1. SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

Read all instructions and keep these safety instructions. Anytype
ofmisuse of the appliance may result in a potential injury.

Connect theappliance to amains powersocket with an earth con-
nectiononly. Mains voltage must be the same as the details on
the ratingplate. The use of incorrect connection will negate the
guaranteeand maybe hazardous.

This appliance is intended to be used in household only. It is not
intendedto be used in following applications, and the guarantee
will not applyfor:
staff kitchen areas in shops, offices andotherworking envir-
onments;
farm houses;
by clients in hotels, motels and other residential type envir-
onments;
bed and breakfast type environments;

Your appliance is intended for domestic use inside thehome only
atan altitude below 3400 m.

We recommend using the NESCAFÉ®DolceGusto® capsules
designed and tested for the NESCAFÉ®DolceGusto® machine.
Theywere designed to interacttogether - the interaction provides
the in-cup quality that NESCAFÉ®DolceGusto® is known for.
Eachcapsule is designed to prepare a perfect cup, and cannot be
reused.

Do notremove hot capsules by hand. Always use capsule holder
handleto dispose of used capsules.

Alwaysuse the appliance on a flat, stable, heat resistant surface
awayfrom sources of heat or watersplashes.

To protect against fire, electricshock and injury to persons do not
immersethe power cord, plugs orthe appliance in water or other
liquid. Avoid spillage on the plug. Never touch the powercord with
wethands. Do notoverfill thewater tank.

In case of an emergency remove theplug from the mains power
socketimmediately.

Close supervision is necessary when the appliance is used near
children. Keep the appliance /power cord / capsule holder outof
reachof children. Children should be supervised to ensure that
theydo not play with the appliance. Never leave the appliance
withoutsurveillance while making a beverage.

Do notuse the appliance without thedrip tray and drip grid,
exceptwhen a very tall mugis used. Do not use the appliance for
hotwaterpreparation.

Forhealth reasons, alwaysfill the water tank with fresh drinking
water.

After use of theappliance always remove thecapsule and clean
the capsule holder. Empty and clean the drip tray and capsule bin
daily. Users allergic to dairy products: Rinse theappliance accord-
ing to thecleaning procedure.

Theheating element surface is subjectto residual heat afteruse
and plastic housingsmay feel warm to touch several minutes
uponuse.

Unplugfrom the mainspower socket when notin use.

Unplugfrom the mainspower socket beforecleaning. Allow to
cool before putting on or taking off parts, beforecleaning the appli-
ance.Never clean wet orimmerse appliance in any fluid. Never
cleanthe appliance with running water. Neveruse detergents to
cleanthe appliance. Clean theappliance only using soft
sponges/brushes. The water tank should be cleaned with a clean
food-safe brush.

Neverturn the machine upside down.

Ifaway forprolonged periods, on holiday, etc. theappliance must
beemptied, cleaned and unplugged. Rinse before reuse. Operate
the rinse cyclebefore re-using your appliance.

Do notturn off the appliance duringthe descaling process. Rinse
the water tank and clean the appliance to avoid any residual
descalingagent.
22.
Anyoperation, cleaningand care otherthan normal use must be
undertakenby after-sales service centres designated by
NESCAFÉ®DolceGusto® hotline. Do notdismantle appliance
and do notput anything into openings.
23.
In case of intensive use withoutallowingsufficient cooling time,
the appliance will stop functioningtemporarily with the red indic-
atorlightblinking. This is to protectyour appliance from over-
heating. Switchthe appliance off for20 minutes to letit cool
down.
24.
Do notoperate anyappliance with a damaged cord or plug. Ifthe
powercord is damaged, itmust be replaced by the manufacturer,
its service agentor similarly qualified persons in order to avoid a
hazard. Do not operate any appliance that malfunctions or has
beendamaged in any manner. Unplug cord immediately. Return
the damaged appliance to the nearest authorised service facility
designatedby NESCAFÉ®DolceGusto® hotline.
25.
Theuse of accessory attachments notrecommended by the appli-
ancemanufacturer may result in fire, electric shock or injury to per-
sons.

Do notlet the cord hang over theedge ofa tableor counter, or touch
hotsurfacesor sharp edges. Do notallow the cord to dangle(risk of
tripping up). Nevertouch the cord with wet hands.
27.
Do notplace on or near a hot gasor electric burner, or in a heated
oven.

To disconnect, turn the machine off, then remove the plug from the
mainspower socket. Do not unplug by pulling the cord.
29.
Alwaysinsert the capsule holder in themachine to prepare a bever-
age. Donot pull outthe capsule holder before the indicator stops
blinking. The appliance will notwork if the capsule holder is not
inserted.
30.
Machines equipped with a locking handle: Scalding mayoccur if
the locking handle is opened duringthe brewing cycles. Do notpull
upthe locking handle before the lights on the machine stop flash-
ing.
31.
Do notput fingers under the outlet during beveragepreparation.
32.
Do nottouch theinjector ofthe machine head.
33.
Nevercarry the appliance by the machine head.

Thecapsule holder is equipped with a permanent magnet. Avoid
placingthe capsule holder near appliancesand objects that can be
damagedby magnetism, e.g. credit cards, USB drives and other
datadevices, video tapes, television and computermonitors with
picturetubes, mechanical clocks, hearing aids and loud speakers.

Patients with pacemakers or defibrillators: Do not hold the capsule
holderdirectlyover the pacemaker or defibrillator.
36.
Ifthe mains powersocket does not match theplug on theappli-
ance,have the plug replaced with asuitable type by aftersales ser-
vicecentres designated by NESCAFÉ® Dolce Gusto® hotline.
37.
Packaging is made of recyclablematerials. Contact your local coun-
cil /authority for furtherinformation on recycling programs. Your
appliancecontains valuablematerials which can be recovered or
recycled.

Do notuse vinegarfor descaling! Avoidcontactof descalingliquid with any
partof the machine.
Do notpush ON / OFF icon during descaling
cycle.

Ifthe beverage comes out slower thanusual (evenin
droplets), orif it is cooler than usual or ifthe powerbutton is
steadyorange (descaling signal), the machine has to be
descaled.

Switchoff machine. Ifany, remove waterfrom watertank.

Mix 0.5 literfresh drinkingwater with descalerin a meas-
uring cup. Pourdescaling solution into water tank and insert
watertank into machine.

Press and hold ON/ OFF iconfor atleast 5 seconds. ON/

enters descaling mode.

approximately2 minutes until the water tank is empty. Wait
until extractionstops.

Fora better effect ofthe descaler, the machine enters a wait-
ing timeof 2 minutes. The ON / OFF icon blinks alternately
green/ orange during the waitingtime.

Empty andclean container. Rinse and cleanwatertank. Use
a cleanfood-safe brush and washing-up liquid as needed.
Afterwards refill with freshdrinking water and insert itinto
machine.

Fill water tank with freshdrinking water. Touch cold water

9. 1 NO LIQUID COMES OUT NO WATER?
No liquid comes out: Beverage preparation stops part way
duringdelivery or does not start at all. Bardisplay flashes
andON/ OFF iconblinks red and greenrapidly.

Check ifthe watertank contains enough freshdrinking
water. If not, refill withfresh drinking waterand touchhot/-
coldwater iconagain to continue preparation. If the water
tank is full proceedas follows.
No liquid comes out: The capsule may be blockedandunder
pressure.

Always keep the machine upright! To stop preparation, touch
hot/coldwater icon again.Do not unplug the machine!
Machine releases pressure.

Coffee mix is pressed out oftop ofcapsule holder. Wait until
pressingprocess is finished. This is the case if you hear no
noise coming fromthe machine.

Do notdrink the coffee!If capsule holder canbe pulled out:
Throw away the capsule. Ifcapsule holder cannotbe pulled
out, wait for20 minutes, try again. If capsule holder is still
blocked, unplug machine. Call the
NESCA®DolceGust hotline. Forhotline numbers see
lastpage.

Rinse the machine: Follow instructions in 5.“FIRST USE on
page 9. Cleanwith washing-up liquid and freshdrinking
waterboth sides of capsule holder. Rinse driptray with fresh
drinkingwater and cleanit with a cleanfood-safe brush.

Unplugpower plug! Remove watertank. Take out the
injectortool. Pull cleaningneedle out ofinjector tool. Keep
needleout ofreach ofchildren!

Removecapsule holder. Push injector tool overinjector.

Removeinjector only on coldmachine! Turn injector tool
anti-clockwise. Remove injector. Donot leaveinjectorunat-
tended! Keep injectorout of reach of children!

Insertcleaning needle into injector to unclogit. Ifnotpos-
sible,prepare a descalingsolution with one descaler and
0.5liter drinking water. Putinjector in descalingsolution.

Putinjector onto injector tool.
10
Insertinjector from below into opening ofmachine. Support
injectorwith hand. Rotate injector clockwise until it fits. Fol-
low instructions in 8.“Descaling at leastevery 3-4 months”
onpage 14.

Machine cannot be switched on. No opening / closingof the
machine.

Makesure that the opening/ closing is not blocked by cable
orsurrounding objects.

Check ifthe powerplug is correctly pluggedinto a mains
powersocket. If yes, check your electricity supply. If
machine still cannot be switched on, call the
NESCA®DolceGust hotline. Forhotline numbers see

Machine does not stay closed.

Ifused capsule icon blinks orange: Pull outcapsule holder.
Throw away the capsule. Insert empty capsule holder.

Ifmachine still does not stay closed: Check if drip tray is
insertedat lowest position. Close machine manually.
Beverage is splashing out ofcoffee outlet.

To stop preparation, touch active hotor cold watericon. Pull
out capsule holder. Check capsule. Throw away the capsule.
