionas view_t from the chuck end,

QUICK CHANGE ACCESSORY

DR2,?.OOnly - A quick change accesSOry is included with the DP.220 which allows for

easy chang(rig of hex shank accessories without loosening or tightsnlng the chuck

jews. TO use the quick change accessory, insed the shaft into the DR220 chuck and lighten

securely. Insert a hex shank accessory by pulling back on the collar as shown in Figure 4.

HAMMER ACTION (DR400, DR402, DR600)

Your dr}ll has hammer ection whichis engaged by sliding the hammer/dri(| selector lever, To

select hammering, turn offthe d,_lIand re,eta the lever shown in Figure 5 so that the arrow on

the lever points to to the hammer symbol on the drill housing. To sete_td dl(ing, turn off the drill

sod rotate the lever so that the strew onthe lever points to the drill symbol.

/_ WARNING: Do nat attampt to tighten drill blts (or any other _ccessory) by gripping the

front part of the chuck end taming the tool on. Damage to the chuck and persona( injury may

occur whenchanging acsesseries.

DRILUNG

• Always unplug the drill when attaching or removing accessories. When attaching

eceaseodes in the drill chuck, it isimportant to securety tighten the chuck using all three

heros to prevent slippage. Whee usinga keyleas chock, hand lighten firmly.

• Use aheq:)drillbi_ only.

- Secure and maintain workarea, as insL_uctedin the safety instructions.

• Run the d_)lvery slowly, usinglight pressure, until the hole isstarted enough to keep the ddIl

bit (rom slippingout of it.

• Apply pressure in a straight line with the biL Use enough pressure to keep the bit biting but

nat so much as to stall the motoror deflect the bit.

, Hold the drill firmly to control its twisting action,.

• DO NOT CLICK THE TRIGGER oF A STALLED DRILL OFF AND ON IN AN ATTEMPT TO

START IT, DAMAGE TO THE DRILL CAN RESULT.

• Minimize etatiin9 en breakthrough by reducing pressure and slowly ddlling through the last

par{ of the hole.

* Keep the motor running while pulling the bif out of a drilled hole. This will help reduce

jamm;ng.

* Use a cutting lubricant when ddning metals, The exceptions are cast iron and bress which

should be dri_taddry. The lubricants that work best are su)phufized cutting ell er lard oil

Bacon grease wiU alsoserve.

• When using twist drill bits to drill holes inwood, it will be necessary to pulI the bits out

frequently to clear chipsfrom the futas_

• Plug in ddll. Make sure switch turns drill on and off.

KEYLESS CHUCK REMOVAL (DR200_ DR210, DR220, DR402)

UNPLUG DRILL. "lighten the chuckemund the shorterend of a hex key (notsupplied) of IN"

d6.4mm) or greater size. Using a soft hammer, strike key sharply in a covntarelockw_se

irec_en (when v_ewed from the f_ontof the tooI). This will loosen the chuck so that itcan be

unscrewed by hand.

KEYED CHUCK REMOVAL (DR400)

UNPLUG DRILL. NOTE: Before attempting to remove chuck, shift the drill into the drilling

mode (not hammer, if so equipped },

Piece chuck key in any one of the three holes in the chuck, Strike the key sharply in a

counterclockwise direction (when viewed from the front of the tool). This will loosen the chuck

eo that it can be removed toyhand.

KEYED CHUCK REMOVAL (DR50g, DR600)

UNPLUG DRILL.

NOTE: Before attempting to remove chuck, shift the dull intothe drilling mode (not hammer, (f

SOequipped).

Ptace chuck key in any one of thethres holes in the chuck. Using a soft hemmer, strike the key

in a clockwise direction. This w_llloosen the torx screw inside the chuok+Open chuck jaws fully,

insert a torx Screwddver into front of chuck betweee jaws to engage screw head. Remove

screw by turning deskwlsa (talt-hand-th read). PIace key in chuck. Using a soft hammer, s_ke

key sharply in a eauntereleckwise direction. This will loosen the chuck so that it con be

unscrewed by hand-

DRILLING 1NWOOD

Holes in wood can be made with the same twist drill bits used for metal or withspade bits_

These bits should be sheq:) and shouldbe puffedout frequently when drilling to clear chips

from the f_utas.

DRILLING INMETAL

Use a cutting _ubricant when dn3ling metalS. The exceptions are cast iron and brass which

should be dril(ed dry+The cutting lubdceets that wonkbest ere sulfJrized cotting oil or lard oil;

bacon grease wilt also ser_e the purpose.

DRILUNG iN MASONRY (Shift d_lt into hammer mode as shown in Fig. 5)

Use carbide tipped masonry bits. Refe_ to Drilling section. Keep even force on the dd(Ibut

not so much that you crack the brittle matadaL A smooth, even flow of dust indicates the

proper drillingrate.

MAINTENANCE

Use eely mild soap end damp cloth to clean the tool, Never let aey liquid get inside the tool;

never immerse any partof the toolinto a _iquid.
