Tips for use
Avoid using slices that are too big or too thick as these can
easily become jammed in the appliance. If slices of bread become
jammed, first disconnect the plug from the outlet. Release jammed
slices of bread with a blunt wooden object (e.g. a wooden spatula
or spoon). Do NOT touch the heater elements.
Differences in bread types, moisture content and the thickness of
individual slices have an effect on the browning of the toast. There-
fore, the bread for toasting should be kept in sealed packaging
until required. Always start by trying out a lower browning level.
Use a lower browning level if you are toasting dry bread, since
dry bread browns faster than fresh bread.
Select a higher level of browning for dark bread than for light
bread (for example, wheat bread).
The numbers on the toasting dial are not time indications.
They serve only as a guide for the browning.
To prevent the toaster from overheating and to obtain an even
browning of bread, wait about 15 seconds between two toasting
processes.
You should only use the highest level on the toasting dial for
large slices of dark bread. With this browning level, light bread
will burn and become inedible. In addition, it may generate of
smoke. If this occurs, press the "CANCEL" button immediate-
ly and unplug the power cord.
STC 850 D3 US-EN 11
Setting up
Bakery products can catch fire! You should there-
fore NEVER place the appliance close to or under flammable objects,
especially not under curtains or suspended cupboards.
Unwind the cord completely from around the cable winder and
lead it through the cable clamp .
Place the appliance on a level and heat-resistant surface.
Insert the plug into an outlet.
Always unplug the toaster when not in use. This is the only way to
ensure that the appliance is current-free.
Before first use
Operate the toaster without bread 3 times at the maximum
browning level "6".
Afterwards, clean the toaster as described in the "Cleaning"
section.
The toasting lever only engages when the cord is connected to
an outlet.
A slight smell can arise during first usage (minimal smoke devel-
opment is also possible). This is normal and dissipates after a
short time. Provide for sufficient ventilation. For example, open
a window.
Operation
A special defrosting function is not included in this appliance!
Adjusting the browning level
The desired browning level can be adjusted continuously from "light"
(1) to "dark" (6) using the toasting dial .
STC 850 D3

Toasting
When the appliance is in operation, do NOT
cover the toasting slots . Risk risk of fire! The appliance could be
irreparably damaged!

level of browning as with 2 pieces of toast.
1) After setting the desired browning level, insert the bread into
the toaster slots .
2) Press the toasting lever downward. The automatic bread
centering ap pliance centers the inserted bread in the toasting

3) When the desired level of browning has been reached, the
toaster turns off automatically, the slices are ejected and the
control lamp turns off.
Stopping the toasting process

The toaster turns off and the bread slices are ejected.
STC 850 D3 US-EN 13

warmed.

2) Press the "REHEAT" button . The integrated control lamp
lights up.
3) When the bread has been reheated, the appliance turns off
automatically and the slices are ejected.

tion off. The integrated control lamp turns off and the warming
process is continued as a normal toasting process.
Before you can activate another function, you have to first deacti-
vate the currently turned-on function.
Bagel function

on one side.

into the toaster slots . The outer side in the toasting slots will
always be heated.
2) Press the toasting lever downward.

lights up.

Warming up bread rolls
Never place bread rolls directly on the toaster, but rather always use
the bread roll warmer .
1) Fold out both feet of the bread roll warmer .
2) Place the bread roll warmer on the appliance so that the
feet reach into the toasting slots and the bridge between the
toasting slots is placed in the bowing of the feet. The bread
roll warmer is now standing firmly on top of the appliance.
3) Place the bread rolls onto the rack and start the toasting
procedure. To do this, rotate the toasting dial to a maximum
setting of 2 . Note that the browning may vary depending
on the composition and type of bread roll.
After toasting, the rolls will be very hot. There is
risk of burns!
4) As soon as the toaster turns off, flip the rolls over to toast the
other side and then turn the toaster back on.
5) If you no longer need the bread roll warmer , you can store
it to save space:
Wait until the bread roll warmer has cooled off.
Remove it from the appliance and fold up the feet so that
they lie flat.
Crumb tray
During toasting, crumbs that fall from the bread are collected in the
crumb tray .
1) To empty crumbs from the crumb tray , simply pull it out.
2) Tip out the crumbs.
3) Slide the crumb tray back into the toaster until you feel it
click into place.

NEVER immerse the appliance in water or other liquids!
Otherwise, there is risk of electric shock.
