Important Safety Instructions and Precautions
WARNING:DO NOT CONNECT DIRECTLY TO THE PUBLIC SWITCHED
TELEPHONE NETWORK (PSTN). ANY CONNECTION OF THIS
TELEPHONY DEVICE TO AN OFF PREMISE APPLICATION, AN OUT OF
PLANT APPLICATION, ANY OTHER EXPOSED PLANT APPLICATION, OR
TO ANY EQUIPMENT OTHER THAN THE INTENDED APPLICATION MAY
RESULT IN A SAFETY HAZARD, AND/OR DEFECTIVE OPERATION, AND/
OR EQUIPMENT DAMAGE. “EXPOSED PLANT” MEANS WHERE ANY
PORTION OF THE CIRCUIT IS SUBJECT TO ACCIDENTAL CONTACT
WITH ELECTRIC LIGHTING OR POWER CONDUCTORS OPERATING AT
A VOLTAGE EXCEEDING 300 V BETWEEN CONDUCTORS OR IS
SUBJECT TO LIGHTNING STRIKES.
WARNING:THE SOCKET OUTLET, IF USED, SHALL BE LOCATED NEAR
THE EQUIPMENT AND SHALL BE EASILY ACCESSIBLE BY THE USER.
WARNING:ONLY MITEL
®
APPROVED AC POWER ADAPTER (P/N
50005301) SHALL BE USED.
NOTE:
SOME IP TELEPHONY DEVICES DO NOT REQUIRE AN AC POWER
ADAPTER. IF POWER OVER THE LAN IS AVAILABLE, IT SHALL BE COMPLIANT WITH
IEEE 802.3af.
WARNING:THE HANDSET SUPPLIED WITH THE 5560 IPT IS NOT
CERTIFIED FOR USE WITH ANY OTHER TELEPHONY DEVICE. USE OF
THE HANDSET WITH ANY OTHER TELEPHONY DEVICE MAY HAVE THE
POTENTIAL TO CAUSE HEARING LOSS IN THE EVENT OF A LIGHTNING
STRIKE ON THE OUTSIDE PLANT WIRING.
When using your 5560 IPT, basic safety precautions should always be followed
to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock and injury to persons, including the
following:
• Do not use this product near water, for example, near a bath tub, wash
bowl, kitchen sink or laundry tub, in a wet basement or near a swimming
pool.
• Avoid using the 5560 IPT during an electrical storm. There may be a
remote risk of electric shock from lightning.
• Do not use the 5560 IPT to report a gas leak in the vicinity of a leak.
Maintenance and Repair: There are no user serviceable parts inside the 5560
IPT. For repairs, return the 5560 IPT to an authorized Mitel dealer.
These notices may appear on the product or in the technical documentation:
This symbol may appear on the product:
Description
• The Mitel 5560 IPT® is supported by 3300 ICP MXe systems only. A
limited number of 5560 IPTs are supported. Refer to the 3300 ICP
Engineering Guidelines for more information.
• 5560 IPTs are LAN-powered.
Supporting Documentation
To access 5560 IPT- and system-specific documentation:

Installing a 5560 IPT (See Figure )
Before installing your 5560 IPT, ensure that you are familiar with the following
powering options:
• An IEEE 802.3af PoE jack provides power to the 5560 IPT via a LAN
cable. (The 5560 IPT receives Ethernet signals and power through the
same cable.) To install, see Steps
n and o.
• An Ethernet power adapter provides power to the 5560 IPT via a LAN
cable. The Ethernet power adapter is connected to the LAN via a
separate LAN cable connected to a jack. (The 5560 IPT receives Ethernet
signals and power through the same cable.) To install, see Steps
n and
o.
NOTE:
Use only qualified Mitel-supplied Ethernet power adapters.
n Thread the LAN cable plug through the opening in the center back of the
installed base unit, guide it through the channel on the bottom of the base
unit and plug it into the leftmost LAN port (Port 1) on the back of the 5560 IPT
as shown. (Note: the second LAN port is not functional for this release.)
NOTE:
If you are wall-mounting your
5560 IPT
, do not thread the LAN cable through the
base unit slot—connect the cable directly from the LAN port on the
5560 IPT
to
the jack on the wall.
o Plug the other end of the LAN cable into one of the following:
• a LAN-powered jack
or
• the phone port of an Ethernet power adapter. Then, connect the
Ethernet adapter to the LAN using a separate LAN cable, and plug the
power adapter into an AC power outlet.
p Thread the handset cord through the channel on the bottom of the base unit
and up through the opening on the back of the installed base unit. Plug the
handset cord into the handset port.
NOTE:
Headsets can be directly connected to the 5560 IPT using a 6-pin to 4-pin
adapter (not included). Not all headsets are compatible for operation with the
5560 IPT.
Registering a 5560 IPT
To register an installed 5560 IPT in MiNET mode:
•When prompted, enter a valid PIN and then press HOLD.
When registration is complete, you can connect a PC to the PC port on the back
of the 5560 IPT. If desired, thread the PC cable through the slot on the back of
the installed base unit, as shown for the LAN cable in Figure A, step
n above.
Desktop Mounting a 5560 IPT (See Figure )
Turn the 5560 IPT so that the front faces away from you and locate the
adjustment handles on either side of the 5560 IPT stand.
n Push the handles away from you (towards the front of the terminal) to
loosen.
o Tilt the 5560 IPT stand to the desired position and then pull the adjustment
handles toward you (towards the back of the terminal) to tighten them again.
Wall Mounting (See Figure )
NOTE:
Wall mounting requires the use of a 1/8” (3mm) hex key.
n Select a location away from electrical cables, pipes or other items that could
cause a hazard when inserting screws in the wall.
CAUTION: Ensure the wall is capable of supporting the weight of the 5560
IPT. For additional security, it is recommended that you mount the 5560 IPT on
a plywood backboard. Mitel is not responsible for 5560 IPTs damaged as a
result of improper wall mounting.
o Use a hex key to remove the five screws on the top side of the stand. Retain
these screws as you will need them in step 7.
p Remove the bottom plate from the stand.
