Overview

iRecord Music is a Personal Media Recorder that records high quality audio data
directly onto USB based devices, including portable media players (PMP), cell
phones, USB flash drives and hard disks. The supported PMP include iPad®,
iPhone®, iPod® (touch, classic, nano), PSP® & Walkman®, and virtually every MP3
player. Simply connect iRecord Music to any analog audio source such as DVD/CD
player, LP, cassette player, cable box, TV, etc and attach and record the audio
contents to any supported PMP.
iRecord Music has 2GB of internal flash memory which can be used for data
transfer as well as for local recording. The internally stored recordings can later be
transferred directly to a PMP or to a PC/Mac or played back by iRecord Music itself.
iRecord Music also has a built-in microphone for voice recordings to the internal
memory.

iRecord Music Use Cases
iRecord Music is a multi-functional device with a number of use-cases including
the following:
1. Recorder:
Analog audio recording: Hook up to any analog audio source to record the
contents to an external USB device or to the internal storage of iRecord Music.
Legacy capture: Digitize your favorite music collection, including cassette tapes
and LPs, to enjoy listening to them on your iPod or any other MP3 player.
Streaming audio recorder: Record Internet radio broadcasts either from the
laptop or radio itself with the touch of a button.
Live recording: Record lectures, speeches, meetings, conversations, and
Podcasts, using the built-in microphone.
2. USB mass storage device: When connected to a computer through the client
USB port, iRecord Music appears as a standard USB flash drive for data transfer.
3. Player: Primarily a recorder, iRecord Music is also a basic MP3 player.
4. Charger: When iRecord Music is connected to a portable media player (PMP),
it also charges its battery, whether recording or not. iRecord Music hence works as
a battery charger, as well, when connected to a PMP through its USB host port.
43
iRecord Music must be powered by 5V DC power adapter to record to external USB devices.

Power ON/OFF
iRecord Music can be powered via the 5V DC power adapter or the battery cap. An
ON-OFF switch on the battery cap controls the power to the iRecord Music. When
attached to a computer iRecord Music draws power from the computer, like any
standard USB flash drive.
Typical operation time of iRecord Music per battery charge is 2+ hours. Any
recording should be stopped when the battery is low, indicated by red blinking of
the warning LED. The battery can be recharged using the provided 5V DC power
adapter. An LED on the battery cap indicates charging state of the battery, with
RED indicating battery being charged & GREEN indicating when it is fully charged.
4 To be able to record directly to external USB devices, such as iPhone, iPod etc., iRecord Music must be powered via the 5V DC power adapter. The
recommended usage of iRecord Music, when powered by battery cap, is for recording to internal flash memory, or for play back.
5 Not all models support this feature. User may have to stop recording manually near the two-hours point or the unit may shut-off automatically.

iRecord Music Player Mode
When only a headphone is connected to iRecord Music, it becomes a basic music
player. Playback is started by pressing Record button and this state is indicated by
status LED blinking GREEN. While playback is in progress, pressing the Record
button will skip the current song to jump to the next one. When all the songs get
played or headphone is removed, iRecord Music will stop playing further (unless
the Record button is pressed again).
During the playback, the slider switch can be used to adjust playback volume.
Where are My Recorded Contents?
The iRecord Music stores the files onto iPod in Music->Songs List. The file names
will be listed as iRecord_mm/dd/yy hh:mm where mm/dd/yy represents the
date and hh:mm represents the time of recording.
For the PSP, the recorded audio contents appear in the Music menu, from where
these can be played back. The audio files are stored in PSP -> Music folder on the
Memory Stick.
For the Sony Walkman, audio recordings are stored in the Music directory.
For USB mass storage devices and the internal storage of iRecord Music, all files
are saved in the iRecord folder. This folder is located at the root (top-level)
directory.

iRecord Music Configuration Utility
Some advanced features of iRecord Music can be accessed via iRecord Music
configuration utility, available for download at www.irecord.com. Both Windows
and Mac versions are available. The utility can be used to override the default
settings of iRecord Music. Some examples are briefly discussed below. For more
details on the iRecord Music configuration utility, please see its user guide.
Track Splitting
iRecord Music provides an automatic track splitting feature by sensing the
silence interval between two consecutive audio tracks. iRecord Music creates a
new file for each song. This feature can be disabled or tuned via iRecord Music
configuration utility.
iRecord Music Audio Formats and Bit-Rates
iRecord Music records in MP3 audio format by default at a bit-rate of 192 kbps. A
different bit-rate can be chosen via the configuration utility. Instead of MP3 or
AAC, loss-less formats such as FLAC and WAV encoding can also be selected
through the iRecord Music configuration utility.
IRecord Music Firmware Update
iRecord Music's firmware can be upgraded by connecting iRecord Music to a
PC/Mac and copying the firmware update file to iRecord Music's root directory.
When iRecord Music is powered on again and it detects a firmware upgrade file in
its internal memory, it will update itself automatically.
Note: The iRecord Music firmware gets updated as more devices are supported and to keep compatibility with updates of devices as well. The
firmware update is available for downloading from the website, iRecord.com.

Troubleshooting
Make sure that before pressing the record button the input source is
turned on and is providing an audio signal to iRecord Music.
Make sure that the audio cables are securely connected to both the
input source and iRecord Music.
If status LED does not illuminate within 15 seconds after power up, do
a power cycle again, i.e. turn off iRecord Music, wait 10 seconds
and turn on iRecord Music.
If your iPhone, iPod, PSP or USB storage device is not recognized by
iRecord Music after 30 seconds (status LED does not turn solid GREEN)
try the following steps:
1. Remove and re-insert iPhone, iPod, PSP or USB device.
2. Reset iPod. (Please see your iPod user manual)
3. Make sure PSP is in USB mode. Newer PSP models automatically
Go to USB mode when connected to iRecord Music.
