OPERATING

INSTRUCTIONS

HANDLE LOCKING

SPARK PLUG LEAD

The double-fold handle is locked into position on the

baseplate by

two

spring-loaded latches.

At

the centre

fold, the joint

is

locked by a lever which incorporates a

cam where it

is

adjustable

to

high, mid or

low

position

to

suit the operator. The single-fold handle

is

locked in posi-

tion by

two

hand-operated knobs.

It

is

not adjustable

for

height.

CUTIING

HEIGHT

ADJUSTMENT

To select high position, pull lever out slightly and then

move forward

to

raise; or backward

to

lower the

mower

as

desired. Release the lever

for

positive engagement.

Remove the

nut

from

the spark plug and slip the

brass terminal on the high tension lead

onto

the spark

plug. Replace the

nut

and then

fit

the rubber in-

sulator snugly over the spark plug.

FUEL

Ensure

that

the fuel tank is filled

with

the correct

fuel. See fuel specification, Page 2.

Turn the fuel tap anti-clockwise

to

the

"ON"

position

where a distinct click will

be

felt and the lever

will

point downwards and slightly past vertical. Pause

IDLE

TO REMOVE GRASSCATCHER

Lift

the rear flap

with

right hand sufficiently

to

allow the

catcher

to

be lifted backward clear

of

attachment brackets

and mower,

at

the same time releasing rear flap handle and

allowing rear flap

to

fall

to

closed position.

This indicator shows when the catcher needs

The carburettor

on

this

mower

is fitted

an idle control

screw as

in the diagram.

At

the

factory, this screw

is

in the maximum idle speed

position.

As

the engine

of

your

mower

runs in

it

will gain

speed

at

the

"SLOW"

position

of

the

throttle

control.

To

slow the idle speed

to

an acceptable level, screw this idle

screw in an anti-clockwise direction as indicated by

the

ar-

moulded

into

it.

IECTOR CHUTE (Optional

Extra)-

STOP ENGINE TO FIT

The grass ejector chute,

which

is

an optional extra, should

be purchased

if

you use the mower

without

a catcher

at

any

t:me. It

is

fitted over the rear aperture

by

raising

the

rear

flap to the horizontal position. See Fig. 1. The chute

is

then

inserted under

the

flap

so

that

the hooks illustrated in Fig. 1

pass

through the slots shown in Fig. 2

to

engage

the

rear

flap spindle. The

weight

of

the flap holds

the

ejector chute

in position.

With

the ejector chute on the mower, the discharge

from

the

rear chute is deflected

to

the

left

of

the

operator.

The

mower

may then be used on a high

cutting

height setting

to

mow

long

or

heavy

growth

where the use

of

the

grasscat-

cher

is

undesirable. Alternatively.

when

growth

conditions

are

light

and

it

is

desired

to

spread

the

cuttings

over

the

lawn

as

a mulch,

the

ejector chute should be used.

attempting

clean

mower,

fit

new

blades, or carry

out

any

maintenance

or repairs.

THROTTLE CABLE

ADJUSTMENT

If

at any time the ignition

cut

out

does

not

stop

the

engine when the

throttle

control lever is moved

into

the

STOP position, the

throttle

cable

must

be adjusted.

The procedure

to

adopt

is

as

follows:-

Move the

throttle

control lever

to

the

top

end

of

its

slot, past STOP, and then slacken

off

the adjusting

screw. See Fig.

1.

While

holding light pressure against

the

throttle

con-

trol lever,

force

the screw

downwards

until

the

lever

is pulled approximately

1/10"

from

the

end

of

the

slot.

Secure

the

adjusting screw

at

this

position. See Fig. 2.

Start the engine and check

that

ignition

cut

out

occurs

after

the

throttle

control

lever has passed

the

COLD

START

position

but

before

it

reaches

the

upper

end

of

the slot. Re-adjust as necessary.

CAUTION:

replace the pair

engine balance.

It

is

not

necessary

to

remove

the

bladeholder.

NOTE: For a blade

to

be correctly

fitted,

the

blade

itself

must

be

tight

and

yet

if

pressure is applied

the blade

must

be able

to

move.

MAINTENANCE

AIR FILTERS

Prise the cap

off

the air filter body, remove the filter ele-

ment and clean

it

by slapping

on

the palm

of

your

hand.

Do

not

use compressed air

for

cleaning nor wash

the

ele-

ment in any liquid. Examine the element

for

cuts, tears

or

splits and replace

it if

damaged in any way.

Remove the upper snorkel adaptor from the lower end

of

the air filter body and examine the interior

of

the snorkel

for signs

of

dust.

If

any

dust

is

detected inside the

snorkel, then the filter element

MUST

BE

REPLACED.

Use

replacement element part number AF07276A.

CLEANING

U/SIDE

OF

MOWER

Stop engine and turn fuel tap

"Off".

Disconnect spark

plug lead and wedge the terminal between cylinder head

fins. Ensure throttle control

is

set in

"Stop"

position

to

eliminate fire risk, before attempting

to

clean mower. The

underside

of

your

mower

should be cleaned

to

remove

clogged dirt

or

grass

which

if

allowed

to

build

up

will af-

fect

the

grasscatching performance. It should always be

cleaned immediately after

mowing,

especially

if

an area

has just been dressed

with

sulphate

of

ammonia

or

fer-

tiliser,

to

prevent baseplate corrosion.

A hose may

be

used on

the

underside

of

your

mower

only and special care

must

be taken NOT

to

get

water

in-

to

the engine area

of

your mower,

as

damage may be

done to

the

magneto,

or

water

could get

into

the fuel

system.

If

it

is cleaned regularly

the

baseplate remains

easy

to

clean, because

the

dirt and grass does

not

get

a

chance

to

clog.

NOTE:

When

mowing

in

dusty

conditions ensure

the area

is

lightly watered beforehand

to

eliminate dust.

TROUBLE

the
