Mounting instruction
Hollow-shaft incremental encoders are
measuring instruments produced in
accordance with recognized industrial
regulations.
The installation of the encoder is
to be carried out by trained personnel
with knowledge of electrical engineering
and instrumentation.
An incremental encoder must be used
only for the purpose appropriate to its
design.
Safety advice
Observe the professional
safety and accident
prevention regulations
applicable to your country.
Switch off the voltage to all
the devices/-machines and
plant involved in the
mounting.
Never make electrical
connections to or detach
them from the encoder with
the voltage switched on,
otherwise this may lead to
damage to the equipment.
Avoid striking the shaft or
the collet.
Tool required for the fixing to
the shaft
- Adjusting tool (SICK-STEGMANN)

alternatively
- tubular box spanner 8 mm A/F
and hexagon socket key 4 mm A/F
Preparing for installation
Remove threaded blanking plug (6).
Insert collet (1) into encoder and screw in
screw (3) so that the collet is located but not
closed.
Mount O-ring (9) on flange.
Installation
With the collet open, push the encoder onto
the blocked shaft (7) until the flange is in
contact.
Fasten encoder via servoclamp (8).
Ensure correct seating of the O-ring (9).
Place adjusting tool on expanding shaft.
If the zero pulse is to be adjusted, this may
be carried out by rotation at the lever (4) or
at the hexagon (2).
Hold the lever (4) firmly in the desired positi-
on and, using the lever (5),
tighten the collet via the screw (3).
Recommended tightening torque: 2.2 Nm.
Remove adjusting tool and screw in 9 mm
threaded blanking plug (6).
Make electrical connections with the voltage
switched off.

Carefully open the band (8).
Screw screw (10) into profiled band (8) and
tighten.
Recommended tightening torque 2 Nm.

Place adjusting tool on expanding shaft.
