IftheHard‐DriveisbrandnewyoumayneedtoinitializeitfirstinordertocausetheDriveLettertoappear:

1. ClicktheStartbutton,right‐clickon“MyComputer”,andselect“Manage”:

3. Locatethedriveintherightcolumnandright‐clickonthedriveandcli ck“NewSimpleVolume”:

4. Atthefollowingprompt,click“Next”:

7. Clickon“Formatthisvolumewiththefollowingsettings:”Changethe“Filesyst em”to“NTFS”.Changethe

“UniversalSerialBusControllers”section.Alsocheckthatthedriveshowsupunder“Diskdrives”asa“(Hard

drivemodel

number)USBDevice”.ThereshouldbenoerrormessageinyourDeviceManager,suchasabold?

2. YoumayalsoneedtochangetheHDDsettingsfromDynamictoBasic,thenformatNTFS,andgiveitadrive

letter,butyoushouldbackupthe

IfthedrivehasissettoMBR(MasterBootRecord)partition,

thenitwillonlyallowamaximumusableamount

of2TB.Thislimitationca nnotbeovercomeinWindows2000/XP.InWindowsVista&7thereissupportfor

largerHardDriveswhenyouusetheGPTpartitiontype:



Goto“DiskManagement”(Seesteps1‐3),locatethediskinthelist,rightclickthediskandclickon“Convertto

GPTDisk”.Youshouldnowhaveaccesstothefullcapacityofyour>2TBdiskpartition.


