Three giant LEGO
®
dinosaurs greet
visitors when they climb the stairs to
the Experience Zones of LEGO House.
Positioned in a white gallery – The
Masterpiece Gallery – the three
iconic dinosaurs are the stunning
centrepieces of the room. When
deciding which models to have here,
many options were considered –
however, one important thinking was
that the model should celebrate the
three diî‚Ÿerent building systems within
the LEGO
®
portfolio. And the result
speaks for itself: The red dinosaur is
made of LEGO DUPLO
®
bricks, the
green one is made of LEGO System
bricks while the yellow one consists of
LEGO Technic elements.
All three models were developed in
close collaboration with a selected
group of LEGO fans several years
before the Grand Opening of LEGO
House in September 2017. The group
came up with art directions for the LEGO
designers to work further with. On the
DUPLO model, the fans suggested
to create life on the animal to make
it playful and colourful. They also
suggested the use of digger buckets
for claws and turtle elements for eyes.
On the Technic model, the suggestion
from the fans was to go for a modular
approach, where the panels are
repeated, and they also designed the
actual claws and teeth for the model.
The green LEGO System model is
the one that has the most naturalistic
build. Here the fans suggested to
use roof and slope elements to get
a naturalistic skin via SNOT building
(studs not on top).
Afterwards, the models were built by
hand at the modelling shop in Kladno
in the Czech Republic by professional
LEGO builders and î‚¿nally carefully
installed inside the Masterpiece
Gallery before closing the oor of the
room.
The Masterpiece Gallery is a
celebration of the human imagination
and the audacity of creation. It is a
gallery dedicated to the LEGO builders
of the world, featuring original works
by multiple talents. In here, LEGO
House pays tribute to great talents that
have chosen the LEGO brick as their
creative medium and spent countless
hours conceptualising, designing,
building and perfecting their artistic
visions.
This is a tribute to all loyal LEGO fans
around the world, and hopefully a great
source of inspiration to everybody.
