Safe Operation Practices for Ride-On Mowers
IMPORTANT: THIS CUTTING MACHINE IS CAPABLE OF AMPUTATING HANDS AND FEET AND THROWING OBJECTS.
FAILURE TO OBSERVE THE FOLLOWING SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH.
I. GENERAL:OPERATION
• Read,understand,andfollowall instructionsinthemanual
andonthemachine beforestarling.
• Only allow responsibleadults,who are familiar with the
instructions,tooperatethe machine.
• Clearthe area ofobjectssuch as rocks,toys,wire, etc.,
which couldbe pickedup andthrownbytheblade.
• Besuretheareaisclearofotherpeoplebeforamowing.Stop
machineifanyone entersthe area.
• Nevercarrypassengers.
• Donotmowinreverseunlessabsolutelynecessary.Always
lookdownandbehindbeforeandwhilebacking.
• Beawareofthe mowerdischargedirectionanddonotpoint
itat anyone. Do not operatethe mowerwithouteitherthe
__ entiregrasscatcheror the guardin place.

• Neverleavea runningmachineunattended.Alwaysturnoff
blades,set parkingbrake, stopengine,and removekeys
beforedismounting.
• Turnoffbladeswhennotmowing.
• Stop enginebeforeremovinggrasscatcheror unclogging
chute.
• Mow onlyindaylightor goodartificiallight.
• Do not operatethe machinewhile underthe influenceof
alcoholor drugs.
• Watchfortrafficwhenoperatingnearorcrossingroadways.
• Useextracare whenloadingor unloadingthemachineinto
a trailerortruck.
II. SLOPE OPERATION
Slopes are a major factor related to loss-of-control and
tipover accidents, which can'result in severe injury or
death. All slopes require extra caution. Ifyou cannot back
up the slope or ifyou feel uneasy on it, do not mow it.
DO:
• Mowup and downslopes,not-across.
• Removeobstaclessuchas rocks,treelimbs,etc.
• Watch for holes, ruts, or bumps. Uneven terraincould
overturnthemachine. Tallgrass canhideobstacles.
• Useslowspeed.Choosea lowgearsothatyouwillnothave
tostoporshittwhileon theslope.
• Follow the manufacturer's recommendationsfor wheel
weightsorcounterweightstoimprovestability.
-_ Use extra care with grasscatchersor otherattachments.

• Keepall movementontheslopesslowandgradual.Donot
makesuddenchangesin speedordirection.
=• Avoidstartingor stoppingon a slope. Iftireslosetraction,
disengagethebladesandproceedslowlystraightdownthe
slope.

Donotturnonslopesunlessnecessary,andthen,tumslowly
and graduallydoV_12_ill,ifpossible.
• Do notmowneardrop-offs,ditches,orembankments.The
mowercouldsuddenlytumover ifa wheelisoverthe edge
ofa cliffor ditch,orifan edgecaves in.
• Do not mowon wet grass. Reducedtractioncouldcause
sliding.
• Donottrytostabilizethemachinebypuffingyourfootonthe
ground.
• Do notusegrasscatcheronsteepslopes.
III. CHILDREN
Tragic accidentscan occurifthe operator isnotalert tothe
presence of children. Children are often attracted to the
machine and the mowing activity. Never assume that
children will remain where you last saw them.
• Keepchildrenoutofthe mowingareaandunderthewatchful
careofanotherresponses adult.
• Bealertandturnmachineoffifchildrenenterthearea.
• Beforeandwhenbacking,lookbehindand downfor small
children.
• Never carrychildren. They may fall off and be seriously
injuredorintederewithsafe machineoperation.
• Neverallowchildrentooperatethe machine.
• Use extracare when approachingblindcomers,shrubs,
trees,orotherobjectsthatmay obscurevision.
IV. SERVICE
• Useextracareinhandlinggasolineandotherfuels.Theyare
flammableandvaporsareexplosive.
- Useonlyanapprovedcontainer.
Never remove gas cap or add fuel with the engine
running.Alloweng=neto coolbeforerefueling.Do not
smoke.
Neverrefuelthemachineindoors.
Neverstorethemachineor fuel containerinsidewhere
thereisanopenflame,suchas a waterheater.
• Neverruna machineinsidea closedarea.
• Keepnutsandbolts,especiallybladeattachmentbolts,tight
and keepequipmentingoodcondition.
• Never tamper with safety devices. Check their prope
operationregularly.
• Keepmachinefreeofgrass,leaves,orotherdebrisbuild-up.
Cleanoil or fuel spillage. Allow machineto coolbefore
storing.
• Stop and inspectthe equipmentif you strikean object.
Repair,ifnecessary,beforerestarting.
• Nevermakeadjustmentsor repairswiththeenginerunning.
• Grasscatchercomponentsaresubjecttowear,damage,and
deterioration,whichcouldexpose movingparis or allow
objectsto be thrown. Frequentlycheckcomponentsand
replacewithmanufacturer'srecommendedparis,whennec-
essary.
• Mowerbladesaresharpand cancut. Wraptheblade(s)or
weargloves,anduseextracautionwhenservicingthem.
• Checkbrakeoperationfrequently. Adjustand serviceas
required.
